My College Teacher is My Children's Mom

Chapter 277: Is it My Fault for Being Too Strong?

When they arrived back home, everyone was still packing. The babies had already fallen asleep, with Zhang Yuxi watching over them in one of the cars. They usually napped for over an hour, but today they'd only get about half an hour of sleep. As it turned out, Lin Feng's trip to the supermarket had already taken up that much time. Seeing the babies sleeping peacefully, he wasn't in a hurry anymore.

Zhao Lizhen and Zhang Fuyong took care of packing up the tent and other gear, placing everything in the yard to be loaded up. Meanwhile, Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi went to the kitchen to wash and repack the vegetables. While he was at it, he also cooked the babies' yam porridge and boiled some quail eggs, one of their favorite snacks.

"Honey, could you go get some wet wipes and the babies' little potties?" Lin Feng asked.

"Okay."

All that was left for Lin Feng to do was prepare some fruit.

Once everything was packed, they saw the babies were still sleeping soundly and couldn't bear to wake them. So, Lin Feng gently carried them one by one and buckled them into their safety seats, hoping they'd stay asleep until they reached their destination. He drove one car, and Zhang Yuxi drove the other. Zhang Fuyong drove an older model van, which was loaded with all the camping gear. With Zhang Fuyong leading the way, Zhang Yuxi and Lin Feng followed closely behind. The whole family set off for their grand camping trip.

The weather, which had been pleasant at noon, had turned sunny and hot by one or two in the afternoon. It was perfect weather for camping.

After a half-hour drive, they arrived at the riverside campsite. The site required a security deposit that would be refunded upon departure. However, if campers were found to have polluted the environment or failed to clean up their trash, they would be fined heavily.

Upon reaching the designated area, they found a flat, sunny spot and began to set up camp.

The babies seemed to sense they had arrived and started to fuss.

Zhang Yuxi laughed. "What perfect timing to wake up."

The fourth baby asked groggily, "Mommy, are we here?"

"Yes, we are! Look, the river is right over there!"

It was actually just a meandering stream, only about a meter wide by the looks of it. No one knew how deep it was.

The fourth baby jolted wide awake and yelled excitedly, "We're here! We're here!"

His shout woke up the second baby next to him.

"We've arrived!"

"Yay, we can play now!" the second baby chirped, already scrambling to get out of the car.

The eldest and third babies were in the other car with Zhang Yuxi.

"Darlings, wake up, we're here!"

The eldest baby woke up and gave Zhang Yuxi a sweet smile. "Mommy, I love you!"

Zhang Yuxi's heart melted. "Mommy loves you too!" Hearing the noise outside, the eldest baby put on their coat and scrambled out to play.

The third baby let out a lazy yawn.

"Third baby, wake up," Zhang Yuxi coaxed. "Should we go see if there are any butterflies? We can try to catch them, okay?"

At the mention of butterflies, the third baby was instantly wide awake.

After getting the children settled, Zhang Yuxi, An Lan, and Zhao Lizhen were put on babysitting duty. The reasoning was that the three of them didn't know how to do the heavy lifting and would only get in the way. Setting up the tents, moving the equipment, and so on fell to Lin Feng, Zhang Fuyong, and An Lan's father. An Lan's mother began sorting the food.

"First, let's go catch butterflies! Let's see if we can find any!"

"Don't be discouraged if there aren't any. There might be other little insects!"

Zhang Yuxi handed out small nets to the babies, then called out to Lin Feng, "Honey, An Lan and I are taking the kids to look around for butterflies."

"No problem," Lin Feng replied. "But be careful and don't go too far."

"Don't worry, honey, we won't go far!" Zhang Yuxi answered as she led the children away. "Come on, everyone! Let's go with Godmother to catch butterflies and look for little insects, okay?"

The babies cheered in unison, "Okay!"

They were already bursting with anticipation. With Zhang Yuxi leading from the front and An Lan bringing up the rear, they set off in search of butterflies. In the south, you could still find butterflies even in the autumn and winter. After a bit of searching, they spotted the fluttering shape of a small butterfly.

