Cain was left wide eyed, stunned that Jayden hadn't even hesitated for a second when it came to putting her life on the line with the contract. She didn't say it outright but Cain now knew for certain that she would rather die than betray him.
Even Gaius was stunned by such a display of loyalty. Of course he had disciples who had used their lives as collateral to prove themselves. The difference though was that those who offered Gaius their lives had been on deaths door had nothing else to offer or were going to die soon anyways.
Jayden was unique in that she had a choice but chose to do so anyways. Cain wouldn't admit it openly but he had developed a soft spot for the wolf girl and Gaius couldn't blame him. From the moment she had shared a bed with him, she had done whatever she could that would benefit him.
She had revealed her greatest secret to the school and risked discrimination and disciplinary measures for hiding her identity yet she didn't hesitate to stand before Cain as herself. Such loyalty was beyond rare, it was practically unheard of.
However, the lovely atmosphere that Cain and Jayden were slowly developing was unceremoniously broken by a fake cough.
Slightly startled, Cain turned his head to see Maris, Mira and Kiyomi were waiting for them. Maris' had her arms crossed in front of her chest, averting her gaze from Jayden's and Cain's public display of affection.
Mira had an awkward smile on her face, sweat and soot still clinging to her skin as her shorts barely covered her ass and her mid riff was fully exposed, showcasing her toned stomach from her constant practice forging.
It was Kiyomi who had spoken though and broke the silence with the cough and a smile. "While I can appreciate the open display of affection, I would like to assume that you called us here for something actually important and not for something like showing off your love."
Her eyes narrowed into crescent moons as her smile shifted, her tone took on a flirtatious quality.
"I won't judge those with the fetish of voyeurism, I must say that I would prefer to participate over being a spectator."
Kiyomi then winked at Cain who was caught off guard by her choice of words. His response however was to clear his throat before he fully faced the three girls of his team. Jayden also had a blush on her face as she directed an annoyed glare at Kiyomi for the unnecessary remarks.
Maris who was growing more and more agitated as the teasing continued finally burst, her tail slamming against the ground as she growled "Enough! What did you actually call us here for Cain!"
Mira felt a bit complicated as she scratched her cheek. While she did agree with Maris about wanting to know why Cain had gathered them, she was also not sure why Maris was being so agitated. In all the time that she had known the dragonkin girl, she had always come across as calm and sophisticated when outside of a fight.
But now she was acting like an embarrassed young lady who felt uncomfortable seeing someone. Mira glanced between Cain and Maris repeatedly as her brain tried to make the puzzle pieces fit. Yet just as soon as that thought came to her mind, she dismissed it just as fast.
She was positive that she was just imagining it. Maris wasn't that kind of girl. It must be because Cain had called them out late at night and she was just cranky. That had to be it.
Cain glanced at Maris before he closed his eyes and quickly recomposed himself. "I know this will be hard to believe but I have a way to make each of you stronger. Howver before I do that, I would like something from you..."
Kiyomi let out a soft laugh before her face twisted in a look of disgust. "So you really were after our bodies? What a shock... For a second, I thought you weren't like the other men around here!"
She then turned on her heels and made to leave the training ground with determined steps. Cain was surprised at her sudden change in talking but he quickly called out to her. "No. That is not what I am asking from you. Or any of you actually."
Jayden nodded her head "Cain is telling the truth. He is not the kind of man to make a move on you first . If you want him, you have to take the initiative. Push him down and claim him!"
The training ground was left silent as everyone blanched at Jayden's words. Cain in particular froze as a blush crept up his cheeks as he became incredibly embarrassed at what Jayden was saying so blatantly.
"Hey....Jayden?" He called out without looking at her, his entire body stiff like a rock.
"Yes~?" Jayden asked with a tilt of her head, expecting praise for defending him so thoroughly.
"Just....Just shut up. You are not helping talking like that!" Cain practically shouted in annoyance. Jayden looked genuinely shocked at his words, her tail and ears drooping in response. However, this time Cain couldn't bring himself to comfort her.
Don't look at her. Be strong me! You can't fold here!
While thinking that, he managed to bring the subject back to the topic at hand.
"I have what I can only describe as trauma when it comes to trust. The people I had trusted my whole life betrayed me and left me for dead. I honestly don't think any of you would do that...at least for now. What I can offer is something that is most definitely not known by most of the world. However if I give it to you, I want you to form a contract with me that you will not betray me. You will put something on the line as part of the vow. The more value that your vow has, the more you will receive in return for the contract..."
Cain could see the girls frowning at the implication. What was he asking them to put on the line?
