Chapter 1491: Advent of the Divine Kingdom (Part 2)
Saleen did not care about any casualties amongst those that adhered to the Nature Faith. However, the Goddess of Myers could not afford to feel the same way. Her existence would have been pointless otherwise. After all, those believers where the ones who prayed and sang her praises to acquire happiness for themselves.
To Myers, her exchange with the believers was fair. She only needed a bit of their souls to resurrect those who died in her own divine kingdom. She was not like the other gods. As a god born on Myers Mainland itself, she was very generous.
There were relatively few gods like her; those who hardly craved power.
If it had not been for the need to resurrect her own followers, she would not have even bothered expanding the Nature Faith. The main reason for the expansion, however, was that, after her resurrection, she did not want to get the mainland involved anymore.
Her godly powers were originally caused by a magic experiment of hers. She had only wanted to acquire a divine persona using her own powers, before separating from said divine persona.
However, such an experiment was not something that even a level 18 mage was able to control. Because of this, she unfortunately became a god. The experiment even ended up absorbing the power of the Source of Myers Mainland.
A level 18 god would have been devastating to Myers Mainland.
The powers of those across the entirety of Myers Mainland dropped sharply within mere moments while her own powers rose exponentially.
She took the opportunity to kill many level 18 gods, as well as isolate the mainland altogether, preventing it from being attacked by other planes for a time. Afterward, she chose to die of her own free will.
She was struggling with deciding to protect her believers at the expense of casting away her followers.
Those who had followed her back then had given up being humans after all, and that had been a huge sacrifice on their part.
There were also those whom she killed personally because they refused to renounce the glory of humanity. That thought actually pained her somewhat.
She was unable to keep herself from smirking. It seemed that the reduction of her powers had messed with her control in more ways than one. If it had been all those years ago, she would not have lost her ability to judge the situation, like she had currently, over something like that.
“You want to see what my trump card is like, then?” Myers called as she took out a figure, putting it on the divine beast’s back. She also put a space ring on the figure, then threw a large number of magic scrolls into the ring.
“Just sit tight and wait for that puny god to advent. When Saleen’s followers are unable to handle the situation, release all of those scrolls at once while staying back,” the goddess said as she patted the divine beast’s head. The divine beast then reluctantly left the temple.
That temple had been a great place for the beast to live. It always had a full belly and there was no need for it to fight anyone. The best thing, of course, had been the fact that it no longer had to deal with Saleen’s children. They were both as**oles!
The divine beast shuddered when it recalled what those two had done to it.
Is that what the mages called ‘psychological trauma’? The divine beast checked its soul again and again, not finding any signs of damage on it. However, it was unable to fathom why the mere recollection of those two would have caused it to shudder against its will.
The divine beast left, exasperated. It was only then that the goddess painstakingly conjured a double of her own. She took her double to the tablet in the temple, then smacked the double onto the tablet, sealing her inside.
She then tapped the tablet and said, “If I die, you shall take my place. It’s quite a pain making doubles all the time, after all.”
Her mood had apparently lightened after she spoke. She unleashed everything she had in her bangle before chucking it all into the tablet one by one.
You want my powers? Then come trade your life for them!
The goddess then let out a hearty laugh and flew outside the temple. She arrived outside the Purgatory Desert in mere moments. A level 15 god was a piece of cake; it was that Heretic God that would prove troublesome, and she needed to deal with it herself. However, before going up against that god, she needed to talk to Saleen for a bit to get rid of the heroic spirits in the cemetery.
They had been her comrades, and at present, they had become her enemies.
Saleen had put away the 12 Notes of First Purgatory and was about to return to the Floating City when he sensed spatial vibrations that made him shudder. The goddess suddenly appeared before him.
Saleen fired seven lightning icicles on reflex. He had already realized that it was the goddess herself standing before him. However, he had not believed that she would have just left the temple, which had caused his instincts to kick in and led him to attack.
“Hah, you actually didn’t bother using your strongest attack. Seems like you have no intentions of killing me for the time being then,” the goddess said. She chuckled as she held the seven lightning icicles in her hands. The electrical discharge from the icicles did not seem to affect her at all.
“Goddess of Myers, are you here to pick fights with me then? Yes, I killed two of your oracles,” Saleen said bluntly.
“I know, and that is why I’m here to get even.” The goddess’ antics were much like that of Nailisi. Saleen had wanted the mood to appear solemn and tense, yet he was unable to act that way himself.
“Well, how do you want to do it then?” he asked.
Seeing how relaxed Saleen was, the goddess continued. “Head to the Imperial City of the Abyss and help me communicate with those dead heroes. I need to do something dangerous and I need everyone to be on board,” she said.
“Mind telling me what that would be?” Saleen asked.
“We leave immediately. You could write a letter to your teacher telling him to take charge of things and fight the Lord of Glory,” the goddess said.
Seeing how forceful she acted despite wearing a smile, Saleen knew there was little else he could have done to sway the god who had once been a mage. However, he asked nonetheless, “If I were to agree to the proposal, then you’d spare all of my followers. Am I correct?”
