The Smiling Death

Chapter 70: Demonic Human (1)

Domnhar was sitting calmly on the couch. His black hair, with streaks of white, showed his old age. In his hand was a glass filled with red-colored wine.

He took a small sip of it slowly. Then his eyes met the pair of three eyes.

"Why did I do that?" he said and paused, his expression thoughtful. But there was no guilt on his face, just a cold calmness.

He put the wine glass on the wooden table with a tap sound.

"I used them… for my own greed… for power. But it's all in vain now." His gaze turned toward the window. It was a scene of the town from the window.

The group listened to him with wary eyes. Their grip tightened on their weapons.

"I had not expected something like this to happen. All my material was sacrificed for their objectives," Domnhar said. His voice was calm and steady. His gaze fell on the group again.

"What do you mean by material? Who are you really?" Amon asked from behind Selena. His expression was not good.

Domnhar got up on his feet.

"You know… we are all going to die soon. Look, that thing in the town will slowly devour the dead bodies and then attack any remaining life form inside the barrier and kill it."

A sword appeared in his hand. His hair started to change color. It turned dark black. The wrinkles on his face began to vanish. His face structure changed.

He was no longer Domnhar but a man in his late twenties.

Selena narrowed her eyes as she bent a little. Her grip tightened on her sword.

"So you are not going to tell us about this? Who are you?" Selena gazed at the man with cold eyes.

The man remained silent for a while and then replied,

"I am Vikir. Former mercenary and… an orphan from this same orphanage. Let's fight. It's better dying here than by that creature."

He put strength in his right foot and pushed forward. The floor under him cracked like a spider web.

Selena also attacked. Their swords met each other.

Steel against steel. Sparks flew in the air.

Their movements were fast. Amon was going to join the battle,

But he was stopped by Jareth. "Amon, you are still injured and not healed completely. So let me and Selena handle this. Just stay here."

Amon bit his lower lip and nodded. He knew what Jareth was saying was true. His condition was not good. He was still in pain.

Jareth gave him a reassuring nod and lunged into battle.

Jareth joined Selena as they charged forward,

Their swords flashing in the dim light.

Vikir, his eyes gleaming with fierce intensity,

Met them with a swift strike of his own sword.

Selena darted in, her blade slicing toward Vikir's chest.

But Vikir was too quick, and he parried the blow with ease.

He counterattacked, his sword biting deep into the air, mere inches from Selena's face.

Jareth leapt forward, his sword clashing with Vikir's in a shower of sparks.

The two warriors exchanged blows, their movements lightning-fast. As they danced across the room.

Vikir's sword sliced toward Jareth's shield, but Jareth held firm. His arm steady beneath the impact.

Selena took advantage of the opening,

Her sword flashing toward Vikir's exposed flank.

Vikir spun, his sword meeting Selena's in a deadly dance.

The two blades clashed, the sound echoing through the room.

Jareth joined the fray, his sword striking at Vikir's defenses.

The battle raged on, the three warriors clashing in a whirlwind of steel and fury.

Vikir's movements were fluid and precise,

But Jareth and Selena worked together seamlessly,

Their swords weaving a deadly pattern.

Selena struck at Vikir's chest, but he parried the blow.

Jareth took advantage of the opening,

His sword slicing toward Vikir's side.

Vikir twisted, avoiding the blow by mere inches.

The fight continued, each warrior determined to gain the upper hand.

But Vikir's power and skill made him a formidable foe,

And it seemed uncertain who would emerge victorious.

Selena was avoiding using her ability. She had already overused it.

Vikir jumped away from them.

His body started to radiate a dark violet glow. An oppressive aura was leaving his body.

Selena's eyes widened. "Demonic Energy?" she muttered.

Vikir's hair grew a little longer. His skin became darker. Muscles grew. His eyes gleamed dark purple with vertical slits. Small blackened horns protruded from his forehead.

Selena, Jareth, and Amon watched in shock.

"He's a demon," Jareth said.

Selena narrowed her eyes and observed Vikir. "No… he's not a demon… a demonic human. And not a complete one."

Her sword blade started to glow silver.

"So, you wanted to become a complete demonic human. Is that why you used those children?" Selena asked. She recalled the ritual circle in the forest and the dark violet crystal filled with unnatural evil energy demonic energy.

"Hmm, you do know a lot. Well, it's understandable since you are a princess. Hah… my luck sure is bad. To think the one who came for the mission was none other than the princess herself. Tsk…" Vikir said as he clicked his tongue in irritation.

He looked stronger and more dangerous. Three purple magic circles appeared above.

Three big fireballs dashed forward at Jareth and Selena, while the third flew toward Amon, who was standing in the far corner.

BOOM!

The fireballs collided and exploded in empty places as everyone avoided them.

But Vikir was already at Selena and Jareth.

He was faster, more dangerous, and brimming with energy.

Each of his strikes, filled with Demonic Energy, was vile. He parried both Selena's and Jareth's swords precisely.

Yet he was also not able to land a clean hit on either of them.

Jareth coated his shield with solid earth element as he blocked the attacks,

While Selena matched Vikir's speed. Every time his sword tried to cut Jareth, Selena blocked it.

Jareth was still not fast enough to match them.
