Chapter 54: Perfect Name Chosen

"...Ok Eve, I think I've come up with a good name for our group...how about... Twilight Bloodline?" I say to Eve in a clearly tired tone, I've already presented 17 different names, and she's rejected them all, saying they were terrible names for a group of adventurers.

And of course I've heard her opinion, I know she only wants what's best for me and I can maybe really choose certain options that would turn us into a joke in the long run, so her opinion is valuable.

"Oh...Evelyn-sama, that's actually very good...I like how it sounds too, I can't believe this name was only said after 17, I swore you would at least say 50 weird names before one good one," She finally approves a name.

"Seriously? For real? Finally liked a name?" I ask in disbelief, I thought she would reject it again, although aesthetically even I think this name looks pretty cool for a group of adventurers.

"Evelyn-sama, it's better we don't waste any more time on this, the name is good, it's not perfect, but it's acceptable enough, it has a good intonation and I think it fits our group a bit," She finally accepts with a smile, making me let out a relieved sigh.

"That's great, we've been at this for 5 hours and I've already finished our masks," I say with a smile, showing two masks, one of them is an elegant white mask with several small patterns along with two spiral patterns.

The eyes are black with angles that resemble the theater, with half the mask representing tragedy with a sad expression and half representing comedy with a happy expression.

This is my mask, while Eve's mask is a black mask with a pattern of two diamonds where the cheeks would be, while the mask's eyes are white, giving it an almost opposite appearance to mine.

The expression of the mask is completely neutral, not showing happiness or sadness, the two masks are undoubtedly very beautiful and I'm going to wear them along with Eve when we go to the guild.

"Evelyn-sama, why these masks? It's not like we need to hide the fact that we are," Eve speaks unaware of how cool the beautiful masks are, I really liked this style of using masks, it seems fun and elegant.

"I like them! They're beautiful, elegant, and our masks complement each other! They're opposites in everything, but together they form a balance, with mine being expressive and yours being neutral."

"Mine being white representing purity and yours being black representing mystery! Along with the mask details themselves, which are really cool and all!" I say alarmed at Eve's ignorance.

She may be identical to me in appearance, but in the end the personality is quite different, this rigidity of hers with things like this is even kind of cute.

These masks are special! I don't want our group to just be a random group of adventurers, I want our group to stand out in a unique way, to the point that everyone who sees the mask will know who we are!

"Well...if you like it, I like it too, and you're right, the masks are very beautiful, I can't believe you made them with just the leftover materials we had here, your talent always amazes me," She praises me, making me blush.

"O-Of course, I'm absurdly talented, if I wasn't trying to fight for the throne, I could probably survive just being a craftsman or something like that!" I boast about this talent that isn't really mine, the original Evelyn was good at this and I just inherited it after merging with her.

'Well, it doesn't matter...' I hand the mask to Eve while I take mine and put it on to see how it looks, it fits perfectly and I already have the perfect dress to wear with this mask.

"What do you think? Really cool, right? And this really good fit I made, with it the mask seems to be floating in the air while hidden by my hair, so no one would notice anything and the mask would seem to be fixed by magic!" I say excitedly.

"Truly...it's very well-made, will you do this for everyone in the group? You seemed extremely focused on them, even more than on the name of our group," She asks, and I shake my head.

"No, they're just for the two of us, the other puppets can show their faces! Anyway, I think it's much cooler to keep the exclusivity, we're the founders of this group and I want to maintain this special mark," I say with a heart-warming smile.

"Now, Eve, let's choose the dress! I'll wear one of the new ones I bought...unfortunately we can't take much clothing because I don't have any storage relics."

"So we'll only take the few coins we have and a few dresses," I say, quickly going to the closet where I see Marcus and Corvis, the two puppets of the original Evelyn.

'I can't take them with me...it's risky...they might break or I might lose them and they could also be stolen...' My heart aches, the feeling of having to abandon these two little puppets here bothers me a lot, but it's necessary.

Taking them with me is a burden I can't carry, not only because taking them with me would be difficult, but also because I need space to take dresses and clothes, probably me and Eve will live in cheap inns until we have money for a good inn.

"Evelyn-sama, I have a question, how do the competitions the Demon King holds work? You can't participate..."

"Don't worry, my father won't mind, it happens that these competitions are just a way to test each of us and also a way to keep us sharp."

"However, if I'm out adventuring and living on my own with what I have while increasing my power, my father will end up just ignoring me, because for him this attempt to strengthen myself alone is pleasant."

"So for him, the fact that I'm hunting monsters will already be a good test and challenge, this also means that he will keep an eye on my achievements, of course if something important happens he will still call me, but he will probably take a while before we are called back," I say as I grab some dresses from the closet.

"Because we are still in the first year of the competition, so we are all 'weak' by his standards, and he wants us to be strong, so now is the best time to try being an adventurer."

"Because from the second to the third year of the competition, trying this will become difficult, because...complicated things will happen in the future," I just say 'complicated things' to not say how serious some things will be in the future.

"That's why we should strengthen ourselves as much as possible while we can, and even better, being an adventurer will make the others ignore me, so it will be harder for an assassin to show up out of nowhere to kill me," I say with conviction.

"It seems great that we won't have any problems, Evelyn-sama, if you already know all of this, I believe I can trust that you will be safe against the others," Eve says, coming to help me.

"Yeah, yeah, I know things. Now let's get ready, I'll wear this dress here," I say, grabbing a black dress with white ruffles and white sleeves with a soft white interior, very elegant.

The dress is beautiful, but also light and practical, being perfect to match the mask, I fit it over my body, seeing how it will look on me before throwing it on the bed.

"Eve, do you think we can get the S Rank in a year? That would be really cool..." Unfortunately, being an adventurer will create a problem that I don't want to mention to Eve or it might make her tense.

"Maybe..."

And that problem is that I won't make any connections with nobles, in the castle I can try to participate in parties, meetings and conversations with other nobles while as an adventurer this is impossible.

Probably the other candidates for the throne, in addition to strengthening themselves, will try to obtain connections with various nobles to increase their power as much as possible.

Of course, considering my current reputation, it would be almost impossible for me to get support from any noble, but having their support is very useful because when a noble helps, they can give things.

Whether it's money, relics, or even ceding small territories, this is so that when the chosen person becomes king, they will help these nobles, so it's basically an investment in the future.

An influential, rich and powerful noble can help a candidate for the throne, aiming to receive recognition, influence and more power in the future, and so far I am an investment that most must seem terrible.

'What a curse!! I'm so unlucky, I had to have this huge bad luck to not even be able to get a single noble to help me!!' Maybe if I could show that I have a future, it might be possible.

But for now there's no way to show that, of course, being an adventurer if I achieve great feats, it will show that to them and maybe someone will decide to help me.

"Here, Eve, we don't have a suitcase, so stuff these clothes in a bag and let's go! I'll just grab the money and tell Clarissa that she should take care of my room until we come back."

"Ah yes, I also need to tell my father, I can't leave for so long without warning him in advance, I don't want him to come scold me or anything like that," I murmur, watching Eve putting my dresses in the bag.

Meanwhile, I grab the black and white dress I chose to go wear it so we can leave together.
