Chapter 85: Searching for the Butcher

Driver's eyes were now a bright, vivid red, as if affected by Alex's power.

"..." Alex opened his mouth to speak, but to Louis it was nothing more than strange syllables — in any case, it was definitely not human speech.

At the same time, the car suddenly lunged forward at an unimaginable speed, making Louis's whole body tremble.

"Hey, I went out and put in all the effort while you just sleep here and enjoy yourself — lucky you, huh?!"

Suddenly, Alex's voice, full of anger, rang close by. Louis thought back to how Alex looked a moment ago and didn't want to open his eyes.

But no matter what, he still had to face Alex.

The instant he opened his eyes, Louis nearly stopped breathing.

Alex had left the passenger seat and sat in the back with him.

His wolf head was still intact; the hollow eye sockets flickered with red-and-black patterns, the corners of his mouth stretched tight, saliva dripping down onto the seat and the car floor.

"Why are you looking at me like that? Louis, are you scared?"

Alex's small body suddenly pressed close. Louis lowered his gaze and didn't move an inch; his hand at his side was frantically pinching himself.

Finally, Louis raised a hand and shoved Alex's face away, saying in disgust, "You're filthy."

Alex: "..." Alex really wanted to open his mouth wide and bite Louis's throat off, but thinking of his father's warning, he pinched his mouth shut for the moment.

Eventually, the driver pulled the car over and let them out. Louis said, "Tell him to stop at Supermarket S-54."

At that, Alex seemed to pause for a moment, lost in thought about something, but he didn't oppose Louis.

Father had said there was something hazardous inside Supermarket S-54 — outside, each place is the domain of a demon, and the same applies inside Supermarket S-54. There's a demon ruling that place, but it doesn't follow the city's rules.

Father said many people would hunt that existence down — could Louis be one of those hunters? Did he want to devour it to become stronger? How cool!

Alex decided he would snatch Louis's prize no matter what!

The car quickly stopped at Supermarket S-54. Alex practically grabbed Louis's hand at top speed and dragged him inside. The more they ran, the more his face returned to normal.

He said, "Hurry before the driver sobers up, or we'll get caught again!"

Louis quietly followed behind him. The sudden appearance of the two kids in this place naturally drew quite a bit of attention.

Louis noticed that everyone here looked completely normal, without that strange, unsettling feeling he always got when facing the Adonis family.

The people he'd met before—even when they disguised themselves as humans—still radiated something off, something abnormal that Louis could always sense.

But there were exceptions.

Like the security guard — his eyes were huge, stretching almost to the corners of his mouth — yet no one seemed to notice.

Alex snorted coldly. "What a boring place. Nothing tasty here at all!"

Louis had no idea what Alex found "tasty": the food on the shelves… or something else entirely.

He said, "Let's go find the butcher."

Hearing that, Alex immediately started walking, but a second later, it was as if something struck him.

He stomped his foot, crossed his arms, and glared at Louis angrily. "You sure love ordering me around, huh, Louis? You're getting more and more insolent!"

But Louis ignored him and directly shoved Alex aside, taking the lead.

Unless Alex had that wolf head again, to Louis, he was nothing more than an annoying kid.

Being pushed made Alex stumble; he shouted furiously, "Louis, you really are insufferable!"

Still, despite his words, his pace quickened—he didn't want to miss any chance to grow stronger.

A butcher in a supermarket? It sounded absurd, no matter how you looked at it.

Louis and Alex passed through several meat sections, but a single butcher was in sight.

Alex was starting to get tired. He stopped, glaring at Louis in frustration. "We've searched this whole place! There's no butcher anywhere! And why would there even be one in a supermarket?! You're messing with me, aren't you?"

Louis lowered his gaze, deep in thought. Supermarket S-54 was a clue, but maybe the butcher wasn't inside the supermarket — perhaps he was nearby. That was still possible.

Just then, something clicked in Louis's mind. He suddenly turned and ran straight toward the security guard!

Alex's eyes widened. "Hey! Don't you dare leave me behind!"

He yelled, then quickly ran after him.

The security guard was still standing at the center of the supermarket, his body slightly hunched, face weary. To Louis's eyes, it looked as though the man's eyes were about to slide right out of their sockets.

Noticing Louis and Alex approaching, the guard lowered his lashes and looked down at them.

In a polite, childlike voice, Louis asked, "Excuse me, where is the butcher's counter?"

The guard squinted at him for a moment, then opened his mouth. His tired, emotionless voice sounded: "Walk two rounds around the meat section, don't look up, stomp your feet in place ten times, then turn left."

Louis nodded. "Thank you," he said, then turned to leave.

Just then, a hurried noise echoed from afar. Alex's eyes widened as he grabbed Louis's hand and shouted, "Hurry! The driver's catching up to us!"

As he ran, he grumbled, "Why didn't you ask the guard earlier, huh? Ever think of using that brain of yours? Move, move!"

Alex's speed was no joke—Louis was panting just trying to keep up.

Behind them, the frantic yet helpless shouts of the driver echoed through the air. The poor man was probably watching his high-paying job slip through his fingers.

Following the guard's instructions, Alex dragged Louis around the meat section twice. Louis stopped him. "Calm down. Don't step too many times or too few."

Seeing Alex so flustered, Louis feared he'd mess up the pattern and miss the entrance.

Alex snorted, shaking off Louis's hand and raising his chin proudly. "Worry about yourself! Come on, hurry up!"

With that, he began counting under his breath. Louis didn't bother arguing; his feet were moving steadily in rhythm.

"Alright, turn left!" Alex shouted excitedly and dashed to the left.

Thud!

He suddenly slammed into something solid and stumbled backward. Before he could even curse, the driver's anxious voice rang out, "Young Master Alex, are you alright?"

Startled, Alex looked up to see the driver rushing to help him, but Louis was nowhere to be seen. Even stranger, the supermarket around him looked the same as before, unchanged.

"No way! Where's Louis? Where is he? I need to find Louis!" Alex roared, struggling violently.

The driver held him firmly and babbled, "I've already contacted Lord Andersen, sir. Please come back with me, or Lord Andersen will be furious."

"I don't care! Louis! I have to go with Louis! Louis, you bastard, you damn dog!"

Alex shouted furiously, tears spilling down his face. Clearly, he hadn't listened to Louis—but of course, Alex was never wrong in his mind.
