He felt a burning kick to his cheek. His mind blanked out for a moment and the next thing he knew he was crashing on the ocean below.
Ved stayed there for a few seconds. He couldn't even see Vermillion move, the difference in speed speed was way too high.
He looked up and his eye met two cruel red orbs. Vermillion's face was cold but beneath the coldness Ved could see the cruel glee.
The more he looked at this man the more familiar he became but he still failed to make a connection with anybody in his memories.
Ved contemplated running away but then remembered this body was merely an avatar, even if it died, he still had three more in reserve.
That made him more confident. He jumped out of the water and lunged at Vermilion. However Vermillion's body flickered and disappeared right before his eyes.
Then he appeared above Ved and dropped an axe kick to his back. Ved felt his scales crack and his spine shattered.
His body shot down like a streak of black light but Vermillion's body disappeared and appeared below him.
Before Ved could react he found himself flying back up again with blood flowing out of his nose and his scales falling into the sea below. Then Vermillion did this multiple times.
Playing with Ved's body like it was a ball. Ved coughed up blood, his scales fell to the sea like rain, along with gallons of his blood that dyed the ocea red.
Multiple bones on his body were broken but within seconds the wounds were already healing.
Vermillion stood in the air watching and waiting. When Ved's body had fully healed, he attacked again but this time he did not take a single step.
He opened his palm and a melon sized ball of fire appeared on it. Then the ball shot to sky, rising up slowly like a firefly.
When it was about to reach the gigantic fiery cloud it stopped. A few moments passed with nothing happening then it exploded.
Flame arrows descended from the sky like rain, covering an area of over 40 kilometres wide.
Ved would not be able to escape their range in time even at his top speed. So he did the only thing he could think of.
Dozens of web fluid balls appeared above him then expanded into giant shield that lined themselves above his body.
In a blink of an eye, they dried up and solidified into huge wax shields. Then the arrow rain arrived.
Clicking sounds echoed above him as the arrows hit the first shield. It did not last long before it was riddled with hundreds of holes and shattered into pieces.
The same thing happened to the second, third and the rest of the shields except the last two, fortunately the rain of arrows ended on the third to last shield.
Ved was about to sigh with relief when his eye met deep red eyes staring directly into his soul.
Vermillion had somehow appeared right infront of his face silently. Ved braced for impact but what reached him instead was a mocking voice.
" Do you think you've hurt me by killing those useless weaklings beast? I'm sorry to disappoint you but you did me a favour.
Now I nolonger have to pay any of them, plus most were criminals I was going to get rid of anyways.
So for that I thank you, now I have a reason to invoke justice upon you, a beast who murdered humans in cold blood, what do you think the rest of humanity will think of you?"
Ved tried to retreat but chains of fire appeared mid air and bound his body. No matter how hard he struggled he couldn't break them.
Vermillion continued with a mocking smile, his voice filled with twisted glee. " Let me tell you what they will think. That you are a dangerous savage beast hungry for blood.
That you need to be eliminated, you and everything you hold dear. They will burn your home, just like I did. And you will fail to save it, again and it will be your fault, again.
Yes that is right, I was there for you, you were the target, not them, yet your friends died in your stead, if only you had been there to save them, none of them would've died, they died because of you, their blood is in your filthy claws."
Ved remembered the scene he saw, where he found his home in flames and his friends wounded and rage boiled inside him.
He roared and shot a nuclear blast at Vermillion who slapped it away. Then Ved opened his mouth and a black poison mist cloud spewed out.
Even Vermillion sensed the danger in this mist and jumped back. But it spread faster than he could retreat.
Flames ignited around his body and kept the poison cloud at bay. Ved clicked his tongue, this is why he hated fire, it was a huge weakness of his poison and web.
Then Ved took a deep breath, his anger didn't subside at all, instead of continuously rose.
' It wasn't your fault Ved, he's trying to get to your head, it wasn't your fault.' he kept telling himself in his head but he couldn't let go of the guilt.
A voice inside him kept whispering, if only you had been there. His shoulders slumped, before he could react he was kicked on the face.
However he didn't even bother trying to react, he kept wondering if he was truly to blame.
Then his blood boiled in rage but not at his enemy. At him, it disdained his whining, because of that, because he abondened his pride and gave up to guilt.
He felt his body and will grow weaker, this was a side effect of having a dragon bloodline.
Giving up your pride and surrendering to your foe in any way meant giving up your strength. Ved sighed and flew out of the sea. His will transmission reached his opponent.
' I have to admit, you were able to get into my head there for a second, but thank you for that. Now I'm really pissed and I suppose it's time I stop holding back.'
He shoved the guilt away, he understood it wasn't his fault but he knew who was to blame he fully intended to make them pay in some way.
' Ignition.' BOOOOM, an overwhelming aura blasted out of his body and the air shook. Red and blue energy danced around him like ribbons.
The red energy was his vital essence burning and the blue energy was his soul essence. His body, which includes his trait as well as his will grew two times stronger.
However that was not the end. Ved summoned a second heart, he contemplated summoning a third but chose against it.
Then he activated ignition on that heart as well, his strength grew to four times the original avatar's strength level.
He opened his eyes and looked at Vermillion, then gently flapped his wings.
