Chapter 143: Blood for Blood

"Clang——"

The sound of a sword being drawn rang out.

"Enemy attack!" a member of the militia suddenly shouted in anger.

The other nearby militiamen also reacted quickly, immediately drawing their swords.

Years of arrogance had made this group of militiamen develop an overbearing attitude. Especially since most of them were relatives of the Village Chief, they carried themselves with a sense of superiority and disdain for others. None of them felt there was anything wrong with assaulting Aches and his mother, nor did they think there was any issue with their nephew attacking Aches.

Instead, they believed that the greatest mistake was that Akar, an outsider, dared to resist them in Kalel Village.

Therefore, once someone reminded them of their "official status", they instantly became extremely aggressive.

They quickly formed a combat phalanx and advanced toward Akar—unlike other villages that were destroyed during the three-year war between Red River Territory and Gem Territory, Kalel Village remained intact, which proved the combat strength of its militia was not low. After receiving investment from the Kasein Family and fully upgrading their equipment, their strength had greatly improved compared to the war period.

This, in fact, was the reason Kalel Village’s militia dared to act so arrogantly.

After all, they were indeed very skilled in battle—those who weren't had already died during the three-year war.

Akar quickly scanned the militiamen.

There were only about twenty people, of which roughly ten bore some resemblance in appearance, likely relatives of the Village Chief; the rest were relatively burly and strong young men.

They formed a small phalanx and began to close in on Akar from both sides.

This was a common military tactic meant to intimidate and apply psychological pressure on the enemy, forcing them to make mistakes due to tension—especially effective when outnumbering the opponent.

Akar raised his warbow and charged forward instead of retreating.

Not far behind him lay Aches, and Akar knew very well that if he remained where he was to fight, Aches might get caught in the battle and suffer further injuries—something Akar absolutely did not want to see. So he chose to move the battlefield closer to the Village Chief's direction.

Two militiamen positioned near each other quickly raised their swords to slash at Akar as he charged.

These two were either uncles of Yabos or at least had some blood relation to him.

Facing their slashes, Akar blocked with his bow. The body of the Rare Iron Warbow instantly withstood the strike from both swords.

"A pure iron warbow?!" The militiaman who had been giving orders was surprised to see Akar’s warbow easily block the swords. His brows furrowed slightly, and he felt a trace of unease rising within him.

But the battlefield changed rapidly and left no room for calm thought—especially since Akar’s counterattack was so fierce and ruthless that it sent chills through his heart.

After blocking the two slashes, Akar delivered a powerful kick to the militiaman on his right. Unleashing the full force of his bloodline power, Akar’s kick ruptured the man’s internal organs. As the man flew backward, he was already spewing blood and lost consciousness upon impact—clearly beyond saving.

Compared to the one on the right, the militiaman on the left met an even worse fate.

Akar swung his left arm backward, knocking away the man's sword, then gripped the end of the warbow with his right hand and swung it like a saber. With a thunderous whoosh, the lower end of the bow struck the man’s head and crushed it.

Just like Yabos and his cousin before, the man became a headless corpse.

"Three."

Akar’s voice was cold, and instead of retreating, he advanced once more.

This time, he charged straight into the militia's formation—if the entire Kalel Village militia had been mobilized, Akar might have been more cautious. But with fewer than thirty militiamen here, he had no reason to hold back.

His warbow swept out again.

Several militiamen tried to block him with their swords, but their weapons were inferior. In the next moment, their swords shattered upon contact with the warbow, and their heads followed.

"Seven!"

Akar was cold and inhuman. A brutal bloodlust surged inside him as he crushed the militiamen’s skulls one by one.

He kicked another militiaman, sending him flying and knocking down several others behind him, opening a gap in the right flank of the militia formation. Meanwhile, his left hand never paused—the Rare Iron Warbow, far superior to the militiamen’s gear, served both as a shield and a weapon. Every swing of the bow broke a weapon and a skull alike.

At this moment, Akar was like a ferocious tiger charging into a flock of sheep.

Not a single militiaman could stop his assault.

A sharp, piercing screech suddenly rang out.

It was a signal arrow shot into the sky.

Akar looked up.

He understood—it was a call for reinforcements.

This meant that Kalel Village truly regarded him as a powerful enemy attacking the village.

But so what?

Rather, this was exactly the outcome Akar preferred to see.

"Thirteen!"

Akar swept his warbow once more, instantly smashing another militia member who failed to dodge.

