Anyone who knew Aegon could easily guess his response, but apparently, people expected something different here in the Academy.
"No, you can keep that troublesome position," Aegon replied flatly. "And no, provocation won't work. I really don't care if you think you're above me and all. Do whatever you want."
"I wasn't planning to provoke," Rosaline said, mischief dancing in her eyes. "After all, I plan to be above you in bed."
Aegon coughed violently, choking on his own saliva after hearing that. It came completely out of nowhere, catching him totally off guard.
Even the others weren't faring any better as some even stumbled while trying to stand straight. Did they hear that right? What was this arrogant woman thinking? And how did it make any sense?
Even Amon was busy suppressing his laughter. The old man looked like a teenager who was thoroughly enjoying the drama happening before him.
Aegon stared at the strange woman before him, too dumbfounded to even speak. This was one of the very few times someone had managed to break his composure, so naturally, he was stunned.
"What? Why are you so surprised?" Rosaline chuckled, her long eyebrows fluttering beautifully. "I want to defeat you, and if I can't do it in this battle, I don't mind doing it another way."
Aegon exhaled a pent-up breath and pulled out a pair of cufflinks seemingly out of nowhere. "I'm fifteen, for your information. Want to take a tour of jail?"
"It's only a year's difference, and I don't mean we move to that step right now. We can just get engaged first and you know that's allowed," Rosaline spoke quietly. "I may not look like it, but when I do something, I do it with all my heart. So, if I want to defeat you in bed, I'll court you properly."
"Do I look like some frail noble lady you'll be courting?" Aegon's lips twitched at her words. "Also, no. I don't care. Why are you even doing this?"
He had experience dealing with straightforward women, but Rosaline came on far too strong even for him. The problem wasn't just her boldness, it was the fact that he could see she meant every word she said, even though her eyes shimmered with mischief.
But of course, he wasn't going to back down so easily.
Rosaline grinned, stepping closer until she stood just a breath away. "Quite simple. I want to make you mine before the other one does."
"The other one?" Aegon blinked, even more confused.
"Yes. She's a dumbo, but she can be pretty annoying too. It'll be difficult for me once she realizes her feelings," Rosaline whispered. "You're just as interesting as I remember, Aegon. So, I will make you mine."
'What the fuck is she talking about?' Aegon's confusion grew, especially since her tone and even her eyes told him she was speaking the truth.
Even his eyes were saying she spoke truth.
'Remember? I don't remember you at all,' Aegon thought, staring at her beautiful face that felt both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time.
He searched through his memories and confirmed he was right. He had never met this woman, not even in passing. There was no recollection of her at all, not even among the countless background faces he had seen.
"Who are you?" he asked, genuinely curious.
"Your future wife!" Rosaline grinned brightly in response. "Rosaline. Or you can just call me Rosa. Nice to finally meet you."
Aegon closed his eyes for a second before replying with a faint smile, "You'll have to do much more than this to court me."
Rosaline stayed silent for a moment before bursting into laughter. Even her laughter was beautiful, filled with charm that felt almost intoxicating.
Many who saw it couldn't help but think the same thing.
'If her personality wasn't rotten, I'd have tried my luck.'
Of course, they all knew none of them could compete with the man she desired. Whether it was looks, talent, or background, Aegon surpassed them in every way.
"You're really interesting, Little Gon," Rosaline chuckled softly. "I will conquer you, both in heart and body. And if I can't do that, I'll cripple my Cultivation. That's my Oath"
Her words left everyone stunned. Even Amon couldn't help but glance at her again.
An oath like that, made publicly, was sacred. Breaking it would not only damage her cultivation but also bring shame upon her name everywhere she went. She would be shunned everywhere.
No one could understand why she would go to such lengths, especially when they didn't even seem to know each other.
But Aegon was shocked by something else entirely. His eyes trembled slightly when she called him "Little Gon." There were very few people who knew that nickname and even fewer who actually used it.
How did this woman know it? Was it just a coincidence? He didn't think so.
'She did it intentionally to make me interested in her. She knows I wouldn't even bother with her otherwise. This woman… who is she really?' Aegon's guard went up as his eyes narrowed.
'Hecte, do you remember her?'
[No, Boss. It's the first time I've met her.]
That left him even more puzzled. Only then did he process her next words and nearly choked again.
'This girl. She actually managed to shock me twice,' Aegon inhaled deeply, steadying himself. 'Now I'm really getting interested in you, Rosaline. Who are you, truly?'
He had many questions swirling in his mind, but instead of asking any of them, he said something else entirely. "Why are you going this far?"
"I told you already, didn't I?" Her lips curved upward again. "I give my all in everything I do. If I'm courting you, then I'll do it with my whole being. If I fail, then I have no reason to keep my arrogance or my powers."
"You're fighting a losing battle," Aegon sighed. "You're beautiful, true, but I don't like your personality. You don't love me. So it's impossible for you to succeed."
"Want to bet?" Rosaline grinned.
"You still want to go further?" Aegon was genuinely impressed by her sheer audacity. "Alright then. What are the wagers and rules?"
"If I lose, you can do whatever you want with me. Use me like a mining slave if you wish," Rosaline declared, once again choosing the most extreme option possible. "But if I win, then I'll be the one above you in bed."
Aegon was left speechless once again.
'Just how much arrogance do you have? Why wager so much?'
He couldn't understand her at all.
No, he couldn't even understand how things had taken such a drastic turn so suddenly. Didn't he just come here for an opening ceremony? Why was he suddenly getting a marriage proposal?
