The underground library of the Lycan Estate shuddered as dust plummeted from its quivering walls and ceilings. Explosions reverberated from above, urging Damien and Hecate to climb upstairs and identify the situation on the ground.
The rhythmic sound of rotor blades echoed as the two opened the iron door and saw half of the Lycan Estate blasted into damnation. In the skies were attack helicopters, hurtling rockets at the Howling Village.
"What the-" Hecate couldn't complete her sentence as she stared at the devastating scenery with a dumbfounded expression. Her velvet gaze narrowed, glaring at the attack helicopters hovering above them.
"Protect the villagers, Hecate. I'll handle the attackers." Damien uttered and hopped into the blasted cavity of the Lycan Estate, immediately reaching its rooftop. There, he saw the wide-ranging destruction left behind by the unexpected assault.
Every structure was consumed by the fiery flames, the white marble architecture darkening as ashes stirred amidst the roaring fire. The streets were littered with rubble, while the skies were shrouded in a cloud of black smoke.
In the distance, Lycanthropese of the Wolfenguard fought against the invading attack helicopters. Most of them transformed into wolves as they leaped towards the aerial vehicles and intercepted them from the skies.
A few of the attack helicopters crashed onto the ground, their metallic fuselage mangled and bent. The Lycanthropes didn't hesitate and gnawed the survivors of the crash before continuing their counter-attack.
"I need eyes in the skies," Damien muttered under his breath and withdrew the Freedom Eagle, Sky. It was currently circling the Fortified Colony of Cambridge Bay, but the present circumstance required its presence the most.
Moments later, a familiar screech echoed as the Freedom Eagle soared and revolved around the battlefield that was the Howling Village. He utilized his personal skill, Heaven's View, to observe the battle from another perspective.
His sable-tinted gaze squinted as he found the situation of the Howling Village dire. More attack helicopters were routed to reinforce the assault force, while transport helicopters were about to make their landings in several locations.
"Who are these people? This isn't a simple assault. The whole thing is a military-coordinated attack." Damien raised his eyebrows and called for Wyvern to rendezvous at his location.
Somewhere in the caldera, Fafnir awakened from its slumber as its slitted eyes narrowed towards the burning Howling Village. It growled before uttering a thunderous roar as it flapped its vast wings and soared into the heavens.
As the Wyvern pierced through the blackening skies, several attack helicopters pursued after it as their chainguns roared with flickering fire. None of their bullets penetrated through its scale, prompting Fafnir to adjust its wings and ram into a nearby attack helicopter.
Realizing the dangerous threat that Fafnir posed, the remaining attack helicopters changed their routes and focused on the current directive. The Wyvern reached the rooftop of the Lycan Estate and landed behind its Master.
"Fafnir, it's good that you're here. A paramilitary force is attacking the Howling Village. Assist the Lycanthropes in defending their homes." Damien commanded while the Wyvern lightly bowed before flapping its wings and soaring towards one of the assaulting attack helicopters.
His summoned monster was effective in making attack helicopters descend from the skies in a fireball. Rockets and missiles weren't capable of piercing through its scales, and even its muscles were capable of absorbing shockwaves.
"Troublesome..." He shook his head, disappointed at the destruction of the Howling Village. Its beauty was tarnished by the devastation of conflict. He would ensure that the suspects of the tragedy would pay the price.
'But the Lycanthropes are much more capable than I had previously expected.' Damien watched as the giant wolves launched themselves into the darkened sky and intercepted the hovering attack helicopters.
'Although none of them have the capabilities to rival a progenitor, some hold the power comparable to the True Bloods of the Clan. The most obvious would be Boris, Beowulf, and the Chieftain.'
"Thank you for your assistance, Sir Damien." Out of nowhere, the black-suited young man heard a voice behind him. Turning his head towards the rear, he saw Beowulf standing with poise. He seemed unaffected by the battlefield, his clothing untouched by dust and ash.
"The evacuation of our people has been completed faster than expected thanks to the assistance of your partner, Hecate." Beowulf smiled, appreciating the aid of the two Jaegers that had visited their Howling Village.
