The Bodyguard King’s CEO Wife

Chapter 1021: Base Under Attack

This protective door is made of a special alloy, extremely hard, and unlocked by facial or fingerprint recognition, all to prevent invasion. Ailina was quite annoyed at her own jinx, just mentioning the need for caution, and danger really came. There wasn't anything especially valuable in the base, but there were many classified documents. Most critically, this was their lair. Initially, Ye Shikai ordered the Ghost to start building the base, from site selection to completion, which took two whole months. It seems they need to prepare to relocate.

Thud.

After a dull sound, the protective door completely shut.

"Lock all the doors leading to the base and activate the defense system," Ailina commanded. Some doors could only be manually closed, but with the protective door blocking, there should be enough time. Automatic guns were set up at corners, identifying enemies through thermal imaging.

Bam bam bam bam.

A series of machine-gun sounds echoed, faint screams of people could still be heard. Ailina knew these auto-guns could only hold them off temporarily. The adversaries were well-prepared, likely monitoring movements here for a long time. They planned to strike while the base was vulnerable.

Soul Destroyer was already on a plane, and Ye Shikai and others were far in Chang'an. Beyond the rescue from the Moon God Temple, they had no other option. They couldn't possibly... ask for help from the National Security Bureau.

Thud, thud, thud.

Heavy pounding echoed from the protective door. With each thud, Ailina's heart trembled. The power of the special alloy was supposed to withstand C4 explosives. Yet a single glance at the protective door showed it beginning to deform, making it unclear what kind of creature approached.

"Prepare your weapons," Ailina shouted. Several Hidden Guards laid all the rifles they could find on the ground. Ailina picked one up, tearing a strip from her ceremonial dress. If she knew there would be a battle, she wouldn't have worn this to the base.

"Aim the auto-guns at the protective door," Ailina commanded. Once the door opened, two sets of auto-guns would fire. The self-destruct system was also ready. If they couldn't hold out, the others would retreat through the escape tunnels and wait for Ye Shikai to return and handle it.

Thud, thud, thud.

Witnessing the door denting bit by bit, Ailina felt less tense. Everyone aimed their firearms, waiting for the door to break.

Boom.

Finally, on the fifty-seventh impact, the protective door collapsed with a crash.

"Open fire," Ailina shouted. Bullets cut through the smoke, shooting towards the other side of the door…

Hehehe.

Amidst the smoke and dust, several eerie cries rang out. The doorway was narrow, and twelve guns along with two auto-guns could suppress the entire entrance.

"Someone's coming out," Ailina's sharp eyes noticed. In the smoke, a few shadows emerged, advancing while suppressing gunfire.

"It's the Mothmen," Ailina realized upon seeing the intruders, a chill swiftly spreading down her spine.

.................................…

Bai Qi's Relics.

Ye Shikai was single-handedly dueling the Ghost General, astonishing everyone. Now, no one dared to speak out of turn. Ye Shikai held the copper sword of the Ghost General, engraved with several Great Seal characters. If the Ghost Soldiers had surged forward simultaneously, they might have faced a tough battle. Now thinking about it, ancient warfare can't all have been like this, could it? If a warrior lost a duel, the whole army would collapse.

Continuing their journey, this Bai Qi's Relics appeared to be a tomb palace. Given the title Wu Anjun, it naturally counted as "dukes and marquises." Moreover, relics differed from ordinary tombs. If ancient people's tombs were all relics, it would be an underground palace, an unimaginable concept.

Who knows how Ji Qian's situation is, Ye Shikai thought, walking with a distracted mind.

"Boss, there seems to be a canyon ahead," Ghost pointed ahead. Surely, the path they walked had gotten narrower and narrower. It used to be easy to walk freely, but now even five abreast felt cramped. And indeed, another "grand canyon" lay ahead. How could there be such a spectacle underground? Ye Shikai looked up; it must be at least a hundred meters high, with sheer cliffs unsuited for climbing.

Everyone paused "instinctively." Since ancient times, canyons have been synonymous with "ambush." A canyon was a prime spot for ambushes, offering little chance for those below to assault the heights. Hence the old saying: always observe carefully before entering a canyon, and if one must enter, act swiftly to avoid unforeseen events.

No one wished to take this risk. Everyone exchanged looks, waiting it seemed for someone to take the lead.

"I'll go first, follow me," a cool voice suddenly broke the silence. Ye Shikai turned to see it was Li Yueying speaking up.

"Hmph, I expected more from Yanjing's aristocrats, but it seems they're mere cowards," Li Yueying snorted disdainfully.

"You little girl, such lack of manners," Ji Feng reprimanded, with Ji Tao's face growing coldly sullen as he listened.

"Alright then, since Miss Li is willing, please proceed," Ye Shikai smiled slightly, unperturbed. Walking in front entails being the first to encounter danger. In the world of cultivators, selfishness prevails, and rarely will anyone die for strangers.

Ye Shikai followed closely behind Li Mansion members, with both Netherworld Palace and Chen and Ji families joining in, none daring to relax. The Hidden Guards pointed their guns upwards, ready to shoot any Ghost Soldiers that might appear.

"Kai, we've been in here for several hours," Chen Yuxin noted, checking a mechanical watch, speaking to Ye Shikai.

"The magnetic field in the relics is unusual; even mechanical watches might not be accurate. I estimate it's been four hours," Ye Shikai commented, touching his belly, realizing he was a bit hungry. Perhaps the prior battles had consumed too much energy. Taking a piece of bread from his Storage Ring, he began to eat.

Boom.

Suddenly, a noise from above echoed through the canyon. Ye Shikai's hand jerked in surprise, dropping his bread. Everyone halted, looking up—could this canyon also be an ambush site for Ghost Soldiers?

"Watch out, falling rocks!" someone shouted amidst the crowd. Looking up revealed several boulder-sized rocks plunging from the top of the canyon. Nearly vertical, the descending rocks seemed less to roll down than to crash directly.

Chen Yuxin swung the Chunjun Sword forcefully through the air, its powerful Sword Qi instantly pulverizing a boulder into dust.

"Everyone, quickly retreat from the canyon," Ji Tao shouted, deftly forming a Tai Chi Array in the air. Rocks hitting the array floated down gently like feathers.
