Ghost Compendium

Chapter 125: Time Difference Tower

"Alright, coming right up!"

After pondering for a moment, Wu Liang still flashed a cheerful smile and waved to the dorm manager, folded the newspaper, tucked it into his pocket, and walked inside.

Anyway, he needed to go inside and find the Fierce Ghost to extract its information with the Ghost Compendium.

Let's first check out the situation inside the building!

"Come on, register here, write down your name and major." The aunt's voice had an inexplicable warmth to it.

But upon getting closer, Wu Liang realized it was not the dorm manager aunt who waved and greeted him warmly from the management room.

What caught his eye was something akin to a giant Slime—a mountain of flesh about over two meters high, constantly wriggling its various heads and limbs of different lengths.

It looked nauseating.

The dorm manager aunt was just one of those heads.

There were also a couple of limbs near the heads holding smartphones, chatting, but the voices were too low to make out anything.

"Uh, could you tell me what majors are here? I want to check if I went to the wrong building." Wu Liang showed no sign of fear.

After all, this thing might look disgusting and grotesque, but in front of him, it was just a pile of talking meat, nothing he couldn't handle!

"Oh, dear, this building houses people from the Media College and Medical College, student you are…"

"Wu Ming, Media College, Journalism Department."

Wu Liang followed along, never expecting that he would return to being a journalism student after graduation.

As he finished speaking, the fleshy mass in the management room began rummaging through drawers with countless hands and feet.

Finally, a slender, fair hand akin to that of a rich lady found a key and slowly passed it to Wu Liang.

The head of the aunt enthusiastically said, "Up you go, journalism students live on the fourth floor."

Wu Liang raised an eyebrow, took the key, turned around, and left to go upstairs, weighing the heavy, antique key in his hand.

Why call it an antique?

It's because this was not a common anti-theft door key, not even a padlock key!

But rather a key resembling old-style bronze keys, long like a chopstick, with irregular protrusions on its head, labeled with a tag that read "404".

"Interesting, a '70s and '80s style faculty dorm, filled with ancient creations and modern products, what exactly is this place?"

The appearance of items from different eras together overwhelmed him with a sense of discord, leaving him bewildered.

Outwardly calm, Wu Liang was full of vigilance as he walked upstairs—

The first floor, the hallway and staircase were exposed red bricks typical of the '60s and '70s, with many room windows covered with newspaper.

The second floor, with anti-theft doors, tiled floors, and voice-controlled lights, resembled modern university dormitories, appearing most normal.

The third floor, like a shell house, had cement floors in dark gray, dilapidated wooden doors adorned with hung clothes, and walls smeared with years of smoke and grease, reminiscent of old alleys from the '70s and '80s.

The fourth floor, each room had double-pane dark red wooden doors, not only carved lion-head knocker but also two-foot-high thresholds!

A pair of white lanterns with "奠" characters hung beside the door, shedding eerie, dim light, casting the hallway in a flickering illumination.

"White lanterns, aren't those for funerals? Hanging them in a dorm might not be appropriate."

Wu Liang shook his head, criticizing, yet fearlessly walked to the door of room 404.

Inserted the key into the bronze lock, turned, pulled open in both directions, pressed on the double-pane doors, and pushed them open!

Creaaaak—

With the harsh sound of friction, the heavy wooden doors slowly opened, a fragrant scent wafted over.

He was stunned.

"Damn! This dorm is mixed-gender? That's not good, right? Which dynasty's noble lady are you from? Isn't this your boudoir?"

Criticizing while he felt a slight pain in his molars.

Because behind the door lay an ancient bedroom, or more accurately a maid's boudoir!

Carved wooden windows, a mahogany bed, vanity dresser, vases, and incense burners, adding a touch of elegance inside.

Most importantly, there was indeed a woman in a dress sitting in front of the vanity, grooming her long hair with a wooden comb facing the gilded mirror.

Upon hearing the commotion behind her, she showed no surprise; instead, she continued combing her hair and said, "Sir, once inside please close the door quickly to avoid being talked about."

Creaaaak—bang!

Wu Liang wasn't timid. Someone invited him into their boudoir, what's there to be reserved for?

His main intention was to observe closely whether she was living or a creation of some Fierce Ghost like the dorm manager downstairs.

"Haha, Miss, are you human or ghost? There are white paper lanterns hanging outside."

Teasingly, Wu Liang's gaze continued to scrutinize the woman's back and her slightly blurred reflection in the bronze mirror.

With clear brows, bright eyes, white teeth, red lips, unaffected by overly perfect modern cosmetics, a natural blush on her vibrant cheeks, a delicately painted red plum flower forehead mark adding charm.

Even being this close, Wu Liang couldn't discern whether she was a modern person in disguise or genuinely ancient.

"Do not worry, sir, there's something ominous outside, I rely on the white paper lantern to escape harm, confined here day after day. Today, I encountered someone who can converse, hoping you would stay for a while, not seek untimely end again."

The woman finished her hair, styled it delicately.

In an instant, Wu Liang caught the key points in her words—

"What do 'encounter again' and 'seek untimely end again' mean? Have you met others before?"

From her words, she not only knew there were ghosts in this tower, but also believed hanging those white paper lanterns at the door could prevent ghostly entry.

"Indeed, I've been trapped here for half a year, meeting dozens, but without exception, they were harmed by ominous forces upon exiting, I beg you, sir, not to leave hastily."

Saying so, she moved to the bed, turned sideways, letting the silk slip off her shoulder inadvertently, and patted the soft bed alluringly:

"Spending the rest of your life here with this lady is also a blessing, is it not wonderful?"

As she finished, Wu Liang found himself moving towards the bed involuntarily.

Seeing this, the woman's mouth curled into a subtle, knowing smile, even licking her lips ambiguously, seemingly used to this.

Unexpectedly, Wu Liang only took two steps, suddenly squatting and pondering beneath the bed:

"Can't you hide the bodies better after the murders? It's almost full under there, isn't it?"

In his view, beneath the exquisite mahogany bed were white cadavers piled up, so many bones nearly rolling out!

Seek untimely end?

If someone agreed to stay, they surely sought their own doom!
