A Guide to Farming in a Mobile City

Ch. 139

Chapter 139: Heavenly Road Plan!

"So this is the Red Ridge Zone, is it? Heath。"Viktor said slowly."Your speed is far beyond what I imagined。"

Heath gave a slight nod, placing one hand over his shoulder in salute.

"With such a heavy responsibility on my shoulders, I dare not slack off。"

"To keep things brief, let’s talk about this operation plan。"Viktor waved his hand."From which direction do you intend to launch the attack? By sea, by land, or by air。"

Heath immediately fell into contemplation.

The northern and southern parts of the Western Wasteland Continent were separated by the Letun Mountains, also known as the Plateau Zone.

This mountain range was like a natural moat, cutting off most communication and contact between the north and south of the Western Wasteland Continent.

The only ways through it were:

Airborne Mobile Cities.

Mobile Cities traveling the long sea route along the coastline.

Underground-digging Mobile Cities.

And occasionally appearing Wormholes capable of instantly transporting across thousands of miles.

As the Supreme Commander of the human forces in the Western Wasteland Continent, Heath could mobilize enormous forces at his disposal.

First of all, the Mobile Cities belonging to the Apocalypse Sect and Titan Throne in the northern part of the Western Wasteland Continent were all under his command.

Secondly, Mobile Cities from various zones across the Western Wasteland Continent’s human forces were also actively participating.

Based on estimates, Heath could deploy more than 80 Tier 2 Mobile Cities of various types in this operation.

After discussions between both sides, the allowable equipment level for deployment was Tier 3.

"Tier 3?"Heath slowly nodded.

As long as they were equipped with Tier 3 Cannons, Tier 3 Flying Vehicles, Tier 3 Land Combat Vehicles, Tier 3 Heavy Machine Guns, and Tier 3 Firearms, the human side could sweep through the Zombie Civilization with unstoppable momentum.

The pressure on him immediately lightened considerably.

After some contemplation—

First, Heath eliminated the option of taking the air route.

Although traveling by air could bypass geographical barriers and directly cross the Letun Mountains into the southern part of the Western Wasteland Continent,

Airborne modifications were an enormous undertaking. Unlike waterborne modifications, they required a complete overhaul of an entire Mobile City.

Moreover, with over 80 Tier 2 Mobile Cities involved this time, the scale of the project was simply overwhelming.

Next, the land route was also not very viable.

The Letun Mountains completely severed the north and south of the Western Wasteland Continent, and crossing them required Plateau Climbing Modifications.

While Plateau Climbing Modifications were several times faster than Airborne Modifications, the speed of crossing the plateau was still extremely slow.

After thoroughly weighing all this, Heath slowly spoke.

"This time, we’ll take the sea route。"

He then presented his plan to Viktor.

The human-side Mobile Cities of the Western Wasteland Continent would assemble in a coastal area in the west, and then all undergo Waterborne Driving Modifications together.

This mighty force would then accelerate along the coastline, reaching the Basin Region in the southern part of the Western Wasteland Continent.

Immediately after, all Mobile Cities would switch back to land-driving mode and push straight from the Basin Region into the Eternal Night Zone where the Zombie Civilization was located.

As he thought, Heath gently nodded.

This was the most reliable and feasible plan he could come up with.

However, Viktor shook his head.

"This plan isn’t bad, but I still think something is missing。"

Hearing this, Heath’s eyes immediately lit up.

"Lord Viktor, it seems you might have a better idea?"

After coughing violently a few times, Viktor slowly reclined his chair, revealing a map of the Western Wasteland Continent.

Under Heath's expectant gaze, he gently placed his hand on the Letun Mountains that spanned between the north and south.

"This time, we’re going by land。"

He smiled.

"But we won’t be climbing the plateau together as a group。"

Hearing this, Heath was initially puzzled.

But as he looked at Cardinal Bishop’s smile, he seemed to understand, and his pupils slowly widened.

"You don’t mean..."

Viktor nodded.

"Yes, we’re opening the mountain。"

All Engineering-type Mobile Cities under the human side in the northern Western Wasteland Continent would be assembled. Starting from the edge of the Red Ridge Zone at the foot of the Letun Mountains, they would carve out a plateau corridor connecting the north and south of the Western Wasteland Continent through massive engineering operations.

The human-side Mobile Cities would surge southward through this corridor. They would begin from the Field Zone and push southward all the way to the Eternal Night Zone.

"This, this—"

Heath, who was always steady and composed, suddenly found himself at a loss for words.

The plan proposed by Viktor was simply too grand.

