Rivers of the Night

Chapter 590: Absolute and Unrestrained (1)

Theron stared out into the distance almost blankly. He wasn't actively thinking right now, but more so, instead, feeling.

The Mana in the region pooled and flowed over him, every tweak and change feeling so natural.

Every time it did, a new part of his body twitched as though recalling the section of the veined passageways that must have caused it.

He had been doing exactly this for a long while now, actually. But these vein patterns felt like their own three-body problem, their own system of chaos. Even if he could deduce what caused the change after sensing it, he couldn't deduce where the next one would originate from.

And unlike the Dark River, there was no larger system acting on it to make it obedient—

Theron's eyes suddenly flashed wildly. It almost looked as though two torches had blazed to life from within, an odd aura radiating out from him in all directions.

'That's it…'

Sitting in the middle of the vein system, Theron felt that it was chaotic and unpredictable. And yet, that ball of Dark Mana above his head was anything but.

It was impossibly stable. So long as no one disrupted it from the outside, it would never move. And unless the person disrupting it was of a cultivation level approaching or in the Dome of Heaven Realm, it would remain unmoved afterward.

Wasn't this situation an exact replication of what was going on with the Dark River?

But here… it almost felt like the vice versa.

The Dark River had a predictable end pattern because this Haven of Dark Mana was acting upon it, turning what should have otherwise been a chaotic system into a predictable one.

Here, however, the Haven would remain stable until something stronger than it turned it chaotic.

They were like two sides of the same coin, one opposing the other. One pushing one to stabilize, while the other pushed it toward chaos.

A yin and yang, a dance of chaos and order.

The more Theron thought about it, the more his eyes glowed. His body drummed with life, and his Dark Mana stirred within his body all on its own.

Dark Mana was so fascinating in the way it worked. To be able to deconstruct and reconstruct things, to change their fundamental foundation to tweak it into something that was more useful to yourself…

It was a Mana with an incredible amount of potential if it was allowed to grow.

Theron had never thought so deeply about it because it was a Mana that he didn't have a fondness for. Even though everyone said Water Mancers were the weakest of combatants, he wanted to take the strength and bloodline his parents had given him to the peak of the world, where he would finally lay to rest the revenge that had been bubbling up inside of him.

However, at this moment, he was enraptured by Dark Mana, a comprehension slowly brewing, changing, and morphing within him.

And as he thought about that balance of chaos and order, his Chilling and Heated Mandate Paths seemed to respond as well, the two dancing, intertwining, forcing one another toward calm and then toward agitation much the same.

It felt like every little aspect of his life was being reflected here, and as he fell into those, his comprehension deepened further and further, one step after another.

The Chilling Law of Hollowing fell into Theron's grasp without his conscious thought.

Hollowing, the state of nothingness—maybe the truest state of cold that there was. It was said that cold wasn't a substance unto itself, but rather the representation of the absence of heat, the absence of chaos, the absence of life itself.

However, this easily flipped in Theron's mind.

He had learned about the Heat Death of the Universe, about how as things tended toward chaos, Existence itself was slowly dying.

In that case, the Law of Hollowing wasn't just a matter of emptiness, but it could also represent utmost potential—a state where life could bloom with just the slightest touch…

Forming the Law of Filling.

The opposite side of the coin, a Silver Resonance Law of the Heated Path, so naturally came to Theron following this that he once again hardly put a mind to it.

It came to him like a stream, blending over his body and flooding him with realization and comprehension.

That was precisely what Heat Death was—a state of too much, of energies taken for granted and left unrecycled, a state that left the universe with so much abundance and yet no ability to use it at all. A state of greed.

Chi. Chi. Chi.

The Law of Freezing and the Law of Burning were both the easiest and somehow the most difficult Theron grasped. The concepts he was grappling with right now were so far beyond them that he barely clipped at their edges.

While his Law of Filling and Law of Silence, as well as his Law of Hollowing and Law of Eruption, immediately reached great perfection, the Law of Freezing and the Law of Burning were barely grasped, in a great irony of all ironies.

And yet, even as Theron's body began to morph and change, progressing toward a true Celestial Body, he still sat there in a complete daze.

The Law of Absolute Calm. The Law of Unrestrained Fury.

Two sides of the coin—two Gold Laws that, when appearing in the world, manifested their strength in ways the world couldn't fathom.

Theron could finally see them, feel them—these Gold Laws that would leave the world in a state of absolute shock should they appear.

And here he was, staring at them, feeling like they were so very close, and yet so very far away at the same time.

His body shuddered, the masses of Dark Mana in the region accelerating around him.

The greatest irony of it all was that these were not the two Laws Theron grasped. Instead, he grasped two completely different Laws.

The Law of Absolute Chaos. The Law of Unrestrained Order.

BOOM.
