Rivers of the Night

Chapter 592: Mirror (1)

The concept seemed simple in Theron's mind, and he had already begun to work on it the moment he had the thought, but to the world, it was probably an act of complete madness.

Right this moment, as Theron's body was progressing to Celestial Resonance, and he was likely forming a Dark Mana Resonance even more powerful than that, he couldn't have been more in tune with the world if he tried.

The trouble was that he was in tune with Dark Mana, not Water Mana. That was why the two Laws he comprehended mapped onto Dark Mana instead.

What he planned to do was take advantage of this heightened sense to rebuild his Silver and Bronze Laws.

He had already failed to rebuild the mirror of his Gold Laws. But Bronze and Silver Laws should be easier by comparison—especially since the Laws he would be constructing now would be for his Dark Mana.

Once his two new Mandates were completed, he would have a perfect mirror image.

Then, at the instant his Celestial Body finished forming and his senses toward Water Mana were at their highest, he could use his comprehensions to complete the mirror image.

At that point, not only would this not be a mistake, it would be a boon among boons.

In an instant, he would have four Mandates, each one formed from a Gold Law, three Silver Laws, and nine Bronze Laws.

From Theron's understanding, at least in this corner of the universe, this was entirely unheard of.

The number of Laws one used didn't necessarily dictate the power of the Mandate in the end. Instead, it was the synergy between the Laws that decided this.

That said, there was a limit to how powerful a Mandate could become if it had too few Laws or if they weren't of a high enough caliber.

According to the experts Theron had spoken to, the most powerful Mandate in this sector of the universe was the Mandate of Ice and Heart.

It was a Mandate that allowed the disciples of the Hall of Ice and Heart to use the calm of their hearts to chill their surroundings. In fact, this could be said to be a perfect one-to-one comparison with Theron's own Chilling Mandate, as the concept was the exact same… at least from a distance.

The Mandate of Ice and Heart came in three sub-categories, and depending on the level of disciple, one would be chosen.

They labeled their disciples as Pillar, Star, and God based on these three.

A Pillar Disciple was able to complete the weakest form of the Mandate of Ice and Heart. They fused together three Bronze Laws to accomplish this.

A Star Disciple was able to complete the middle form of the Mandate of Ice and Heart. They fused together three Bronze Laws and a Silver Law to accomplish this.

The God Disciples were able to truly complete the Mandate of Ice and Heart. They were able to fuse together six Bronze Laws and a Silver Law.

It should be understood that even Pillar Disciples were greatly nurtured by the Hall of Ice and Heart. It was said to be incredibly difficult to fuse together this sheer number of Laws to begin with.

And yet, Theron was so far beyond this.

In fact, it wasn't quite just a matter of nine Bronze Laws, three Silver Laws, and one Gold Law.

The reason Theron's Mandates were so powerful was because they not only combined well on their own, but the Mandates themselves interacted with one another!

As far as Theron could tell, it might very well be possible to find sects and organizations out in the world that had Mandates fused with as many or even more Laws than his own. In fact, one of the experts he had spoken to even vaguely implied the existence of a power that fused as many as three Gold Laws into a single Mandate. Any one of their disciples could crush a disciple of the Hall of Ice and Heart with a single breath.

However… a pair of Mandates working together?

Maybe even if you left this surrounding galaxy cluster, you wouldn't be able to find such a thing.

And now Theron was trying to make it four.

No. He wasn't trying to make it four—he would make it four.

His aura thrummed.

One after another, he was able to think of hundreds, thousands, even tens of thousands of ways to map the Laws he had already comprehended onto his Dark Mana.

However, Theron dismissed them one after another.

The Laws were esoteric and hard to grasp, usually. They were named vaguely and could be applied trillions of ways—probably an infinite number.

However, what Theron wanted wasn't just Laws that worked for Dark Mana. He wanted them to be perfect mirrors of his Water Mana, and as he worked, piecing one together after another, he found himself becoming stronger and stronger by leaps and bounds.

The Law of Expansion, the Law of Density…

The Law of Reflection, the Law of Intensity…

The Law of Pressure… of Release… of Friction…

Some Laws worked better than others. Some seemed like they shouldn't even be in the same room together with Dark Mana.

How could you apply the Law of Friction to Dark Mana, for example?

But then again, how could you apply the Law of Friction to Water Mana?

Wasn't it just a matter of looking at things from a microscope? Of not just observing the whole, but the sum of its parts as well?

He could use the Law of Friction any number of ways with Dark Mana. In fact, he could use it to make it easier to execute [Shadow Flow].

While it sounded counterintuitive, the easier the Dark Mana could latch onto a coming attack, the easier time it would have dispersing it. If the Mana flowed too easily, the attack would just burst right through. But if it had just a little bit of friction latching on…

This was still not a perfect mirror to his Chilling and Heated Path, though.

He needed something deeper, something more clever…
