Rivers of the Night

Chapter 536: A Clean Getaway?

A broken parchment paper with pieces aged and withered away appeared in Theron's palm.

'This really is it.'

He knew that he had seen the name Tracing Cloud Resonance Herb before. It had been faintly tugging on the edge of his mind. But he hadn't done a deep dive into the spatial ring and had only casually swept over many things before landing on the dagger.

'This is a formula? For what?'

Theron's eyes narrowed and he tried to see through the worn lettering at the top before he finally made out the words from the chipped pieces of bristled ink.

… Accumulating Cloud…

'This is the main ingredient to this ancient pill?'

Theron had no idea that the Tracing Cloud Resonance Herb was a key ingredient to both the Whisking Mana Pill and the Accumulating Cloud Pill. But he didn't need to be a genius to know that this pill formula was something quite valuable.

Unfortunately, it was incomplete.

It seemed to be missing one or two of the ingredients needed. Definitely at least one, judging by the diagonal cut on the bottom.

Theron's eyes and senses were luckily sharp enough to make out the rest of the faded words. But he knew too little about this to recognize them all. In fact, the Resonance Herbs he did recognize, he couldn't be sure if they were the same ones he was familiar with either.

Even so, he carefully put the ancient pill formula away, and then stored all of the pills and Tracing Cloud Resonance Herbs away as well.

Finally, he entered the third and final vault.

This vault was the largest of them all. If the first vault of Soul Lamps was the smallest, being only about ten meters deep and five wide, the second vault was about double that size, and this third vault was double that of the second in size.

From the second vault, Theron gained about ten thousand of each of the Whisking Mana and Supplementing Flesh Pills, an invaluable haul. Plus, he had 250 stalks of Tracing Cloud Resonance Herbs.

The Herbs had the stems of what almost looked like green onions, but they had a budding flower head that almost looked like small grey-silver dandelions. A single stalk had eight to a dozen doses of medicinal efficacy as well.

It could be said that this haul of Tracing Cloud Resonance Herbs could probably make over 3,000 pills assuming 100% success—which was more of a pipe dream than anything else.

This third vault, though…

The wall to the left was completely lined with Mana Crystals. What surprised Theron was that… they didn't seem to have an attribute?

The Mana Crystals he was used to were always of a specific Element or Resonance. He had never seen such… neutral Mana Crystals.

Curious, Theron went over and picked one up, but his expression flickered when it suddenly spontaneously turned from what looked like an opaque salt crystal to a Dark Mana Crystal.

'Did it just… change because of me?'

Theron blinked in confusion, and then realization.

It seemed that these Mana Crystals were like those stem cells he had read about. They could spontaneously turn to anything depending on the situation, forming a pure stream of Mana. But that also meant…

'It can be used for currency…'

There were about 13 million Mana Crystals here. A single one of them was worth millions of gold coins easily—there was no set market price because rarely anyone would exchange the two unless they happened to luck into one.

An herb like the Tracing Cloud Resonance Herb would easily cost a few hundred Mana Crystals for just a single stalk. A pill like the Whisking Mana Pill would cost thousands, though the Supplementing Flesh Pill would cost about half of that, interestingly enough.

For a pill like the Accumulating Cloud Pill, it would easily take tens of thousands to buy just one of them. As for the formula itself? All the wealth here wasn't enough.

Theron swept all of the Mana Crystals into his spatial ring. Patriarch Nightingale himself had another million or so on his person, so Theron came out with 14 million Mana Crystals, a shocking amount of wealth that even an Ascending Cloud Realm expert wouldn't casually walk around with.

He would have to seriously consider how to best safely use this wealth in the future.

It didn't take Theron much effort to learn how to interact with these Mana Crystals without turning them. He just had to restrain his Mana.

The only reason it turned to a Dark Mana Crystal after he touched it was because he was in the process of hiding his affinity right now so he wouldn't be found out too easily.

On the other side of the vault, there seemed to be the Sect's protective treasures.

There was a disk that managed and controlled their Sect Formation, what looked like a data book of all their business holdings and information on spies they had placed in other Sect territories, as well as Cloud Resonance Treasures.

Theron wasn't very interested in the Cloud Resonance Treasures only because they all had Dark Mana characteristics. However, money was money. He wouldn't be able to sell these openly, but these heavily protected treasures of the Sect could easily go for six-figure Mana Crystal amounts.

'Oh?'

Theron's eyes flashed as his gaze landed on one treasure that did catch his attention.

He was truly in great need of something like this.

A flying vessel, one that could actually shrink and increase its size at will. Though, this shrinking only seemed possible when there wasn't someone inside. If it could shrink with someone inside, then it would probably be more valuable than everything else combined.

'Perfect.'

Running this vessel would take probably a hundred or so Mana Crystals a day at full speed, but Theron was wealthy now. He didn't need to worry about such a cost.

After storing it away, Theron practically strolled out of the Nightingale Sect. From start to finish, it seemed that no one realized their Patriarch had died, nor that they had been robbed. And they wouldn't until he was long gone.

Theron was already a long distance from the Sect when he heard Grand Elder Macie's scream. It was so loud that she might have completely shredded her vocal cords apart to reach him in the first place.

However, she was much too far away to do anything. While Theron had seemingly stumbled into a new problem.

Theron's steps cautiously came to a stop, a shadowy figure standing before him…

The Dark Spirit.
