Chapter 579: Making a living with talent instead of body
—”Your team slew Queen of Thorns•Shadow Succubus!”
Lin Jie eyed the system prompt message and was stunned. ‘She was killed just like that?’
The Inferno Chasm bolted out from the Garden Fear Devil Boss’ mouth, with its snake-like body and sharp teeth, and it inched towards Lin Jie.
“It really likes you.” Qiu Yuan grinned.
“Uh…” Lin Jie took two steps back silently, then another two steps… When there was no longer space for him to move, he said helplessly, “Sister, please take it back, it’s too disgusting!”
Qiu Yuan sniffed and held out her hand, and the Inferno Chasm obediently jumped onto the long black spread. The monster seemed to have fallen asleep, and its blades seemed to have grown sharper between each breath. It seemed to have grown in size as it resembled two curved blades.
Slam—
All of a sudden, the Inferno Chasm opened its mouth and spewed out three rotating runes. It was the runes in the Nine Great Techniques that it couldn’t digest.
“Here, for you.” Qiu Yuan stuffed the runes into Lin Jie’s hands nonchalantly as she laughed boldly. “How’s this? Big Sister is powerful, right?”
Lin Jie held up his thumb as Qiu Yuan’s strength had increased greatly! Furthermore, the most mysterious item she had was the Book of The Age. This game was called The New Age, and this book had part of its name? Could there be a link between the two?
The Garden Fear Devils’ deaths brought about rich rewards! Instantly, all the medicinal stores in the City of Light were stocked up. Herbs were randomly dropped after its death, and some rare ones might explode out as well. From today onwards, Sky Provisions Shop would go about purchasing these items in large quantities! With sufficient amounts of rare and high-grade ingredients, Seven Ears and Potion Maniac’s proficiency level would be further raised.
Many players also took this opportunity to benefit greatly, boosting both their levels and equipment. Lin Jie was thinking if he should release an announcement to reveal that he had slain this wave of monsters.
If Eighteen Massacres were to know of this fact, he would be so pissed!
In the Crystalsong Forest on the east side of the City of Light, Eighteen Massacres was indeed raging. This time round, he had really planned and prepared everything.
The Dark Shrine’s Master had released a historical task mission, which was the Legendary Main Track Mission—Conquering the Land! All Shrine Masters had to conquer at least one of the main cities with all the resources they had within the next three months. They had been rewarded with two items because of this mission.
One of them was the Hell’s Dew, and this was the sap that the Demon Lord, an Overlord demon, had left behind during his transformation—it was a super activator for the Undead.
The other one was his most powerful card on hand.
Eighteen Massacres’ plan was originally ingenious, as the Blood Sub Shrine had shown great potential and power beneath his operation. He had captured the Skeleton Kodos, Bone Dragons, and the other powerful creatures amongst the siege team from the deep beyond. These powerful Undead creatures, together with the helpers from the other land, as well as Hell’s Dew, contributed to the final outcome being in his favor.
However, regardless of how precise his planning was, he had failed to include the system’s rules: To prevent the monsters from overpowering the players in one go, the monster siege had been split into six waves, and Eighteen Massacres that was holding the Hell’s Dew was in the final wave!
As he eyed his subordinates turning into his arch-nemesis’ EXP and equipment, Eighteen Massacres was pissed. Without him, these Undead creatures and monsters would just be zombies and walking EXP sources. This was the greatest drawback of Undead creatures— although they were fearless, they were not very smart.
“This can’t continue.” At that moment, someone spoke. This man was clad in olive green forest armor and carried a greatsword—he was a dominating presence! However, his eyes were frosty, and everyone that caught his eye felt shivers running down their back.
This was the Fallen Bloody General•Ferocious Wolf, one of the six great Bosses! He said slowly, “I guess the opponent is pretty strong, considering how Shadow Succubus is dead! If this continues, this will turn into our graveyard as well.”
Next to him, there stood a feminine and pale-looking man; his pupils were a slit. That fellow seemed to be Death Knight•Poisonous Snake. His eyes pierced into Eighteen Massacres as he sneered. “A small discrepancy leads to a great error, with a mistake in your planning, such an awkward situation would definitely occur.”
Upon hearing this, Eighteen Massacres’ face grew pale, but he could not rebut against that. Although these men were technically his subordinates, they were not under his control and could not be offended. He laughed dryly and said, “No worries, we can just attack from the east and place most of our forces at the other gates to kill the commoners. How’s that?”
“Bullsh*t! Kill commoners? You are looking down on us,” growled Fierce Wolf.
“He isn’t wrong.”
At that moment, a soft voice sounded, and a pale human figure appeared. The raging Fierce Wolf shrunk his head, just like how a mouse reacted when it saw a cat. He said servilely, “You… came?”