Just imagining the imposing sight of Mobile Cities breaking open the mountain stirred him greatly.

But after the initial excitement, he immediately realized something.

"Lord Viktor, the Letun Mountains stretch for two thousand kilometers。"He hesitated.

Viktor gave a faint smile.

"It’s just 2,000 kilometers!"

"With the capabilities of Tier 2 Engineering-type Mobile Cities, they can carve out 5 to 10 kilometers of road per day in the Plateau Zone。"

"This time, we can deploy over 10 Tier 2 Engineering-type Cities from the north, plus an even larger number of Tier 1 Engineering-type Cities。"

"In one day, we can open up over 100 kilometers of road in the Plateau Zone. Within a month, the corridor connecting north and south will be fully completed!"

Heath couldn’t help but take a deep breath.

One had to admit, as a Cardinal Bishop, Viktor had a much farther vision than him.

Following Viktor’s train of thought, he understood the subsequent implications.

This corridor through the Letun Mountains wasn’t just for facilitating the human-side offensive.

At present, nearly the entire southern Western Wasteland Continent had fallen — the Basin Region, Cretaceous Zone, Field Zone, and Gobi Zone were all occupied by the Zombie Civilization.

This meant that the powers originally in these zones had been reshuffled.

Once the Zombie Civilization was annihilated, these areas would become power vacuums.

At that time, the human side and the monstrous side would fiercely compete again.

By holding the north-south corridor, the human-side forces could continuously transport power from the north to the south through it — this would grant them an enormous advantage.

Not only that—

Under normal circumstances, the monstrous side would never tolerate the human side opening such a corridor.

But this time was different. The Zombie Civilization had become a severe threat to both the human and monstrous forces in the Western Wasteland Continent, and world-class organizations from both sides had to step in.

Naturally, the monsters understood the human side's intention in constructing this corridor for offensive purposes.

Perhaps they would tacitly agree, or perhaps... the human side would need to make concessions.

After sorting through all of this, Heath couldn’t help but sincerely exclaim:

"As expected of a Cardinal Bishop, truly a master strategist。"

Seeing his expression, Viktor gently smiled.

"You’re a promising young man. Perhaps one day you could become a Cardinal Bishop too。"

A young man?

Heath was momentarily stunned.

In fact, he was already 45 years old this year.

But from Viktor’s perspective, he did seem like a"young man"。

Snapping out of his thoughts, he couldn’t help but look toward Viktor.

This Cardinal Bishop was already very, very old.

Realizing this, Heath suddenly felt startled.

He had heard Viktor’s speeches when he was four or five years old. Forty years had passed, and Viktor was still here.

How old was this Cardinal Bishop now?

Seeing Heath’s hesitant look, Viktor calmly spoke.

"Me? I’m almost 100 years old, probably。"

Heath was briefly stunned.

Viktor casually picked up a cigarette and took a leisurely puff.

"Don’t act so surprised. Among the Cardinal Bishops, there are quite a few old monsters like me. I’m actually the youngest of them all。"

Heath nodded, taking a deep breath to steady his thoughts.

Looking at Viktor, he asked the question he most wanted to ask.

"Lord Viktor, how will the monstrous side step in?"

Heath had already made some estimations in his mind.

The human side would deploy over 80 Tier 2 Mobile Cities this time.

And the monstrous side would certainly bring even more.

Viktor took a drag from his cigarette and responded—

The monsters would use their sea forces and take the sea route.

They would land from the southernmost Desert Zone of the Western Wasteland Continent and travel northward, crossing the Desert Zone and Wasteland Zone, before arriving at the Eternal Night Zone.

Heath felt reassured upon hearing this.

By comparison, the regions the monstrous side had to traverse were one more than those of the human side—giving them a longer journey.

At the same time, he furrowed his brows.

"That’s not right, Lord Viktor。"

"According to the Silence Agreement, both sides are only allowed to mobilize forces within the Western Wasteland Continent. Why are the monsters allowed to come from the sea?"

Viktor gently waved his hand.

"Article 53 of the Continental Agreement states that any forces within 500 nautical miles of a continent’s coastline are considered part of that continent’s forces,"he replied calmly.

"The Continental Agreement?"A trace of surprise flashed in Heath’s eyes.

"Yes, it’s an agreement reached between the human and monstrous sides long ago, predating even the Silence Agreement. It originally had only thirteen articles, gradually expanded over hundreds of years,"Viktor answered.

"You’re still too young. There’s much you don’t understand yet。"

Seeing Heath’s flickering gaze and hesitation to speak, he smiled.