The babies gasped in excitement.

"Mommy, look! A butterfly! It's white! So pretty!"

"I want to catch it!"

Zhang Yuxi quickly signaled for the babies to be quiet. "Shhh, you have to be quiet. If you shout like that, you'll scare the little butterfly away. If it flies off, we won't be able to catch it."

An Lan nodded in agreement. "That's right. We have to wait for it to land, then sneak up on it very gently. That's how we'll have a chance to catch it, understand?"

The babies all put a finger to their lips, making a shushing gesture. They were so adorable you just wanted to pinch their chubby cheeks.

There were only two butterflies, but that was more than enough to keep them entertained.

After Lin Feng finished setting up the tents, he looked over and smiled at the sight of the children playing happily. Zhang Yuxi and An Lan were acting like big kids themselves, completely caught up in the fun.

"Mommy, the butterfly flew away! It flew away!"

"Quick, catch it!"

"Godmother, you're so clumsy! Jump for it!"

"Aw, so close! I almost had it!"

The babies and the two women playfully chased the butterflies. Eventually, the butterflies flew too far away.

Zhang Yuxi caught her breath. "Alright, don't chase them anymore. We'll wait for them to come back and try again later."

An Lan put her hands on her hips, panting, "I'm exhausted!"

The babies, however, were still full of energy, their faces full of disappointment as they watched the butterflies disappear.

"Come on," Zhang Yuxi said. "Let's go find your dad and see if he has any snacks. We can get some water while we're at it!" I'm dying of thirst!

When she got back to the campsite, Lin Feng had finished with the tents and was now helping with the food and lighting the charcoal grill.

"Don't bring the babies over here, there's a fire," Lin Feng said quickly. "There's fruit on the picnic mat. Go have some of that."

An Lan's mother was setting up the dining table. After taking a sip of water, An Lan went over to help. Lin Feng and An Lan's mother had already set up the large canopy. The table and chairs were all foldable and convenient, but they still required some effort to assemble. An Lan was quite strong, and as she easily unfolded a heavy table, her mother glanced at her and sighed.

"You're so strong. How are you ever going to find a boyfriend?"

What?! Was it my fault for being strong? Is being strong a crime? An Lan was speechless.

Zhang Yuxi, who overheard from nearby, couldn't help but laugh.

An Lan didn't dare get any closer to her mother, so she walked over to Zhang Yuxi to eat some fruit and calm her nerves.

"What's going on with your mom?" Zhang Yuxi asked while washing the babies' hands.

An Lan pouted. "It's because of that blind date she set up for me. I wasn't happy with the guy, and ever since then, she's been finding fault in everything I do. Whatever I do is wrong. I bet even the way I breathe is wrong!"

"Auntie is just worried about you," Zhang Yuxi said softly.

"I know," An Lan mumbled, "but you can't force feelings. You have to actually like each other! Without feelings as the foundation of a marriage, how could it possibly withstand any major storms?" After a pause, she glared at Zhang Yuxi. "And it's all your fault! My mom is so envious of Auntie Zhao now! She's obsessed, you know? If it's a man with a pulse, she wants me to go on a date with him!"

Zhang Yuxi was taken aback. "What does this have to do with me?"

An Lan snorted. "Before, when my dates didn't work out, my mom thought the problem was with the men. But now, she thinks *I'm* the one with the problem!" It's enough to make me tear my hair out!

Zhang Yuxi sighed. "I can't help you with that. The most I can do is ask my mom to talk to her. After all, if you actually wanted to date, you'd have countless guys chasing you. With so many options, you have to choose carefully, right?"

An Lan sighed as she ate a strawberry. "It's a good thing I don't live in Modu. In a little while, I'll go back to Yangcheng, and then I'll have some peace and quiet."

After all, who doesn't want a sweet romance? But she just didn't have feelings for that guy; she couldn't bring herself to like him. So how could she possibly marry him?
