Chapter 319 Seeking Justice

"Ling Xiu, don't worry, with me here, I'll seek justice for you." Ling Zhenfei comforted He Lingxiu before turning his gaze toward Wang Changhe.

"If you're concerned about practicing medicine without a license, you could go to the Bureau of Industry and Commerce. If your son was killed by He Lingxiu's acupuncture, then you should call the police. As for whether your son was actually killed by He Lingxiu's acupuncture needles, that's hard to say. But after all is said and done, you have no reason to take a living person away."

"Ling Zhenfei, this is a matter between the Wang Family and the He Family and it doesn't concern you, so it'd be best for you not to meddle," Wang Changhe said furiously, clearly loathing Ling Zhenfei.

"Anything related to the He Family is my business, so tell me, what exactly will it take for you to let Ling Xiu go?" Ling Zhenfei's goal was simple—he wanted to see what Wang Changhe was really after.

"Of course, it's about money, compensating us!" Suddenly, Liu Qinglian shouted from the side, revealing their ultimate motive.

It goes without saying, this was because He Lingxiu had started earning money by treating people in the village, which made Wang Changhe jealous. Wang Changhe was the type who couldn't stand to see others doing well; he had tried every means to thwart the operation of Xishan Manor back in the day.

"Then how much money do you want?"

Wang Changhe and Liu Qinglian were both stunned, not expecting Ling Zhenfei to agree so readily. They exchanged looks, and Liu Qinglian steeled himself and said, "It has to be at least two hundred thousand."

The surrounding people all gasped, two hundred thousand was no small sum for a rural family. Their village wasn't exactly wealthy, and the He Family was known to be particularly poor; even though He Lingxiu had started a clinic and earned some money recently, she certainly didn't have as much as two hundred thousand.

This girl, He Lingxiu, was too honest. The villagers always got medicine at the cheapest prices, and she even treated some families in difficulty for free, so two hundred thousand was simply out of the question.

After hearing this, Ling Zhenfei didn't look surprised. He chuckled and said, "Two hundred thousand, huh? That's not a lot. Have you really thought this through? Is your son's life only worth two hundred thousand?"

Everyone was shocked; although they knew Ling Zhenfei had made money, they hadn't seen anyone who offered money and then objected that it wasn't enough. Could it be that he really was that wealthy and callous?

Wang Changhe and Liu Qinglian were also taken aback, unsure of what Ling Zhenfei meant. They thought two hundred thousand was a significant amount.

"Two hundred thousand is certainly enough. Just give us two hundred thousand and we won't bother the He Family anymore. It doesn't matter that my son isn't dead; even if he were, we wouldn't come to cause trouble."

"No, two hundred thousand is too little. Instead, I'll give you four hundred thousand, but Wang Quan must die!" Ling Zhenfei's eyes were sharp, filled with a killing aura, as he felt he must teach Wang Changhe a lesson.

"No, that's impossible. My son won't die," Wang Changhe said immediately, unwilling to let his own son die.

"Since your son won't die, then He Lingxiu won't give you a single penny."

For some reason, Ling Zhenfei always felt that money wasn't Wang Changhe's true intention, because before he arrived, Wang Changhe had not mentioned money but seemed intent on dragging He Lingxiu out the door, presumably up to something else.

"Fine, we don't want the money anymore, but we will take He Lingxiu with us."

"Wang Changhe, we're all sensible people here, don't beat around the bush. Where exactly do you want to take Ling Xiu?"

"Aren't you refusing to give money? Then I'll take her to exchange for money, and not a cent less than two hundred thousand."

Ling Zhenfei felt a wave of anger building up inside of him. This Wang Changhe truly had no good intentions. Although he hadn't spelled it out, Ling Zhenfei had figured out that someone must have taken a fancy to He Lingxiu. All Wang Changhe needed to do was take He Lingxiu to them, and he would get the money. No wonder he had been so insistent on taking He Lingxiu out the door. However, this was all conjecture with no solid evidence.

"How much money can you get for taking Ling Xiu away?"

"Two hundred thousand, no less,"

Hearing Wang Changhe say this, Ling Zhenfei realized his guess had been completely correct.

"How about this, you take me to see your son, and if I can't cure him, I'll give you two hundred thousand,"

"You?" Wang Changhe and Liu Qinglian exchanged glances, obviously consulting each other.

"Alright, since you want to try curing him, go ahead. My son is extremely frail now, can't even get out of bed. If you can't cure him, then pay up."

Wang Changhe turned to the people around and said, "Everyone here, be witnesses. If this Ling Zhenfei can't cure Wang Quan's illness, he'll have to pay our family two hundred thousand as compensation."

"Don't worry, we all are witnesses. We'll judge fairly," Ma Ergou shouted from within the crowd.

"That's right, we are the witnesses,"

"Then let's not waste words. Let's go, to my house," Wang Changhe finally released He Lingxiu and led the way with Liu Qinglian at the front while a crowd of onlookers followed, eager to see this two-hundred-thousand bet.

Ling Zhenfei and He Lingxiu followed behind, with He Lingxiu's face full of grievance: "Brother Afei, I really didn't do anything wrong, nor did I prescribe any medicine to Wang Quan. There couldn't have been any issues."

Ling Zhenfei said with a smile, "You naive girl, Wang Changhe had planned this to swindle your money. How can you not see that? I bet even Wang Quan coming in for treatment was arranged by them."

"Is it really like that? I read in a book that said you can never wake someone who is pretending to be asleep. What if we meet Wang Quan and he keeps feigning sickness? Do we really have to compensate two hundred thousand?"

"Don't worry about that. We'll see what happens when the time comes,"

Ling Zhenfei was somewhat curious. Pretending to be sick and pretending to be asleep were completely different concepts. How could someone who pretends to be sick make it look convincing? How could one make others believe they were truly ill? It seemed quite difficult.

A throng of people moved mightily toward Wang Changhe's house, one of the few two-story buildings in the village, with a neatly arranged yard. The car parked at the front seemed to boast of his family's wealth, though how this wealth was acquired, no one knew.

After arriving at the house, Wang Changhe asked everyone to wait in the yard and took the two of them upstairs. Not much time passed before they saw Wang Changhe and a few others carrying a stretcher down from upstairs.

On the stretcher lay Wang Quan, motionless, his face was waxen and lips were purple, looking as if he were at death's door.

After placing Wang Quan in the yard, the crowd closed in to look.

"Oh my, is that really Wang Quan? How did he get so seriously ill?"

"Yes, it looks genuine. Wang Quan's condition is too bad; probably doesn't have long left,"

"It seems the village chief was right—Ling Xiu, this is big trouble,"

Seeing Wang Quan's condition, the crowd started to murmur among themselves. Wang Quan's appearance was indeed terrifying, and anyone who saw him would think he was at death's door.

Ling Zhenfei was also startled by Wang Quan's appearance but quickly regained his composure. He said to He Lingxiu, "Don't worry, I'm here for everything. First, you take his pulse; I want to see how good your Medical Arts are."