“From here on out, you could have all of your followers return to the mainland. I would do nothing against them,” she stated.
“Well then, follow me.” Saleen then took the goddess to the Floating City.
The goddess glanced toward where the Magical Element Tower was and asked, “Why are you using something so dangerous, Saleen?”
“Dangerous?” he asked.
“You could have caused the birth of a new god with that thing; a level 18 one at that,” she said.
“We’ll get to that later. If we can’t kill the Lord of Glory, there is no point in me thinking about anything that could happen in the future,” he said. Saleen admitted bluntly that he was not all that responsible of a person.
The goddess did not care for Saleen’s prattling. She simply waited outside the tower while Saleen went inside to attend to his business.
The first thing he did after returning to the tower was summon Nailisi and the Winged Skull. He contacted his teacher after returning the 12 Notes of First Purgatory to Nailisi, hoping that Jason would be able to come to the Floating City and take care of things.
After he was done with all of that, Saleen handed some of his prized magic nuclei, equipment, and godly items over to Nailisi, saying to her, “Nailisi, the Goddess of Myers is outside the door right now. I’m not a match for her, and even working together we still wouldn’t be able to take her on. I’m being forced to do something dangerous now and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to come back alive. Keep these. Make them your own or just throw them into the collection of purgatories to enhance it…”
“Master, I’ll go out and cut her up right now!” Nailisi was being rather impulsive. She was able to see the goddess standing outside of the tower. Fires of intense jealousy burned inside her.
“That’s impossible. It is not a certainty that I will die while doing this. The chances of me surviving might actually be quite large. I’m giving you all of these just in case.” Saleen thought for a bit, then called Nicholas over. “Nicholas, follow Nailisi around. She might be petty, but she is not going to leave you to your own devices.”
“Master, how about we just head back to the spirit plane?” the Winged Skull said suddenly.
Saleen smiled and said, “Bing, this is my chance. If I’m able to survive this, I’ll definitely be able to reach level 15. Things would be smooth-sailing from then on out. If I’m unable to take this one step forward, this is where I’ll be stuck for the rest of my life.”
“What about Sika, then?” Nailisi mentioned Sika instead of Lex, knowing that the Caucasian woman was the one that he was the most concerned about.
“We have kids, don’t we? She’d head to the Imperial City of the Abyss with me, and we would stare into the eyes of death together,” Saleen responded.
“Master!” Nailisi was getting extremely irritated. She was unable to accept that he was leaving her out of something like this.
“You’ve been taking Myers’ appearance for far too long. Did you really think that she wouldn’t have been irked? Don’t get into trouble. Like I said, my death is not a sure thing. It’s just that this whole thing is something that even Myers would consider to be dangerous,” Saleen said.
Nailisi turned around, feeling very anxious.
Saleen then said, “Wait for my return. Hopefully the Lord of Glory will be dead by then.”
The Goddess of Myers waited quietly outside the tower. She was rather curious about Saleen. That mage was only able to get as far as he did because he had acquired her Ring of Gift. But, among those who had received her luck, Saleen’s portion had been very small. He had been able to achieve so many great things due to the powers given to him by others.
Lightning powers were the highest form of powers to be had, and those would not have been something that could be easily wielded by someone with his type of talents. However, she was able to clearly sense that Saleen’s ability to control lightning was leaps and bounds ahead of what he had been capable of when they had last fought each other.
Just what kind of a person is protecting such a puny human and guiding him into this many mystical encounters?
The act of Myers taking Saleen to the Imperial City of the Abyss was a gamble in itself. She was betting on Saleen’s survival and that he, in turn, would give her good luck. That was something that Saleen remained oblivious of. In his mind, it was he who was instead hoping to acquire luck from the goddess.
It took over half an hour before Saleen emerged from inside of the tower. “How are we getting there?” he asked the goddess.
“I’ll be taking you there. Just be patient,” the goddess said as she took Saleen by the belt. Both of them suddenly shot forward. Saleen was able to see with the Eye of Souls that he was being wrapped in a layer of elements, and that they were charging into a portal.
So, this is the ability to jump through space? The goddess had deliberately lowered the speed of the process so that he could clearly see what was happening. If Saleen were smart enough, he would have been able to learn certain space functions. That was, if he was diligent enough to remember the entire process, and to research it further when he had the time.
When Saleen and the goddess appeared outside the Imperial City of the Abyss, an extremely huge portal also appeared at the center of Cloudflow Empire. That gate was not the figurative gate often mentioned by mages, but a true, huge gate, which looked dazzling because of how extremely lavish it was.
The steps before the gate were several kilometers wide, and they looked spotlessly white and shimmered like jade.
Loud holy songs were heard from the other side of the gate, filling the air. Legions of angels were gathering about and becoming accustomed to the rules of Myers Mainland, getting ready to charge outside.
The divine kingdom advent and the nobles of the Cloudflow Empire were all shocked. A massive army consisting over a million troops had amassed, preparing to hold the line at all cost. That was probably the last bit of decency left in the people of Cloudflow.
They were utterly unwilling to become slaves of a god, and would have rather faced their greatest fear of dying on the battlefield.
