Ling Ruonan arrived at the other residence just as Ling Mingrui was having breakfast with Xie Enhua.
Seeing Ling Ruonan bring Ling Haijun over, Xie Enhua appeared very surprised, while Ling Mingrui remained indifferent.
"Nannan, have you had breakfast?" Xie Enhua stood up and invited Ling Ruonan to join them for breakfast and surprisingly asked Ling Haijun: "Haijun, why are you here too?"
Ling Haijun walked behind with his head down, not daring to say a word. When Xie Enhua greeted him, he just opened his mouth without knowing what to say.
"Mom, I'm here to discuss some things with Dad," Ling Ruonan hadn't had breakfast yet, but she didn't intend to join her parents.
Time was short, and she wanted to clarify things quickly.
"Just say what you need to," Ling Mingrui had a general idea of Ling Ruonan's purpose, so he skipped the formalities and invited her to sit and speak quickly.
Ling Ruonan took out an iPad, played a video for Ling Mingrui.
After Ling Mingrui watched expressionlessly, Ling Ruonan played him an audio clip.
Once Ling Ruonan sat down, Xie Enhua tactfully left to attend to other matters.
She rarely involved herself in the family's major affairs, choosing to keep away when people came to report important matters to Ling Mingrui.
If Ling Haijun hadn't been there today, she would have stayed to listen to what Ling Ruonan had to say. Knowing that the presence of Ling Haijun indicated something serious, Xie Enhua tactfully decided to keep away.
With her not around, it was easier for Ling Mingrui and Ling Ruonan to discuss matters clearly.
"Explain some things," Ling Ruonan instructed Ling Haijun to tell Ling Mingrui some matters face-to-face.
Ling Haijun timidly glanced at Ling Mingrui but eventually repeated many things he'd already said before.
"I see," after listening to Ling Haijun, Ling Mingrui nodded expressionlessly and then instructed Ling Ruonan: "You both can go now."
"Dad, then I'll be on my way," Ling Ruonan packed away the iPad with the data, preparing to leave.
Before leaving, she asked Ling Mingrui: "I plan to take Haijun to see Grandpa, and after meeting him, let him return home. Is that okay?"
"If you want to take him to see your grandfather, then go ahead," Ling Mingrui replied expressionlessly, but after Ling Ruonan agreed, he reminded her once more: "Come over tonight for dinner. I'll ask your mom to buy some groceries."
"Alright, I'll come over for dinner with you tonight."
Ling Ruonan went inside and said goodbye to Xie Enhua.
"Mom, I'm going to see Grandpa; it's been days since I last visited. After seeing him, I'll head to work."
"What's really going on?" Finally alone with her daughter, Xie Enhua couldn't help but ask, "What happened? Is it serious?"
"My brother and Ling Zhenghui, outwardly reconciled with me, are still plotting against Ziling and me behind the scenes. They still want to ruin Ziling, want his life. They were caught by Ziling while planning, so Haijun was sent to me, and Haining is being sent back to my brother for him to handle."
After hearing Ling Ruonan, Xie Enhua's expression changed, but she only heaved a long sigh without saying much more.
"Come over for dinner tonight," Xie Enhua finally said the same thing as Ling Mingrui, "I'll buy some groceries, and you just come over after work."
"Dad already asked me to come, so I will," Ling Ruonan smiled, said no more, and took her leave.
After Ling Ruonan left, Xie Enhua quickly went to Ling Mingrui's side and asked in a low voice: "How did things come to this? Weren't they alright? Why the sudden strife?"
"Your grandson performed too well, and many people are envious, wanting to trample him down," Ling Mingrui sighed, "The Ling Family people are incompetent but refuse to accept that the child of a Ling Family woman is better than them, so they target him repeatedly, aiming to destroy him. They think our grandson wants everything of the Ling Family."
"What do you plan to do about this?" Xie Enhua, having experienced much, asked Ling Mingrui calmly, "Our daughter is bringing this to your attention and wants to tell the Old Sir too. Her actions show she's very angry, issuing us an ultimatum. If we ignore this, she's bound to retaliate."
Instead of answering Xie Enhua, Ling Mingrui asked, "Do you think our grandson covets the Ling Family's possessions?"
"If we give it, he might not want it, but if we give him nothing, he'll fight for it instead." Xie Enhua answered Ling Mingrui almost without a thought, "He's not a greedy person; his conduct over the past six months proves that. He hasn't asked us for anything, his only request being family reunion. Compared to the Ling Family's other descendants, he's on another level. He hopes to carve out his own world through hard work. None of the Ling Family members or other clan youths match his capabilities."
"You do rate your grandson highly," Ling Mingrui smiled slightly.
"Ling'er is actually quite like Ruonan, very smart, and cunning. Inadvertently, they accomplish things effortlessly. Now, no one would dare take him lightly; even some of the older generation regard him as someone significant." Xie Enhua also smiled, "Ruonan is fortunate indeed to have a son like him. With Ling'er's aid, her life should go smoother."
"Upon arriving in Yanjing, he helped cure Li Haiyang's illness, using the treatment to gain the backing of the entire Dragon Rise. Using his medical skills, he caught the attention of the Old Sir, then leveraged these skills to gain so much, even making Old Sir Yang hold back momentarily. Folks who can maximally exploit their strengths like this are rare. Fortunately, he remains humble, indifferent to wealth, not power-hungry, and possesses a resolute heart. His only flaw is being a bit of a philanderer." Analyzing Luo Ziling, Ling Mingrui stood up, "I'll consult with the Old Sir and, after hearing his views, will take a proper stance. Presumably, upon knowing this, Zhengping will hurry back to Yanjing to offer explanations."
"Alas, why can't our son and daughter just get along peacefully?" Xie Enhua sighed.
"Greed is to blame," Ling Mingrui pointed to his head, "Their mentality is inadequate; if Zhengping had our grandson's mindset, not sweat the small stuff, things wouldn't be so complicated."
"Hope he learns his lesson and that they, as brother and sister, don't squabble anymore."
"I'll have a proper talk with Zhengping when he returns."
"Alright!"