None of the militiamen Akar counted survived.

The heavy stench of blood filled the alleyway. At first, many had come simply to beat down a drowning dog, to show an outsider the unity and ferocity of Kalel Village—at least, that was the Village Chief’s intent when he gathered so many people here. He had wanted to assert dominance in front of the outsider.

After all, although he had previously spared Aches for the sake of appearances and reputation, it was precisely because of people like Aches that, in the past month, these outsiders in the village had started acting differently—even daring to bargain with him. That was why he had turned a blind eye to his grandson Yabos constantly harassing Aches, even advising him on how to strike without compromising their family’s word.

But now, he never imagined that a mere outsider could possess such terrifying strength!

"Capture Aches!" the Village Chief suddenly roared. "Hurry up and seize Aches!"

"Fourteen!" Akar killed another man, then heard the Village Chief’s words.

His expression instantly darkened.

Several militiamen, utterly frightened by Akar’s brutal slaughter, immediately turned away from facing him upon hearing the Village Chief’s command. Instead, they charged quickly toward Aches.

In their eyes, seizing Aches and using him to threaten Akar was easier than facing certain death.

Akar scanned the situation quickly and realized that, at his current speed, he could at most catch up to three slightly lagging men, but two others would definitely reach the unconscious Aches before he could kill them.

That realization instantly ignited his rage. "Courting death!"

At that moment—

Akar finally held nothing back!

His left hand gripped the warbow, while his right hand suddenly drew the bowstring. A blazing arrow entirely composed of flame instantly formed on the warbow.

Akar didn’t even aim—he released the bowstring immediately.

One arrow fired, and he quickly drew a second.

Then a third.

Three arrows in succession pierced the heads of the three leading militiamen.

And because Akar showed no concern for the youths and other villagers near those militiamen—after all, in Akar’s eyes, they were all beasts like the Village Chief, the culprits behind his nephew’s current unconscious state—he spared no mercy.

The devastation caused by those three arrows instantly threw the scene into greater chaos.

When everyone realized that the outsider they were facing was actually a "Knight Lord-like figure," they erupted in panic: the villagers who had only been watching fled in terror, stumbling over each other. Even those outsiders forced to obey the Village Chief were now overwhelmed by fear—some dropped to their knees, begging for mercy, while others grabbed their children and fled.

After swiftly killing the two militiamen he had caught up with, Akar’s cold gaze fell upon the fleeing villagers dragging their children. Without hesitation, he pulled back his bowstring again, rapidly firing arrow after arrow of flame—now that his identity as a bloodline user had been fully revealed, Akar had no reason to hide any longer. He unleashed volley after volley, just like when he had fired eighteen arrows on the plains after rescuing Baron Ster.

"You… you are…"

Kalel Village’s Village Chief stared at Akar in terror. "Blazing Bow Akar!"

"I am Akar Soderbell," Akar said coldly, staring at the Village Chief and the man beside him, who appeared to be the militia captain of Kalel Village. "Use your blood to cleanse the offense committed against a member of the Soderbell Family."

"Wait!"

"We are under the lord of Red River Territory—"

Akar released the bowstring.

The flaming arrow pierced the Village Chief’s head, blasting it into a mist of blood.

"This is all just a misunderstanding—"

"Tell my elder brother that."

Akar released the second arrow, blowing apart the head of the man assumed to be the Village Chief’s son.

Seeing Akar’s bloody and merciless methods, the surrounding survivors were even more terrified.

"My elder brother, Red Eagle Sword Yam Soderbell, is the husband of Baron Lily Bole, the lord of White Mountain Territory."

"My father, Ion Soderbell, is the Household Knight of Baron Lily Bole, and the Chief Knight Commander of the Bole Family."

"I, Blazing Bow Akar Soderbell, am the Household Knight of Baroness Anna Billy, the lord of Gem Territory, and the Chief Knight Commander of the Billy Family."

"Aches Soderbell is the eldest son of my elder brother, Arsen Soderbell. He is my nephew!"

"You attacked him—that is a declaration of war against the Soderbell Family!"

"But I am very merciful." Akar thrust the warbow into the ground. "So I have decided to give you a chance. All those who participated in the attack on Aches Soderbell must sever their right hand and left leg. All those who once attacked Aches Soderbell’s mother must also sever their right hand and left leg. The Soderbell Family does not accept any monetary compensation."

"Blood for blood!"