“Ah, I am here for fun and to test out the new item I just got. The New Age is indeed too deep to fathom,” replied the newcomer.
A bloody read name crept up from above the white-clothed fellow’s head—Minstrel•White Cloth Scholar.
…
“Brother Lone Wolf, the second wave is so rewarding!” Dumb Fox sent a message and chuckled loudly. “There are countless rare herbs and even more equipment and coins. Oh right, don’t you know Eighteen Massacres? Can you ask him to get more monsters to attack? If this farming continues, it would be a breeze to reach Level 60!”
Knight’s Glory and Vampire City also followed suit with messages to praise the timing of their round of monster siege! Currently, many players were stuck at a stage where they weren’t particularly weak or strong, their equipment was not of a high level, but the monsters were very powerful. This was the ‘plateau’ of the game, and most players would start farming dungeons at this stage to gather sets to overcome this plateau. Hence, this round of monster siege had saved a lot of their efforts.
“Don’t lower your guard!” This was the only line that Lin Jie said.
Soon, the third wave of monsters arrived!
The monsters this time were the Orediggers. This was a mixed creature breed between Ogres and Dragonblood Giants. They were gigantic, very strong, and their nails were razor sharp. With a low intelligence level, they took on all the labor-intensive work without any complaints.
The Dark Shrine kept these creatures to mine the ores, and their efficiency was equivalent to how the humans used explosives and mechanical objects. Furthermore, as this was purely physical work, the quality of the ores was very high!
What’s the meaning of this? This meant that the Orediggers would retrieve many rare ores during their mining!
This was what Lin Jie valued! Just now, Seven Ears sent the news that the Uniform equipment blueprint’s research had been completed, however, the ingredients required were very precious and included superior-grade rare silver ores. This type of ores was the ingredient of many luxurious products and was tightly controlled by the Guild of Light and Holy Church. Hence, players would have difficulty in digging them out. However, the Orediggers could get them!
Amongst the wave of Orediggers were several Skeleton Kodos—they were Eighteen Massacres’ private army.
“Attack! Tower Throw.” Lin Jie commanded simply and bolted towards the army of Orediggers. He waved his Broken Blade and activated Flame Boost! The slender flame blade exploded amongst the monsters together with the Blade Aura Executioner. A series of more than 2,000 points of damage appeared! This damage and area-of-effect placed many Mages to shame.
Shoosh— Shoosh—
Upon receiving Lin Jie’s command, the towers atop of the City of Light’s walls attacked, and rounds of arrows rained down. The Orediggers were three meters tall and gigantic in size, plus they were so densely packed that there was no point in aiming. The arrows would reach their target just by shooting! The Magic Tower was also preparing a powerful spell to launch towards the monsters.
However, the Orediggers had very high health points and were able to tank the attacks as they inched towards the city walls before falling to their deaths. Ores exploded out from them, and amongst those were the silver ores!
“Bandits, get all those silver ores and bring them to the Provision shop,” said Lin Jie, and the Bandits followed his instructions. They snatched up all the ores instantly and kept them in their bags. Instantly, there was much scuffling as all the silver ores vanished.
In comparison with the East Gate, the other gates weren’t doing so well! Due to the Orediggers’ thick skin, plus their link to their Blood Dragon Giant ancestors, their defense was the Heavy Scaled Armor, and they had an additional 30% resistance against magic attacks. They disregarded the arrows and bolted to smash the gate. The gates’ endurance began to dawdle, which caused panic among the guild leaders as they sought Lin Jie for help.
Lin Jie gladly provided assistance, attaching 30 Bandits to every supporting team. The guild leaders did not understand what he meant by that, but after witnessing how the Bandits snatched up the silver ores hungrily, they then understood what was going on. Lin Jie did indeed live up to his name! He benefitted wherever he went! However, after despising them routinely, they couldn’t help but be in awe of the Brotherhood’s ability—the 50-men team could be on par with 100-men strong team!
Qiu Yuan wielded her long spear and flipped a Skeleton Kodo onto the ground as she turned to ask, “Hey, Fu Sheng, did you realize that the monsters here are lesser than the first two waves.”
Lin Jie said faintly, “Yeah, I guessed they learned from their lessons.”
“What countermeasures do we have?”
“Countermeasures? We will farm the monsters as per normal. If there’s an issue, just let your attractive friend help with the teleportation, right?” Lin Jie eyed Zi Mo.
Zi Mo rolled his eyes. “I am here for the pretty girls, not to sell my body.”
At that moment, The Heavenly Shield sent over a message that the Boss appeared at the north gate! Two of them!
