The Goddess of Agriculture—legend says she taught humanity farming and animal husbandry. She oversees grains, planting, harvest, herding, reproduction, and prosperity...
The God of Abundance—with boundless power, he can make the earth fertile, plants flourish, and crops bountiful. Of course, he can also make the earth wither, everything decay, and nothing grow...
The God of Nature—oversees nature itself: wind, rain, thunder, lightning, mountains, rivers, plant growth, animal reproduction...
...
While the Goddess of Love and Beauty was still studying Magic Net videos, the Goddess of Magic's divine realm welcomed its largest gathering of gods ever, including the God of Nature himself—mountain-like in stature, resembling a brown bear with massive horns growing from his head.
"Technology, Magic—why did you summon us all here?" The Goddess of Agriculture looked around at the various gods, major and minor, whose divine authorities were intricately connected to her own. She had some guesses but wasn't entirely sure, though her words already revealed much of her thinking.
The God of Abundance, the God of Nature, and many other gods all turned their attention to Ren. They knew that Technology must have invited them here—Magic's personality wouldn't do this. For all these years, she'd been coldly observing the changes in the world.
Seeing that the dozens of gods he'd invited had all arrived, Ren simply stepped forward. "I've invited you all here to establish the 'Divine Flora and Fauna Research Institute.' If you're interested, you can stay. If you don't leave now, we'll assume you've joined."
"What exactly is this 'Divine Flora and Fauna Research Institute'?" Though the God of Nature was a non-humanoid deity, it didn't affect their normal communication—his voice was just a bit louder.
"As the name suggests, it's an institution to research flora and fauna. More precisely, we'll research plants, animals, and other related technologies that benefit mortals, improving their risk resistance and population capacity, ultimately achieving the goal of expanding the population." Ren didn't hold back, directly explaining his general idea. Of course, this didn't include project details—that would come later.
Even so, the gods present all lit up. Recently, Magic Net videos had indeed been quite helpful to the gods. They each had their own little circles. Gods like Hunting and Love and Beauty were seeing their faith power nearly double. But not every god was having such smooth sailing.
The agricultural knowledge from the Goddess of Agriculture couldn't be said to have no interest—more like it barely got any attention. It seemed only a few nobles were willing to watch. The God of Abundance and other gods were in similar situations. The God of Nature was the only one here with any real gains, since his clerics were elves after all, competing on a different track from other gods. Elves naturally attracted attention... But regardless, their gains were among the lowest. Saying they were anxious would be an understatement.
Other gods kept growing while they seemed stuck in place. Especially remembering the message the God of War transmitted when he fell—that made them even more nervous.
Though Ren's words were simple, they gave the gods hope. Many brightened up. What Ren said was too tempting—increasing crop yields, increasing population... Combined with what Ren had mentioned recently about population explosions, if these gods were the ones feeding such a massive population, then... they didn't dare imagine. Magic Net videos? That was nothing compared to this golden opportunity.
Of course, not every god could fully grasp what these words meant, but in the eyes of many gods present, they didn't need to fully understand what Ren wanted to do—they just needed to follow him. Recently, every god who followed Ren had reaped huge rewards. The only one who took a different path was the God of War, and now—as the strongest god—grass on his grave could probably grow a meter high by now. Besides, big shots like the God of Nature and Goddess of Agriculture were still here. What was there to worry about? Just follow along and do the work, then sit back and eat meat!
And so, in this environment, the Divine Flora and Fauna Research Institute was officially established. All gods present signed a contract that even gods couldn't violate. In the future, any technology developed by the Institute would distribute faith to each god based on contribution. The one with the highest contribution would get naming rights—even naming things like "Abundance No. 1," "Agriculture No. 2," or "Nature No. 3" would be fine.
Naturally, this got approval from many gods. It was fair—the god with the greatest contribution got some extra benefits. At least for the few gods with major divine authorities, this was good news. As for the other gods, being able to get a piece of the pie was already satisfying enough. After all, just participating in projects would get them a share.
After signing the contract, Ren didn't waste words. With a wave of his hand, a light screen appeared before them: "Agriculture in the future won't quite be what you imagine."
"The biggest benefit of agricultural development is naturally explosive population growth. But in this process, it also brings many other benefits—like providing abundant raw materials for the magic-tech industry. So the future directions of our Divine Flora and Fauna Research Institute will be more numerous than you imagine."
"Currently, I believe there are several urgent directions: grains, forage, cotton, vegetables, fruits, livestock, poultry. Grains can reduce starvation frequency and let more people eat their fill. Forage can increase livestock farming rates..."
Listening to Ren's eloquent explanation, some of the weaker gods' eyes lit up. Sure, they definitely couldn't compete with the Goddess of Agriculture on grains, couldn't compete with the major gods—they could at most lend a hand and sip some soup. But with so many directions, things were different. If my ability to research grains isn't as good as you major gods, surely I can research a fruit, right? Surely I can research a vegetable, right? Then I'll promote it well and get more people to eat this fruit, this vegetable.
It could be said that every single god had this opportunity. Especially since Ren also promised that as long as the varieties they developed truly had advantages, Ren would promote them for free once through the Magic Net, ensuring the vast majority of Magic Net users could see it. Even just catching the eye of a few lords would be excellent gains.
The eyes looking at Ren became incredibly fervent. They could even take multi-pronged action—helping the major gods on one hand while conducting their own research on the other.
"Technology, I understand everything else, but even if we cultivate higher-yield forage, we can't quickly increase livestock numbers, right? In fact, the mortal realm has never lacked forage. I think this shouldn't be one of our key projects." The Goddess of Agriculture seemed intimately familiar with this information. After hearing Ren's words, she immediately gave her assessment.
