Defying the Fate of Beheading

Chapter 103: The Black Swan Reappears the Emperor's Summon_3

He even sharply noticed a flash of anger on Beatrice's face.

Kneel! Kneel! Kneel!

If it had been someone else he didn't know, Louis would have likely taken a step back, afraid that blood would splatter on him.

He raised his head, contemplating what words to use to make Beatrice less angry.

Then, he heard a faint sigh coming from within the bedchamber:

"But I am already exhausted."

As this voice echoed, the door of the bedchamber slowly opened.

"Your Majesty, this is..."

Marquis York said blankly.

Beside him, the Legendary Iron Guard Rudolph said:

"Let's go, Lady Beatrice, His Highness Louis, and Marquis York, let's all go have an audience."

An unbelievable speculation flashed through Marquis York's mind, and he stumbled forward awkwardly and without grace towards the depths of the bedchamber.

Seeing this, Louis and the others quickened their pace and followed him in.

It wasn't long before Louis saw Marquis York standing there in a daze.

He followed the bewildered gaze of Marquis York, and then involuntarily exclaimed:

"Oh my God!"

What unfolded before his eyes was a scene he could scarcely imagine.

The Emperor's bedchamber was devoid of unnecessary decorations; all he could see was a golden throne adorned with countless legendary weapons.

Sitting upon the throne was an emaciated middle-aged man.

At first glance, Louis thought he was looking at a skeleton.

Upon closer inspection, he noticed that a layer of shriveled skin hung on the exposed ribs.

The supreme power of the Ense Empire seemed to have suffered deep wounds, with large parts of his body so bare that even the skin and flesh covering his ribs were missing, directly exposing his bony frame.

Huge, archaic life-support machines were inserted into various parts of his body, causing an unprecedented sense of pain at first glance.

It was like watching someone slotting a toothpick into their toenail before kicking the wall.

"What in the world is going on here?"

Although Louis had suspected that the Emperor might be incapacitated, he had never imagined that the Emperor's bedchamber would look like this.

Marquis York found it even harder to accept than Louis. He looked like someone possessed by a demon, muttering continuously.

The voice grew more incessant, echoing throughout the vast bedchamber.

"Impossible!"

"Impossible!"

"No one on this continent can wound you like this!"

"The Emperor is invincible in this world!"

The Emperor on the throne let out a light-hearted, pleasant laugh:

"Then I should deservedly accept your praise, but unfortunately the opponent I need to deal with is far more troublesome than most ancient beings on this continent."

Marquis York, both distraught and glaring with anger, lost all decorum and shouted:

"Who?! Who exactly?!"

Beside him, Rudolph calmly said:

"Beneath Tino City lies possibly the largest Gate of the Abyss ever to appear in the history of Star Continent."

"The other side of the Gate of the Abyss is where the four gods of the abyss conduct their abyssal blood battles."

"The four gods have long set their sights here, and there's no opportunity for the Gate of the Abyss to close."

"His Majesty can only embed his supreme domain at the gate of the abyss; for twenty years, the four abyssal gods have never ceased their attacks here."

"Even if the Iron Guard and Dark Crow joined the battle directly, they couldn't relieve the pressure His Majesty endures."

"York, it's not that His Majesty doesn't want to help you, but for him to stand means a cost that results in the empire burning under the onslaught of the four abyssal gods' army."
