Divine Doctor from the Start of the Eye Mutation

Chapter 374 Resting with Eyes Closed

Ling Zhenfei sat in the car with his eyes closed, meditating, and soon arrived at the gate of a villa. Although the villa wasn't situated in an exceptional location, its scale and luxury far surpassed that of the Zheng Family by several streets.

When the car stopped, someone came to open the door for him. As Ling Zhenfei stepped out, he saw a man in his forties standing at the doorway. The man had a lean figure but stood ramrod straight. He didn't look menacing but carried an air of authority that struck one as being very dignified, clearly not an ordinary person.

As Ling Zhenfei got out of the car, the man came forward to greet him, walking with a poised and dignified bearing. Although he had done nothing particularly remarkable, Ling Zhenfei felt there was something extraordinary about him.

"Hello, Divine Doctor Mr. Ling, I trust my welcome is not too presumptuous?"

The man reached out a hand to Ling Zhenfei, who hurriedly shook it. Faced with a stranger, Ling Zhenfei indeed didn't know what to say.

"Hello Mr. Ling Zhenfei, my name is Su Wanlong, and it was I who contacted you to come and treat the illness."

Perhaps noticing the confusion on Ling Zhenfei's face, the man quickly explained.

"Mr. Su has quite the boldness, to transfer five hundred thousand to someone whose authenticity you're unsure of. Aren't you afraid it's a fraud?"

Ling Zhenfei was very curious about this person who had taught Su Wanlong, wondering what kind of person could have such boldness to throw around such wealth so casually.

Su Wanlong laughed and said, "Since the gentleman has come, that means the five hundred thousand was worth it. But I, Su Wanlong, am not a fool; even if that person had tried to deceive me, I would have ways to get the money back."

Ling Zhenfei certainly knew that what Su Wanlong said was true. A rich person like him certainly had many connections, and it wouldn't be easy to swindle five hundred thousand from him. Moreover, from the look of Su Wanlong, it was obvious that he had been involved in the underworld—people from the underworld are fickle, and while he might seem polite now, who knew when he might turn hostile.

Deep down, Ling Zhenfei was unwilling to get entangled with people from the underworld, as he was still burdened with the Black Death Order. If he got too close to the underworld characters and accidentally gave himself away, it could spell trouble.

"Mr. Su invited me here today because he must have seen the rumors online claiming that I am the modern-day Hua Tuo, or the reincarnation of Bian Que. But these are just fabricated stories spread on the internet. I hope you don't harbor too many hopes. If I am capable of treating the condition, I will certainly give it my all, but if I can't cure it, please don't blame me."

"It's better that you're aware of your own limitations. I was just saying there's no such thing as a Divine Doctor; Wanlong simply wouldn't believe it." The moment Ling Zhenfei finished speaking, a woman walked out from behind Su Wanlong and looked at Ling Zhenfei with disdain as she spoke.

Ling Zhenfei was momentarily stunned; the woman appeared to be in her thirties, with delicate features and quite beautiful. However, her face was painted with garish makeup, her neck adorned with a thick strand of pearls, and she was wearing a blue and white cheongsam paired with tall high heels. As she walked, her movements were exaggeratedly feminine and flirtatious.

Despite being a beautiful woman, her words made Ling Zhenfei feel disgusted. Any person who could speak like that was in the wrong, in his book.

Su Wanlong, somewhat embarrassed by his wife's comment, glanced at her then introduced her to Ling Zhenfei, "This is my wife, Chang Hui. Please don't mind what she said just now; she's a bit skeptical about your medical skills."

"Wanlong, didn't you hear him say it himself? All that talk about a Divine Doctor is just internet hype. Nowadays, you can't tell truth from lies on the internet, and you actually believe in such things as 'Divine Doctors'?" Chang Hui rolled her eyes at Ling Zhenfei, not deeming him worthy of a proper glance.

Su Wanlong suddenly became a bit angry and said to Chang Hui, "Would you please hold your tongue? Divine Doctor Ling is a humble man, not something you womenfolk could understand!"

Mr. Su Wanlong's statement left Chang Hui with no choice but to remain silent, yet her expression was still one of unconcealed dissatisfaction and resentment.

"Divine Doctor Ling, since you've already come, please accompany me to see the patient. Whether or not you can cure him, all I ask is for you to do your best," Su Wanlong requested.

Since Su Wanlong had spoken, Ling Zhenfei had no choice but to agree.

Su Wanlong led the way, with Ling Zhenfei following behind him into the house, and Chang Hui followed as well, her high heels clicking loudly on the floor.

The villa had three stories, with a very large living room on the first floor. Men in black suits stood guard at every entrance, further confirming Ling Zhenfei's suspicion that Su Wanlong must have connections to the underworld.

Su Wanlong took Ling Zhenfei straight to the second floor and into a room there.

As the door opened, a servant was seen taking care of a patient who lay motionless in bed, seemingly in his thirties, his eyes wide open staring at the ceiling.

Su Wanlong approached the bed first to check on the patient and then stood up to say to Ling Zhenfei, "This is my brother, Su Wanhu. He was once a renowned figure who contributed enormously to establishing our family's business. Unfortunately, he made too many enemies, and just when things were looking up for him, a few years ago he was ambushed by a group of men. During the fight, he was struck in the head with a blunt object, and ever since, he has been in this state, which is a living death, what's commonly referred to as a vegetative state."

"You want me to treat someone in a vegetative state?" Ling Zhenfei asked with some surprise, knowing the complexity of such cases and not confident in his own abilities.

With a somewhat embarrassed expression on his face, Su Wanlong replied, "That's right, Divine Doctor Ling. I know it's a lot to ask. It's a medical dilemma, but you're different. We've been aware of you for some time. You've managed to treat leukemia, so someone in a vegetative state should be a minor matter for you, right?"

Ling Zhenfei quickly waved his hands and said, "Mr. Su, you really do think too highly of me. There are many types of vegetative states, some of which not even an 'Immortal' could handle, and as I've already told you, I am no Divine Doctor."

"I knew it, you claim you can cure anything online, but in reality, you're incapable of anything. Looks like that five hundred thousand is down the drain," Chang Hui had caught up by then, leaning against the wall at the doorway, her sarcasm biting.

Chang Hui's sharp and caustic comments made Ling Zhenfei extremely uncomfortable, and it only increased his reluctance to help treat Su Wanhu—lest he end up like the proverbial fox who fails to catch its prey and gets a stink for its troubles.

"Sir, please do whatever you can," Su Wanlong said to Ling Zhenfei, bowing deeply and sincerely.

Ling Zhenfei was taken aback; he hadn't expected Su Wanlong to show him such respect, even bowing to him, which was unlike the underworld characters he had imagined.

"Alright, Mr. Su, I'll give it a try," Ling Zhenfei acquiesced.

Su Wanlong appeared to be very pleased by Ling Zhenfei's agreement, thanking him profusely. On the other hand, Chang Hui still showed utter contempt for Ling Zhenfei, looking on with cold indifference.

Of course, Ling Zhenfei didn't care how Chang Hui saw him; he approached Su Wanhu's bedside, positioned Su Wanhu's arm onto the side of the bed, and began taking his pulse.
