Chapter 887 - Life On the Line (Part 2)

Chapter 887: Life On the Line (Part 2)Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio

The powerful winged skeleton, the winged skeleton who was exceptionally skilled in combat and magic, was like a toddler in front of the angel of fear. She was free to toy around with him. The face at the angel of fear’s torso lashed out its tongue and coiled it around him. The winged skeleton’s body exploded all of the sudden. The soul flames in his eyes contracted and went straight into his golden heart.

Nailisi happened to witness the scene where the winged skeleton self-destructed as she made her way out of the magic tower.

She felt something tug at her mind. She sped up by having her nightmare go faster, charging right for the angel of fear. She did not know why she did so, but she knew that what she was doing was not for Saleen. The winged skeleton’s self destruction caused the tongue lashed that out to be blown to bits.

The self destruction of a king level spirit was not something even a grade-12 creature was able to take up close and personal. The golden heart even had the force of the explosion focused entirely on the tongue.

The angel of fear’s body went stiff and her face twisted. “How many years has it been? The very first time in all these years! The first time I’ve gotten hurt! The first time I’ve felt pain!” The blade in her hand swooped down at the golden heart left behind by the winged skeleton like a streak of lightning.

Nailisi thrust her spear. The angel of fear reacted to it with an evil smirk. “I was waiting for this!”

The seven yard long blade flipped in the angel of fear’s hand. The tip of the sword clashed with the tip of Nailisi’s spear. Nailisi burst the energy within her spear while the angel of fear vibrated her blade. The black faces on it shrieked as if in pain.

The silverline golden spearfish’s unique attack compressed the energy at one single point, bursting a sharp metallic tang as the weapons clashed. The black faces on the angel of fear’s blade blew off one after another, disappearing without a trace and revealing the green blade underneath the eerie coating.

The angel of fear simply twisted her wrist in response, and more black faces emerged from the blade. The resulting shrieks caused Nailisi an unbearable headache. The color of the blade was concealed entirely once again. The angel of fear followed by flipping her wrist, bringing down the back of the blade onto Nailisi.

Saleen was right behind her, making her unable to simply dodge the incoming attack. She thrust again with her spear and the two weapons clashed once again.

Twang!

The material of Nailisi’s spear was sturdy enough to withstand hard blows with the angel of fear’s blade, yet her power paled in comparison to the eight yard tall monster. It was not something that resulted from the difference in body sizes. Even if Nailisi were to take her devil form, her power still would have been nowhere near the angel of fear’s. Worse still, the angel of fear’s expertise in the use of power was more intricate than Nailisi’s by thousands of times. Even if they possessed equal amounts of power in their blows, the angel of fear would still have been able to deal damage tens of times higher than Nailisi.

The spear trembled violently. It was only due to the sturdiness of its material that it was not shattered by the angel of fear’s slash. The force traveled along Nailisi’s arm and seeped right into her bones, trembling them so violently that the pain made Nailisi think they were broken.

The electrical discharge on Nailisi’s body managed to somehow mitigate the force of the angel of fear from reaching her fully.

The angel of fear was somewhat baffled. The human was nowhere even near as powerful as that spirit she had just fought. How did she manage to take two blows from her? She had also thought the spear to be an interesting piece, but it was far from able to do her harm.

The angel of fear swung her blade in a circle. A large face emerged from the heart of the circle. Saleen managed to close in on the angel of fear from behind. He thrust his wooden sword forward, casting Endless Night. The spell swallowed the black face in the circle. Twenty-four ancient warriors made it in time and snatched away the winged skeleton’s golden heart.

The angel of fear frowned. She wondered if she should go for that peculiar golden heart or stay to fight Nailisi who had a weird weapon. The witcher spider jumped from Saleen’s arms right onto the face on the angel of fear’s torso.

The angel of fear’s face at her torso did not mind at all, thinking the beast to simply be a grade-9 creature. She thought it convenient to have one such meal go right for her mouth, enabling her to devour its soul and strengthen herself. The face was rather irritated at having its tongue blown off earlier. The witcher spider’s size was not even big enough fit between its teeth.

Gulp!

The ferocious face swallowed the witcher spider whole after biting it to pieces. Saleen’s family badge and the broken jade left behind by Shanglan were swallowed alongside the spider.

“Run!”, Saleen yelled in the demon tongue. A tornado swept up the golden heart in the ancient warrior’s hand, and the group retreated in the direction opposite the tower.

Nailisi saw how Saleen crafted the witcher spider earlier. She ran in the opposite direction as soon as Saleen gave the order. One went to the left and one went to right, leaving the twenty-four ancient warriors behind.

It was surprising to the angel of fear that a grade-9 spell from Saleen was able to dispel the skill used on her blade. What baffled her more was how the two who came charging ferociously at her suddenly decided to simply run away. She hesitated on which one to chase after for a moment. The angel of fear’s intellectual capacity all came from broken souls. Delay in calculations happened time to time, just like how there was no such thing as perfect connections between magic spells.