Damien nodded in understanding and gazed at the attack helicopters before inquiring. "Any idea about whose paramilitary force attacked the Howling Village?"
The black-suited young man had possible suspects, but it was better for the victims to be the ones who pointed him in the direction of the problem.
Beowulf sighed to himself and took a deep breath. "At first, we thought that it was the Abominable Clan that had assaulted our home. But it appears that the attacking forces are a part of SIGIL."
"SIGIL?" Damien raised his eyebrows, astounded by the news. He turned his attention towards the hovering attack helicopters, hurtling rockets to every corner of the Howling Village, and saw a trace of familiarity.
'It does remind me of the helicopter I first saw when escaping the containment truck that was about to transport me to the SIGIL Headquarters.' He furrowed his eyebrows, but also realized something important about the matter.
"Let me handle them, Beowulf," Damien affirmed while the old, middle-aged man glanced at him before nodding in agreement. "Alright, I hope that this doesn't escalate beyond our scope. Otherwise, the White Devil could be dragged into our troublesome matter."
He turned his attention towards the direction where their adversaries had established a forward-operating base. It was where most of the transport helicopters landed. 'If they truly are the SIGIL, it will escalate regardless.'
"I hope not." He shook his head and activated his personal skill, Raptured Blink. A giant black hand emerged from the fracture above him, descending and consuming the entirety of his body in a cloud of black mist. In mere moments, he was teleported to the middle of the FOB.
Soldiers marched as personnel constructed temporary tents for the duration of the campaign. There were also cages everywhere, which meant that these people intended to imprison the Lycanthropes of the Howling Village.
The sight brought a bad taste in his mouth, but he decided to ignore it and attract the attention of everyone by summoning Eclipse to hover above the skies. Within a couple of seconds, the forward-operating base dimmed as a shadow covered its entirety.
A black-suited man stepped out of the command tent and turned his gaze towards the person emanating the same aura as their idol. It was then that he realized it was none other than Damien, a member of Block 7.
"What are you doing here, Sir Damien? The SIGIL is currently conducting an operation against the Lycanthropes for breaking the treaty." The Jaeger uttered while staring at the black-suited young man. Damien looked at the officer and the personnel before yawning.
"SIGIL, huh? Whose division do you belong to?" Damien tilted his head and questioned the officer, who maintained their confidence and responded. "That is classified. You don't have the clearance to know our division. Under the name of the SIGIL, you must vacate the area."
"Return to Cambridge Bay and report to your Paragon." The more he spoke, the more determined the Jaeger became. He must ensure that the member of Block 7 wouldn't impede their plans. Otherwise, the pope wouldn't be pleased.
"Unfortunately, I cannot do as told. You see... Before starting the investigation of the unruly and deranged cult known as the Abominable, I have been given the authority to do as I please by the seventh Paragon herself." Damien shook his head and narrowed his sable-tinted gaze.
"Unless you inform me about your designations, I have no choice but to personally expel all of you from the Howling Village. Whether it'd be through compliance or force."
Silence pervaded the forward-operating base as the officer furrowed his eyebrows and glared at the black-suited young man. "You're stepping outside your boundaries. What you are doing is treason to the SIGIL."
The officer's warning was useless since Damien remained unmoving, determined to handle all of them if the situation required it.
After a couple of seconds, the black-suited young man chuckled as he shook his head with a tinge of displeasure. "I don't want to play any of your games anymore. Tell me... Are you a part of the so-called Shadow Division?"
The Shadow Division. It was the primary suspect he acknowledged during the assault on the Howling Village. When he heard that they were a part of the SIGIL. The conjecture became a fact. He didn't doubt the identities of these people. They were traitors of the SIGIL Covenant.
When his remark echoed throughout the forward-operating base. Almost everyone pulled out their handguns and pointed at him. Without hesitation or delay, they fired every bullet within their magazines, intending to assassinate him.
Sadly for them, it was already too late as the giant black hand descended from the heavens, provoking the wind to surge outward.
