“As long as you remain beneath god, all of you are ants. Begone!” Genesis simply pointed a finger and the four swordmasters became motionless in midair before smashing to the ground.
There was only a window for a single breath. In that period, Faerun had already taken out a scroll and opened it.
A boundless darkness slowly spread and soon covered more than half of the army camp. Genesis burst out into laughter and said, “Darkness is never permanent. In the name of my lord, disperse!”
A sky full of light overwhelmed the darkness and the darkness was quickly eliminated. However, what was terrifying about this was that the light formed a physical screen which engulfed the camp. The Bitter Water Army had three thousand troops, and the camp spanned a large area. Genesis had single handedly taken control of the camp compound. Soldiers outside the camp tried to break through it, but were bounced back.
Aside from the Bitter Water soldiers who were already outside of the camp, the soldiers in the camp could not leave at all.
The darkness was melted by the light. Faerun had just finished chanting a spell. Twelve scrolls levitated around Faerun, and these scrolls all opened simultaneously. When Lex saw this scene, she covered her mouth to prevent herself from shouting.
Saleen was also staring blankly at Faerun with his mouth agape. Using the Figaro formula, a person could arrange their magic scrolls and open them sequentially. Saleen himself could control twelve Grade 1 magic scrolls, but would not be able to control twelve Grade 3 magic scrolls.
Faerun was burning away his own life. Faerun had not hesitated to discard his own life when facing an envoy of god. He wanted to unleash all of his potential to kill that youthful envoy of god with long golden hair.
Genesis managed to disperse all of the darkness and was about to say something when he saw the shocking scene. Without any delay, Genesis started saying a prayer loudly. “Glorious lord, my father, please allow me to use your strength…”
Genesis’ voice could not be heard as the twelve scrolls opened up and twelve fireballs rocketed towards the sky. These were the purest fireballs Saleen had ever seen in his entire life. He could not even tell what grades they were of. There were trails of pale green flames burning vacuums into the air.
Saleen remembered Faerun’s words – a mage who only knew how to cast fireballs was not a good mage. But in this situation, Faerun looked very somber. He had used a simple Fireball spell in order to fully utilize the power of the fire element.
The twelve fireballs kept expanding as they rocketed upwards, and each fireball expanded to a diameter of more than one meter. The fireballs were ascending at a slow speed, and as they absorbed the strength of the fire elements from the surrounding atmosphere, their diameters quickly approached two meters. Faerun’s face could be seen extremely clearly on all of the fireballs.
Genesis had never expected the mages from the Qin Empire to be so brutal as to sacrifice themselves to kill their enemies. The fireballs were now fully loaded with the essence of Faerun. Even if Genesis escaped to the ends of the earth, the fireballs would still be able to kill him. Moreover, the further the fireballs travelled, the stronger their damage would be. The sky of darkness that had occurred earlier had only been a cover for Faerun to make his necessary preparations.
Saleen was even more horrified than Genesis. Saleen had studied the Gift of Life before, so he knew exactly what Faerun was trying to do. Faerun had channeled all of the life energy inside of him into the fireballs. As long as the fireballs themselves were not destroyed, they would continue to burn until all life was drained from Faerun.
But before that happened, the fireballs would pursue their targets closely.
There were countless ways for sorcerers to fight aggressively. And Faerun’s method was the one which many sorcerers were opposed to. That was because it required the sorcerer to sacrifice their life. Regardless of whether the spell succeeded or not, the sorcerer was doomed.
Saleen felt as though something was stuck in his chest as anger and sadness overwhelmed him. Even though Faerun had continuously given Saleen advice, Saleen had never called him “teacher” even once. Saleen felt that his life had been the most comfortable during the time he lived in the Bitter Water Prefecture. He had not needed to worry about going hungry or enemies appearing. Furthermore, there were many mages like him who had kept him company and whom he had learned magic with.
Lex had supplied him with the consumables he needed for magic practice while Faerun had patiently provided him with guidance.
All of that was going to end today. Saleen knew what an envoy of god entailed. A envoy of god was not merely a Grade 9 occupation. An envoy of god was also able to temporarily utilize the powers of the glorious lord. This would enable the person to conserve almost all of his power, and was way better than a witcher spider fused with six pieces of dragon magic nuclei because the envoy had an nearly unlimited supply of energy.
That was why even though an envoy of god possessed the same capabilities as a Grade 9 mage, their job was regarded as a Grade 10 career. In the short period of time that the envoy tapped into god’s power, they could cast divine spells freely.
It was difficult for Faerun’s magic to kill an envoy of god Even if Lex made a breakthrough now, she would only be a Grade 6 mage, and there was still a large gap to a sorcerer. Thus, she would not be able to harm Genesis at all.
Saleen was expressionless and took out his family badge. Genesis was looking down on them from the skies, so Saleen would not stand a chance. Saleen only needed a short moment of contact to drain the scumbag of his energy, but he could not fly, so it was impossible for that to happen.
