Aaron stood atop the wooden wall, his gaze fixed on the horizon with a grim expression. The undead had already closed in to just 800 meters. The torch setup was 200 meters ahead, a critical marker.
The red portal continued to spew out undead, a dense flood of red dots on the map. At least five thousand.
Thankfully, there were no giant undead like last time, but Aaron could still spot numerous Death Knights.
He opened the map again. Most were Level 1 undead, followed by a mix from Level 2 to Level 10. And then, 30 Level 11+ undead knights.
Without hesitation, he commanded, "Rumba, light the torch. Then lead the guards to deploy the Ballista. Order them to attack once the undead pass the torch."
Rumba responded solemnly, "Okay, Lord Aaron."
He lit an arrow, aimed at the torch, and fired. The arrow struck true, the torch ignited, burning vigorously, thanks to the animal fat oil layered on it.
Task complete, Rumba turned to the guards. "Follow me. Open the gate and move out the Ballista!"
Aaron, meanwhile, drew his bow and arrow. He began targeting the charging undead knights.
Channeling Knight Energy into each arrow, he fired with precision, each shot piercing skulls, each knight crumbling before reaching the torch.
He was relieved. These undead knights lacked consciousness, they were easier to destroy.
Then he checked his stats.
200,000 experience points.
His eyes widened. He'd been searching for ways to earn experience and now, it was pouring in.
He glanced at the dense horde again. His breathing quickened. If he cleared the wave, he might earn even more.
It was ambitious, maybe even wishful thinking. But he was determined to farm as much as possible.
Down below, the soldiers had swiftly executed orders.
The Ballistae were deployed, awaiting the signal.
Rumba climbed back up, watching in awe as Aaron fired arrow after arrow. Small explosions echoed in the distance.
Previously, Aaron had reached the Knight Realm, firing 1,000 arrows in 15 minutes. Now, in the Great Knight Realm, his speed had increased dramatically.
Thanks to Torvald's carpenters, Aaron had stocked up 2,000 arrows, more than enough for this battle.
The undead reached the torch.
Aaron stored his bow, jumped down, and shouted, "Light the fire!"
He took control of a Ballista, "Fire!"
Flaming arrows soared through the air, striking skeletons, turning them to dust on contact.
Then Aaron remembered the Light Spell.
He turned to the Old Chief. "Don't shoot. Wait, I need to test something."
He walked toward the undead, fearless, his presence commanding admiration from the villagers.
At close range, he raised his hand. A ball of light shot forward.
As it illuminated the skeletons, they froze, then crumbled into dust.
Aaron was thrilled. He hadn't expected the Light Spell to be so effective. Now it was time for experience farming.
Khumba and the others watched nervously. Aaron was dangerously close to the undead.
Torvald was about to shout, but then he saw something he'd never forget.
The light ball pierced the darkness like hope itself.
Undead crumbled in seconds.
And then, more light balls, each one cleansing the battlefield.
Within minutes, the undead were reduced to dust.
Khumba, Torvald, and the others felt a mix of relief and melancholy.
Then Torvald spoke, "Wait… don't you think the light Aaron summoned is brighter than before? Stronger?"
Khumba nodded subconsciously. The light was indeed brilliant, he could see everything within its glow.
Aaron stared at his stats, stunned by the dazzling number: 610,000 experience points.
He was about to shout in excitement, but then he glanced at the map.
Red dots were approaching rapidly.
There were thirty-three figures. Thirty of them were Level 14 and above, and three were Level 21, 21, and 22.
Aaron's eyes twitched. He had just finished dealing with the undead and now this.
He knew instantly: they were enemies.
Without hesitation, he turned back and said, "Old Chief, ask the people to return. I have something important to do I'll be back soon."
He rushed out and hid in a tree, using the torchlight burning nearby to spot his targets as they approached.
Meanwhile, the cult leader followed the blood arrow,
guiding them through the dark forest. He had cast a Night Vision spell, granting ten minutes of clarity in the darkness.
He hoped the settlement was already wiped out, that way, the ceremony could proceed without resistance.
As they neared the torchlight, he raised a hand and said, "Wait here. I'll go and—"
Before he could finish, he rolled to the ground, an arrow had narrowly missed him.
A cult member shouted,
"AMBUSH!"
Arrows flew. In just two seconds, five cult members were dead.
The vice cult leaders reacted instantly, channeling mana to form a blood shield, protecting themselves.
The cult leader pointed toward the trees, where he sensed the attack had come from.
"Light!" he commanded.
A small orb of light flew forward, illuminating the trees, but the glow was weak, nothing like the brilliance Aaron had summoned earlier.
Aaron had already relocated, his expression solemn.
He hadn't expected to face a mage, and certainly not one this strong.
"F*ck… I have to kill them here. If I don't, they'll come for me later."
Without hesitation, he channeled Knight Energy into his arrows and fired from behind.
He didn't stop, he loosed two more arrows in quick succession.
The cult leader sensed danger. "Watch out!" he shouted.
But it was too late.
The first arrow pierced the guard protecting the vice leaders. The second struck down a vice cult member. The third killed an ordinary cultist.
The cult leader wore a gloomy expression. He had never imagined that within mere minutes of reaching the target location, he would be ambushed by a master archer.
The realization made him both angry and fearful.
He took a deep breath, trying to steady his thoughts. If this continued, he might lose his life.
Should he flee?
If he did, it would take great effort to recruit and train new members again. But then again, his life was at stake.
And if he survived, finding and training replacements wouldn't be a problem.
