Chapter 497: Murphy’s Battle
Chen Zhao watched as the herd of underlings hurriedly cleaned the blood and corpses on the ground. Holding his phone, he answered calmly, “Nope.”
Before they even hung up, he already saw a row of headlights in the distance.
Chen Zhao glanced at the unfinished clean-up and frowned.
The underlings had just washed the ground, so it was completely wet.
There were still some blood stains around, but they were not obvious.
The air was filled with a faint odor of blood.
“Go back,” Chen Zhao said, waving his hand.
The underlings left at once. The place became much more empty.
Just then, a fleet of cars stopped before Chen Zhao. Mother ran down from one of them.
“Chen Zhao, are you fine? Where’s Yura?”
“Yes. She’s playing with her friend in her room,” Chen Zhao answered.
Mother glanced at the wet ground. “Why is the ground all wet?”
“I was cleaning the place.”
“At night?” Mother asked, stunned.
“I was free anyway,” Chen Zhao said casually.
Many people alighted from the cars. They looked like mercenaries too.
A bearded mercenary in camo wear rubbed his nose, strolled around and looked at the lake.
“Such a strong smell of gunpowder. I think I smell blood,” he said. “Many people died here, right?”
“I was having a party just now. I had some fireworks and I killed a few cows,” Chen Zhao said.
Mother also looked suspicious. She did not believe that nothing had happened.
“Then what’s with the four overturned boats in the lake?” Mother questioned.
“My friends were too drunk. They sailed the speedboats in their madness and were overturned by a rock.”
To be honest, both Mother and the mercenaries smelled something fishy.
It seemed like something had happened here. There was no obvious sign of battle.
But there were still traces of battle. The west wind from the lake brought the faint smell of saltpeter and blood.
There had probably been a battle not long ago.
But why could they not discover anything?
The only way for Chen Zhao to finish the clean-up in such a short time was to have an enormous team behind him.
Mother thought that Chen Zhao might be a mercenary too.
Or maybe even the leader.
In that case, everything would make sense.
Back then in Yura’s house, Chen Zhao had killed so many mercenaries by himself.
Today, he made dozens disappear in an extremely short period of time.
Furthermore, Mother believed an illegal doctor would not earn so much money.
It was therefore obvious that Chen Zhao had a mercenary team behind him.
She did not know where the team was hiding. After the battle, they must have immediately cleaned the battlefield.
Mother did not plan to dig deeper. After all, although Chen Zhao was her son, they were not that close.
Since Chen Zhao was not going to tell her, she would not ask.
Just then, two more cars appeared outside.
In one car was Fali as well as Faur.
The other car was following them from afar. Gaia was in it.
When Fali alighted, she saw the crowd before the mansion. “Chen, what happened?”
“Fali, come here. This is my mother.”
“Mother, this is Fali, my girlfriend.”
“Hello, Madam.”
“Hi.”
Fali had heard from Faur that Chen Zhao had asked Faur to fetch Fali to her house.
Fali knew that Chen Zhao would not have done this unless something special was happening.
Worried, she returned in the middle of the night.
She did not expect to see Chen Zhao’s mother here.
Anyway, they seemed to have a strange relationship.
Fali thought as she looked at the two.
Suddenly, Fali had an idea. Did Chen Zhao not want her to see his mother because their relationship was really bad?
Sometimes, women really tend to overthink.
“Let me go and call Yura.”
“No need. Let her rest,” Mother said. “I’ll come again next time.”
Mother turned to look at Fali. “Fali, it’s very nice to meet you. See you.”
“See you.” Fali hugged with Mother.
Then, Mother returned to her car and the fleet left.
Chen Zhao widened his eyes at Faur, who looked away.
Just then, Gaia’s car also stopped before them.
“Hey, Chen.” Gaia and Chen Zhao exchanged looks.
“Gaia, how come you’re here? Let me introduce to you: Fali, my girlfriend. This is her sister Faur.” Chen Zhao held Fali in enthusiasm. “Fali, didn’t you always want to know who beat me up last time? She was here during the party a while ago.”
“Hi, Gaia.”
Fali could clearly feel the change in Chen Zhao’s attitude. Before his mother, Chen Zhao’s behavior was full of distance. He seemed indifferent, as if he was talking to an acquaintance.
But when he saw Gaia, he became casual again, just like how he always was.
“Hello, Gaia, I remember you.”
“Come in and take a seat.”
“Sure.” Gaia did not reject the offer. She scanned around her and glanced at Chen Zhao with the corner of her eye.
She did not expect Chen Zhao to actually settle everything himself.
Moreover, he had done it cleanly, although there were still some traces left.
…
At the moment, Murphy was being chased by Simons Lillest. He was no match for Simons.
His only advantage was speed, but its only use was to help him escape.
“Transform!” Suddenly, Herretia cast a spell.
Immediately, Murphy turned into a bat, but instead of flying, he fell on the ground.
Simons Lillest stamped at Murphy.
Just when Murphy was about to be crushed, countless vines suddenly swept toward Simons Lillest.
Simons was bound by the vines at once.
“Elf of fire, burn the enemy before me.” Herretia cast Scorch on Simons, which incinerated the vines on him.
Simons easily broke free from the vines, but Murphy also gained precious time. In the blink of an eye, he returned to human form.
However, by then, Simons Lillest’s bloody sword was swinging towards him.
“I’m done for…”
Suddenly, a shadow enveloped them. Simons Lillest stopped his attack momentarily.
Herretia also lifted her head.
An enormous tree had appeared before them.
What? Why is there such a huge tree here?