Faerun stood in his spot silently. He had already lost his life, but he would not collapse. The twelve fireballs were approaching Genesis and the faces on the fireballs possessed a ferocious look. Genesis’ eyes were looking in different directions, and he sang a prayer softly. Then, a blanket of thick light encompassed his body as the fireballs that carried Faerun’s determination smashed into him.
The twelve fireballs fused together and engulfed Genesis. Divine Protection was the Holy See’s toughest divine spell. Since Genesis had borrowed god’s strength, he would not be harmed for the time being. However, the fireballs were burning with life, so even Divine Protection would not be able to block them. Every inch of Genesis’ skin, flesh, intestines, and skeleton felt as though they were burning. Even though it was just a hallucination, it felt very real.
The two white deacons that stood beside Genesis had long since escaped, having been scared out of their wits. Even in their wildest dreams, they would never have expected a Grade 7 sorcerer to possess such immense power. Just a tiny bit of contact with that fireball would cause them to be totally incinerated.
The fireball continued to burn. The light that enveloped the camp was still present, and Saleen knew that the envoy of god was still alive, or else the light would have disappeared. However, there was a time limit to which Genesis could borrow god’s strength As long as Faerun’s life was not fully exhausted, the fireball would keep burning and Genesis’ soul would eventually be destroyed.
In the process of sacrificing his life, Faerun had boosted his power to that of a Grade 8 mage, and these twelve fireballs belonged to the realm of Grade 9 magic.
Almost every mage knew how to cast the Fireball spell. But in Faerun’s hands, this spell was unparalleled.
The mages that were in the camp stared blankly at the sky. All of them had the same emotions as Saleen. There was anger in their sadness, and within that sadness was pride.
But the angriest of them all was Genesis. The fools from the Pivotal Council had come to assassinate Lex. He had known that they would fail, so he had not bothered helping them, wanting to capture Lex alive so that he could hold the Qin Emperor hostage. But Genesis had never expected a mere Grade 7 sorcerer to be so aggressive and wield such strange magic.
Genesis could only tap into god’s power for an hour. Even if the fireball did not last that long, he would still sustain serious injuries. Furthermore, Picasso was not his subordinate, and Picasso had been forced to lead the way. Fycro must have been fuming. It was possible that arrogant fellow would take the opportunity to kill him if Picasso was seriously injured.
Genesis had defied the Pope’s will by coming to Holy Rock City, so many people would support Fycro if he decided to kill him. Hence, he had no choice but to use the taboo divine spell.
When Genesis thought of that spell, he began singing a prayer while trapped in that huge ball of fire.
“God, you say you are my messenger, my compassion, my hymn, my sword. You lead your followers through darkness towards the heavens. Those who believe in you will become the new followers while those who obstruct you will rot. I give you the majesty of god, and in my name, execute god’s punishment.”
Lex stared unwaveringly at the sky as the bright blue fireball slowly split open and a bright stream of light descended from the sky. Wails could be heard from within the fireball.
Lex raised her left hand and said, “Shinra!”
The god’s ring on Lex’s slender, white finger exploded in a myriad of colored rays, forming a gigantic shield. The shield provided protection over a radius of more than ten meters. There were not even gaps between her feet and the soil.
The Grade 9 fireball was destroyed by god’s punishment and twelve different souls screamed in pain at the same time. The spear from god’s punishment struck the colorful shield directly. Saleen felt himself sink into the soil and fell into total darkness.
The airtight shield was pushed forcefully into the ground and its speed of descent was faster than what magic could achieve. Then, the spear suddenly split into two, and one shot into the air directly at Genesis, who was under Divine Protection.
“Your Excellency!” the two white deacons exclaimed at the same time. They could not believe that god’s punishment could be replicated and even had backlash. But hidden in Picasso’s voice was a hint of surprise. Even if Genesis did not die, he would still be gravely injured since he had been struck by god’s punishment. Therefore, Picasso was safe for now. When Picasso thought of that, he then shouted to the other white deacon, “Quick, save him!”
The spear easily broke Divine Protection and penetrated Genesis’ abdomen, creating a huge wound. Genesis fell towards the ground. The white deacons gave chase and caught his body in midair. On the ground, countless Grade 3 and Grade 4 mages cast their attack spells at the trio. The white deacons did not dare to retaliate, simply using a divine spell to protect themselves and escaping towards the sky.
With Genesis’ strength, he could have easily massacred the bunch of mages. However, if he was injured, he would not be able to protect Picasso. After all, Picasso was Fycro’s subordinate, and he had taken Picasso with him. Given Fycro’s temper, he would not let the matter slide so easily.
The colorful shield produced by the god’s ring continued protecting Saleen and the others, and kept sinking into the ground.
Their surroundings were in total darkness. Suddenly, there was vigorous shaking beneath their feet. Saleen used the Fluorescence spell to light up the area and discovered that he had landed in desolate wilderness. Aside from Nailisi and Sika, there were only two other swordsmen with Lex and Saleen.
What kind of place was this! Saleen looked up, but could only see a patch of grey.
