The Boundless Expanse(An Epic System Apocalypse LitRPG)

Chapter 644

"Fine. I'm here on behalf of the guards of Atavaraxis. The capital of the Worldsea." A slight smile worked its way onto the woman's alien features, as if she had found one thing to hold over Sam. "I know you're not from this world. Anyone of your power would be quite the public figure. I don't know how you stack up against the Sovereign, but you're certainly more powerful than me."

Sam flicked his eyes over to the side, as a veil of shadow coalesced from thin air, the aura of a powerful E Ranker appearing within it.

"Ah." Sam reached out, and pressed down with his will upon the fabric of reality. With a light whump the growing portal was crushed into the ground. A cry of pain rang out, and a severed finger fell to the ground next to it. "Stalling for reinforcements? They're not going to do you much good."

The alien's lip curled in defiance. "Kill me then. But Elvras will come for you, and I don't think he'll treat you lightly."

Sam groaned. "What the hell is it? The armor? The power? People always treat me like some sort of devil, when I'm anything but."

"Frankly? It's a combination of all of it. The Dao is the main thing, though."

"I see." Sam stared flatly at the other cultivator. "I'll try it a bit differently, then. I'm from another universe, perhaps another Multiverse. I came here to help your world, to save it from the Dreamer."

He received a similar stare. "Because that's so much simpler than what I thought." The alien shook her head. "Goddamn Mondays. Alright. I suppose I need to take you to see the captain. He's not going to be happy about what you did to Androk."

"The Dark cultivator?"

"Yeah. The captain's son."

"Oh."

Sam whistled, his eyes aligned doggedly with a lamp in the corner of the guard captain's office. Captain Alran, a level 225 cultivator, looked at him with a gaze filled with rage. Next to him was his son, whose hand had healed, but his ego had not. The female guard Sam had met, Amari, he'd learned, stood a few feet away, completely silent.

"I suppose," the captain spat, "that I can overlook what you did. My son is none the worse for his experience, and you are here to help. The safety of the Worldsea is more important than bruised egos."

Sam was tempted to say something along the lines of him being the one that should overlook any transgressions, but he buried that part of him. He wasn't Sam Atlas, drudge of Ron's Diner anymore. He was Sam Atlas, Dao Incarnation of Existence. While few would ever know the truth, he could at least act with a modicum of dignity. So he inclined his head in a graceful nod, his hair bobbing slightly. His helmet was still off, which must have infuriated Alran, who could see how little Sam seemed to be threatened by him.

"I see. Well, where can I get started? I have a vague idea of where the cultists are, but no real way to get there. If the Worldsea is as large as it seems, there has to be some sort of transit network."

Alran nodded begrudgingly. "You're right in that. King Elvras spent a pretty penny on setting up some teleportation gates across the major cities. There happens to be one that will get you close to the cultist headquarters. Though they take more power to use the stronger your are. You might be better off making your way there normally."

Sam smiled. "Now we're talking. Can you lead me to it? I want to see my options before doing anything."

"Hold on a moment. You need to meet Elvras first. He's going to want to know who this powerful new arrival to his domain is." A strange look flashed across his face. "You're going to have to convince him to help. He can be… hard to work with."

At that, a notification appeared, Sam's second quest for the Worldsea.

You have entered Floor 2 of the Worldsea(Challenge Mode)

After learning a bit about the various factions and forces of the Worldsea, you've made your choice. Now, you must speak to Sovereign Elvras, and convince him to support you in this endeavor.
