The Boundless Expanse(An Epic System Apocalypse LitRPG)

Chapter 664

Elvras' metal whip wrapped around the Veilguard's weapon, and the king pulled. As he pulled, arms of water reached up from the ground and grabbed onto his legs. The entire ocean pulled with him. The Veilguard tried to pull its sword back, but for once, its strength was not enough. Elvras wrested the blade from its hands and grabbed it. His flesh and armor started to warp, flesh turning into nightmare as it lost all coherent form. Then Elvras stored the blade in a storage device, removing it from the battlefield.

The sky trembled as the Dreamer Veilguard erupted in apocalyptic rage. Its body turned a brilliant shade of red. It reached out with one hand, claws forming out of nothing. Each claws was about a foot long and so sharp that Sam could viscerally hear the atoms being split along its path with his E Rank senses.

The monster howled in abject fury and launched itself at Elvras. It was so fast that the king had no chance to react. Sam managed, though, and interposed himself between the speeding monster and his ally. His hammer caught the claws, pressing up against the Veilguard's palm. Sam held himself there with a thick bulwark of Dao energy, supplementing it with the power of Earth.

He remained there like Atlas holding up the sky, pushing desperately back against the superior might of his foe. Elvras escaped in time, weaving back around the Veilguard to lash at its back with his urumi. The monster didn't even notice, consumed by rage as it was. It screamed in Sam's face, so loudly that his ears bled. Then, with a single surge of brute strength, it pushed him back, its talons sinking into his chest. His armor was about as good as a tin can before the onslaught. The claws carved through flesh like butter in a single devastating sweep. Blood went flying.

Elvras continued to batter the Veilguard, but to seemingly no avail. The monster simply tanked the hits, not giving them a single moment's notice.

Sam watched in dismay as the circle of ethereal serpents continued to dance around the central portal of the massive eye. He could feel something coming, something so incredibly powerful that it could turn this entire planet to ash with the blink of an eye.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

"My master comes," the Veilguard said. "You will know the true meaning of pain for what you've done. You dare to desecrate one of the holy relics of a god with your filthy hands?"

Sam didn't reply. There wasn't any point. Instead he reached out, surrounding his hand with his Domain. He grabbed onto the Veilguard's wrist. It tried to pull away, discorporating its flesh, but it was unable to do so. Sam blinked, and when his eyes opened, they were filled with crackling flame. A river of Dao energy cascaded down his arm and into the Veilguard, pushing against its incorporeal flesh.

Veins of red and blue spread up its arm, and flecks of its body started to flake off. It snarled, slamming its other hand into Sam's chest. His entire body rippled as enough power to crush a mountain tore through his internals. Had he still been a mortal, that would have been a fatal blow. As it was, it simply hurt. A lot.

Sam bore the pain, continuing to send pulses of his Dao energy into the Veilguard. The monster's arm started to smoke, its form coming apart. Sam pressed harder, drawing upon all of his pain to infuse his attack with pure Vengeance.

The Veilguard eventually wrested its hand free, using not the Dao or elemental energy, but its own strength. "I don't need to kill you now," it said. "Simply keep you occupied until the Dreamer arrives."

Sam didn't answer. Instead he waited for his body to heal, tattered strips of flesh folding back up under the power of his E Rank regeneration.

Blood continued to drip, but the rate decreased. Whereas before it had been like a river, now it was simply a trickle running down the holes in his armor.

The Veilguard turned its head towards Elvras, rage evident on its features. It slapped a palm against the air, and a massive hand appeared next to Elvras. It slammed into him like a missile, deforming his armor and sending him plummeting to earth. When the king reached the sea, he didn't try to return to the battle. Instead, he ran off across the churning waves. It was a smart move on his part. Without the Lost Bone of the Dreamer, the Dreamer Veilguard was effectively neutered.
