NeoRealm - Staring back into the Future

Chapter 415 - It's Them Again

Jason wasn't certain what happened when the small beaver frogs grew up. Maybe they didn't? It is quite possible that the young monsters needed to escape the control of the bigger monsters before they could grow. After all, if all of the smaller ones are literally just young examples of the bigger ones, there would be a natural disaster when they grew up.

Though this left Jason with only one method of figuring out what was up with the lakes. He simply had to watch the smallest pond for a couple days and see what was up. Not a hard task, but rather a boring one and so he settled down to work on his garden, let Lily play some more, and of course keep an eye on the pond.

So, of course, a certain familiar caravan rolls up next to him. Jason didn't recognize any of the people, but he did remember the wagon from which a young man hops down and glares at him before stiffly pointing at him. Jason looks up from his planter with an eyebrow raise, "Hello?"

The man snorts, "You've caused a good bit of expensive trouble."

Jason slow blinks, "And?" Of course, behind the passive look, Jason's brain is overclocked, trying to think of what the caravan would want with him. Sure, they probably want him to pay them back in some manner, but he really doesn't have anything worth it. His most expensive items right now are likely his manuals, but they're a bit niche.

The man narrows his eyes, "The grass passage is now unavailable for at least a week. Our cargo is time sensitive."

Jason nods, "That does suck. You'll need to figure out a way around it. Though I guess you probably already have a method since what happened to me could have happened to anyone."

The man takes a step back, "Well, yes, it could have happened to anyone, but this time it was you who riled the grass hexchimers up."

Jason shrugs, "Would probably be faster if you had just went straight into going around. Unless this is the detour? I guess it would take you longer to get here than I did because you have to worry about the streams. Some you can ford with the wagon, but others would have threats in them that you would have to avoid."

The man makes a cutting motion with his one hand, "That doesn't matter! You forced us to go out of our way. I demand you in some way make up for it."

Jason raises an eyebrow and with a simple shake of his head answers, "No."

The man snarls, but from behind him an older gentleman steps out who looks like the classic image of a butler. The gentleman steps up behind the man and places his hand on the man's shoulder.

He shakes his head and focuses back on Jason, "We don't have time for this. Wait a second, what are you doing?"

Jason looks up, Lily in the shoulder harness, and the planter almost ready to be put away. "Packing up."

The man blinks, "Well, stop it! How do you plan to pay us back?"

Jason laughs as he finishes packing away his planter, "Well, since I'm already packed up, I don't have anything to stop."

The butler sighs, "Young master, I suspect we will just have to drop this for now."

The man snorts, "We'll find you later!"

Jason shakes his head, "You don't know me nor where I'm going."

The man laughs, "We'll find you!"

Jason sighs, "Well, good luck with that." And he begins to walk diagonally to the direction that the caravan came from."

The man sputters, "Where are you going?! I'm not finished with you!"

Jason laughs in response as he hops over a stream with a number of monsters chilling along the bottom. "Doesn't matter, I'm finished with you."

From there, the butler manages to coral the man back into the carriage and it begins its journey once more. Though once far enough away, the man laughs as the butler and that man who had been spying on Jason earlier sit off to the side silently. "As if you can escape my eyes! My tracking talisman will be able to keep track of you and only a Qi master would be able to detect it!"

The man pulls out a stone disc that has a pointer attached to the center by a piece of amber which was slowly turning so as to continue to point towards where Jason had disappeared. "We'll see how you plan to escape me! All of my family caravans will know who you are and you will suffer!"

The butler sighs, "You do realize this isn't his fault? That the fact you chose such a risky passage to use is what is truly at fault? You took that risk and it didn't pay off. Your father would frown at your waste of using that talisman on the lad."

The man sneers, "He didn't even offer any sort of respect to me! He deserves to suffer. Now we just have to keep an eye on this tracker and eventually his disrespect will be paid back ten times over!" And he holds up the stone disc. Which promptly has the needle shiver and point directly up.

The man smacks the side of the disc and turns towards the scout, "How did he manage to fly?!"

The scout coughs, "Well, that isn't how the disc would react to someone flying. After all, he would have to be directly over us."

The man's eye twitches, "So what does that mean?"

The scout coughs again, "It means the talisman on him has stopped working."

The man grimaces and speaks through clenched teeth, "Stopped! Working!"

The scout nods, and the man explodes in rage.

Off in the distance, Jason is sitting down in meditation as Energy crackles across his body, mimicking Lily's static fur technique. He laughs as the last of a sickening black smoke trails off into the air. "Did you think I wouldn't suspect something? I might not have been able to remove whatever that was, it was quite a high level effect. However, it hid itself on my skin."
