"Didn't you see what I have in my hand?"
Tian Xiwei gestured with the red wine and glasses she was holding in front of him.
"The night is long, and I can't sleep. Join me for a drink."
Without waiting for Sun Dasheng to refuse, she squeezed past him and went inside.
It was the same hanging chair on the balcony as before.
"Huh? Why is there a strange scent in here?"
After getting a low table from the room and pouring the wine, Tian Xiwei sat on the hammock where Sun Dasheng and Ding Muchen had been active earlier and asked her question.
"Ahem... It's probably the salty smell from the sea breeze," Sun Dasheng said evasively.
Was he supposed to tell her the scent had just come from his own body?
"Really? I come to the seaside often, but this is the first time I've smelled anything like this." Tian Xiwei wrinkled her nose, then smiled. "Let's not talk about strange things. Come on, let's have a drink."
She handed the glass of red wine to Sun Dasheng.
Then, she raised her glass to toast with him. "This first glass is to thank you for rescuing me from dire straits back in Hengdian."
With nothing to say to that, Sun Dasheng drank his wine.
She then refilled both their glasses and raised hers again. "This second glass is to thank you for bravely saving me from the pool that day."
She downed it in one go and looked at Sun Dasheng, who hadn't moved. "Brother Sun, why aren't you drinking?"
Sun Dasheng put down his glass. "I can't drink this one. That was just a coincidence, not some life-saving grace. Besides, the incident happened at my place, so I bear some of the responsibility."
"Let's just call it even then!"
Tian Xiwei laughed and nodded, then filled her own glass once more.
"This last glass is to our friendship!"
Seeing her sincere smile, Sun Dasheng found it impossible to refuse. "To friendship!"
After downing three glasses in quick succession, Tian Xiwei's face flushed red, and she was clearly a little drunk.
Before Sun Dasheng could react, she staggered and fell into his arms.
"Are you alright?" Sun Dasheng asked, holding her.
Tian Xiwei gazed at him with hazy, drunken eyes, saying nothing. Soon, an amorous atmosphere filled the space between them.
"You..."
"Don't talk. Kiss me!"
His lips met a taste that was salty and tender, mixed with the sweetness of the candied hawthorns they had eaten during the day.
After a long moment, their lips parted.
"So? Did my lips taste good?" Tian Xiwei asked.
"You're drunk," Sun Dasheng said, still holding her.
"No, I'm not," Tian Xiwei slurred, then let out a little burp.
She quickly clapped a hand over her mouth, embarrassed.
"You're not allowed to laugh."
Sun Dasheng said helplessly, "I'm not laughing!"
"I don't care. You owe me a kiss for that," Tian Xiwei began to pout shamelessly.
"You're the one saying that, right?"
"Mhm!" Tian Xiwei nodded.
"Alright then. But you're not allowed to start crying later."
"I definitely won't!" Tian Xiwei declared with conviction.
A few minutes later, tears were streaming down her face.
"You're so mean! You wouldn't let go. I almost suffocated!" she cried, pounding his chest with her small fists.
Sun Dasheng smirked. "And who was it that just promised they wouldn't cry?"
Then he added, "You're such a silly girl. If you can't breathe through your mouth, don't you still have a nose?"
Oh, right... No, wait! I couldn't breathe through my nose at all just now!
She raised a fist as if to hit him again.
Sun Dasheng dodged. "Then you're just silly."
"You're the silly one," Tian Xiwei cooed.
As the two of them joked around, Tian Xiwei's brow suddenly furrowed.
"What's wrong?" Sun Dasheng asked, noticing her expression.
She looked up at him. "Brother Sun, what do you have in your pocket? It's really hurting me."
"Uh..." Sun Dasheng was rendered speechless.
Could this girl really be so innocent? Was she faking it? Her expression didn't look like it. Did I just find a rare lotus blossom, one that emerged from the mud of the entertainment industry completely unstained?
At that thought, an impulse surged through him. Such a beautiful flower... if I don't pluck it now, when will I get another chance?
He leaned in and whispered in her ear, "Do you want to know what's hurting you so much?"
"Mhm. Brother Sun, please just tell me."
And then... the iconic "Hmph-hmph-ha-hey" from a Jay Chou song began to play.
Lying in Sun Dasheng's arms, Tian Xiwei finally understood what the thing that had been hurting her so much was.
"You're awful!" she mumbled weakly, thumping his chest.
"How am I awful? You can't just go around falsely accusing people," Sun Dasheng said with a smile.
"And you still say you're not awful? Everything about you is awful! You just love to pick on me."
"I wouldn't have told you if you hadn't insisted on knowing," Sun Dasheng retorted.
Tian Xiwei was left speechless.
It was all her own fault for being too curious. Curiosity really did kill the cat; that saying was spot on.
Seeing her kitten-print panties lying discarded to the side, she shyly buried her face in Sun Dasheng's chest.
Over the next few days, Sun Dasheng became a master of time management. He carefully allocated his time between the two women, ensuring they never ran into each other and created a chaotic scene.
「On the last day of their vacation.」
Tian Xiwei suggested they go diving.
Ding Muchen flatly refused.
"Why not?" Tian Xiwei asked, looking at her with puppy-dog eyes.
Ding Muchen tapped her on the forehead. "Have you not seen the news lately?"
Tian Xiwei whined, "I've been so busy with work. I finally get a few days off, so how would I have time to watch the news?"
Of course, what she was really thinking was, *I finally have a few days off to be all lovey-dovey with Brother Sun, so who has time to fiddle with a phone? Isn't playing with a person more fun?*
"Here, see for yourself," Ding Muchen said, handing over her phone.
Tian Xiwei took one look and jumped in fright.
Going diving wasn't just dangerous; it could easily get you killed.
"Is it really that bad?"
"What's going on?" Sun Dasheng asked, walking out of his room.
He had been pushing himself too hard recently, so he had taken a nap after lunch.