"If you want to know more, climb higher。"

Heath froze. He hadn’t expected the words he once said to his subordinates would now be spoken back to him by Viktor.

He nodded, then fell into rapid thought.

This time, the monstrous side would mobilize all forces within 500 nautical miles of the continental coastline.

Combined, it would be an astonishing number.

As he pondered, his brows furrowed tightly.

At sea, the human side had always been at a disadvantage.

There were far more monsters in the ocean than on land.

He couldn’t help but press his temples and sat down heavily.

There was no denying the sheer amount of information packed into this conversation.

Even someone as quick-witted and decisive as Heath found it hard to digest.

While resting, Heath suddenly noticed something.

His pupils dilated instantly, and his heart pounded wildly.

"The Wasteland Zone! Lord Viktor! The monstrous side will pass through the Wasteland Zone!"

He abruptly stood up.

"This time, that world-class monstrous organization is definitely going to step in. They will certainly take action against the suppression devices in the Wasteland Zone!"

Seeing Viktor remain unmoved, taking a calm drag of his cigarette, Heath was first stunned—then suddenly realized something.

"Lord Viktor, don’t tell me—"

"Yes。"

Viktor answered faintly.

"This is the compromise made by the human side。"

This time, the world-class monstrous organization tacitly agreed to let the human side carve out the plateau corridor across the Letun Mountains.

And in exchange, the human side must not interfere with the monstrous side’s actions against the suppression devices in the Wasteland Zone.

Heath slumped back into his chair, a wave of helplessness surging from deep within.

This time, as the commander of the human side in the Western Wasteland Continent, he could summon all human forces in the northern part of the continent—an almost omnipotent figure in outsiders’ eyes.

But he was still just a pawn in the strategic game played between world-class organizations.

The elderly man calmly smoking before him—he was the one truly holding the pieces.

"That’s all I have to say. Go and carry it out, Heath。"

Viktor waved his hand.

Seeing Heath nod and rise from the chair again, revealing a trace of weariness, the old man smiled once more.

"One day, you too will become a piece-holder。"

"Besides, this plan is called Skyroad。"

"Skyroad, huh?"Heath savored the term.

"Yes。"

Viktor nodded.

"In the old world, there was an ancient proverb passed down by Easterners。"

"When people are united, they can move mountains。"

"Only by enduring countless hardships can one see things through to the end。"

The old man stood up, speaking with resounding conviction.

"If there is a mountain before us, we move the mountain. If the waters surge, we tame the waters. If the sky collapses, we patch the sky!"

As the Apocalypse Sect issued a general mobilization order in the northern Western Wasteland Continent, the northern human forces began a mighty movement.

Tier 2 Mobile Cities from various northern regions surged toward the Red Ridge Zone.

At the edge of the Red Ridge Zone, adjacent to the Letun Mountains, several Tier 2 Engineering-type Mobile Cities had already arrived.

These steel behemoths slowly advanced across the plateau, using their engineering treads to compact the ground along the way.

The mechanical arms and work claws on their decks extended in sequence—some crushing obstructing rock layers, some hoisting away massive roadside obstacles, and others sweeping shattered debris to the sides.

With a rumbling roar, high-speed steam cranes reached the deck edges via mobile platforms. Their thick steel frames dug deep into the ground, brass boilers spouting white mist in the cold wind, driving the winches and pulley systems. The steel cables tightened, screeching sharply as they hoisted away multi-ton boulders along the way.

Mechanical claws operated at high frequency, tearing apart rock masses from the mountain walls. Each operation spewed high-pressure steam from their pipes, condensing into roiling clouds in the frigid plateau air.

The clicking of interlocking gears, the shrieking release of steam, the groaning of steel cables, and the dull rumble of rocks shattering under the mechanical claws—

The entire plateau echoed with the thunderous roar of metal.

Having finished his call, Heath stood on the deck of the Mobile City, gazing intently at the scene before him, his emotions surging uncontrollably.

In the old era, to carve a 2,000-kilometer corridor across a plateau, humans would have needed to mobilize over 100,000 workers, thousands of excavators, bulldozers, pavers, and rollers.

Additionally, they would’ve needed thousands of trucks to haul debris, millions of tons of paving materials, explosives, and steel.

The construction period would have taken 5 to 10 years.

But now, with the Mobile Cities at work, this corridor would be completed in a month.

As he thought this, Heath’s chest heaved violently, emotions welling up within.

In his ears, the old man’s bold words echoed once more.

"It’s just 2,000 kilometers!"