In her brief moment of hesitation, all twenty-four ancient warriors pounced on her. The warriors were more adept at combat than elemental puppets. They all stood just beyond the range of the angel of fear’s weapon. The blade’s shimmer was nothing compared to the physical attacks from the blade itself.

Two of the winged skeleton’s weapons and both his wings were easily broken with just three strokes. She hardly used any skill at all. It was just all chops and flourishes done without paying any mind to it.

The wind dragon that Saleen commanded looked like a vortex, wrapping the golden heart in the middle and taking it faraway. The angel of fear flipped her blade at them, and a huge Blade Shimmer cut off the way Saleen and Nailisi were trying to return to the tower. The two of them did not intend to return to the tower in the first place though. They had instead made it to the further reaches of the imperial city.

A strong burst of pain exploded within her body as her blade missed its intended targets. The soul of the face on her torso was being absorbed by the broken jade, and half of its soul was gone. The angel of fear’s soul was linked with the face’s; they were entangled with each other. If the soul of the face was absorbed, her own would not be able to escape either.

The angel of fear jumped and a hole appeared in the seawater. She appeared right behind Saleen in a flash. With a swipe of her hand, she snatched the man off of the nightmare’s back.

“Take that thing back, or I will kill you right now!”, the angel of fear lifted Saleen before her face and roared.

Saleen smirked and his body broke into pieces of shadows, which disappeared into the dark. The angel of fear extended her arm to grab the true Saleen in the broken shadows.

Saleen cast Water Shield and the angel of fear did not bother breaking his spell. She simply stuffed Saleen’s head into her mouth. She put her teeth right on his neck.

The threat was painfully obvious. Saleen knew exactly what she meant without her having to say a word.

The very reason why Saleen cast Water Shield was so that he was able to speak. He smirked, “You have no idea who I am?”

The angel of fear felt the soul she was linked was being absorbed by something terrifying. Even a grade-12 being’s soul was unable to resist such a force. She was able to hold out for a few minutes at most, then it would be her turn!

“Who are you?”, the angel of fear suppressed the frustration in her mind and asked.

“Saleen Metatrin,” Saleen told the truth. He was merely biding his time with conversation. He did not expect the angel of fear to actually ask for his name.

“I don’t know who you are. If you are not taking out your weapon, I will snap your head off right now!”

“I’m riding a nightmare, so I’m without a doubt a death mage. Chomping down on my head will only make me a death wizard. What are you going to do then?”, Saleen incited sarcastically.

The angel of fear’s teeth broken his Water Shield in an instant. Saleen simply gave a cold smirk instead of resisting.

The angel of fear spit his head out and grabbed him by the waist. She lifted him in front of her face. The sense of crisis eating away within her became increasingly dire by the second. The eerie thing had already absorbed most of her linked soul into it. Her soul and her linked soul were both grade-12 souls. “Just what is that thing trying to suck us in?!” There were no signs of divinity in the broken jade, making it a pure human equipment. She had thought the people before her to be believers of gods. “Just how…”

Saleen cast another Water Shield calmly. The shield was only wrapping his head. He then said, “You can cut your soul out. Having two souls entangled with each other doesn’t feel nice I’m guessing.”

The blade in the angel of fear’s hand twitched. She had no idea how Saleen was able to tell that there were two souls residing within her body.

The principle behind it was actually very simple. The broken jade had been crafted again by Saleen. As such, Saleen knew everything the broken jade was doing. There were two powerful souls inside the monster’s body. Saleen had been worried about his plan falling apart, but by the current looks of things, the angel of fear’s limited intelligence would not allow her to think her way out of her predicament.

He only hoped that the angel of fear could be dumber, just so that he could buy more time. As soon as the soul of the angel of fear herself started being absorbed by the Eternal Control shard, she would lose all ability to act against him!

“Humans were such vile creatures…” the angel of fear said all of a sudden. A whiff of black smoke burst out of her nostrils and dispelled Saleen’s Water Shield, intending to drill into his nose.

Saleen held up his left hand and pointed at the angel of fear. The Crystal Finger’s terrifying power leaked out. Sensing the looming threat right in front of her, she let out a terrifying shriek.

It was fear magic!

That was the angel of fear’s inherent skill, which was capable of destroying her enemy’s will in an instant. She only needed to break Saleen’s will. The level difference should have allowed Saleen to finish only half of her intended skill, rendering him unable to cast his spell.

While the angel of fear’s intelligence was not impressive, she still possessed incredible combat capacity. Her skill was cast just right. If it had been used at anyone else, it would have enabled the tables to be turned in her favor. Saleen had been waiting for her to cast her spell however. As she cast her spell, the badge which she swallowed began to maniacally absorb the angel of fear’s power.

All the energies within the body of the grade-12 being rushed into the Saleen’s family badge.

Saleen’s smile brightened. He felt a loss of power in the hand she held him captive with. He saved his own life by putting his life on the line. If he had not done so, his magic tower would have been broken sooner or later. He would simply have delayed the inevitable.

One could have only be able to get out tough spots by putting one’s life on the line!
