God of Destruction: Living Among Mortals

Chapter 169: The Final Convergence

"I can feel it," Nova told Marcus. "I can feel the Circle of Pillars connecting with my Ability Chamber. I can feel the A-rank evolution occurring soon enough. I am almost there."

"Good," Marcus replied, as he cracked his neck. There were some distant voices, though both of them ignored them. "Today is the final stage of the tournament. I want you to give it your all and try not to be eliminated as the first team. Though I can guarantee that the Australians will target you, so be careful."

"Ok, I understand. I'll try to avoid them as much as possible, but they still outrank us, and I'm still only a B-rank Adventurer."

"That's true, but you're something different. The way you jumped two pillars, and are already about to evolve again, that's something that doesn't just occur. I have a feeling that you're going to change the world. And hopefully I'm here for it."

They both smiled as they started to train themselves. The distant voices were Zane, Michael, Adam, and Elesch having a two-on-two battle, with Elesch and Zane being on a team, and Adam and Michael being on a team.

Nova and Marcus were ten yards apart from each other, with Nova jumping in place and getting ready to push himself slightly before the match. He sighed, exhaling and inhaling consistently, with big breaths and releases.

He cracked his bones, feeling his body tighten, as Marcus got into his defensive position. He didn't have anything on his mind, clearing his mind enough not to have anything but the upcoming spar between him and Nova.

As Nova exhaled one last time, at the very end of the exhale, he darted forward, faster than before. After stage four was over, the team was taken to a spa, where they did a lot of relaxation and recovery, with Nova requesting something different.

He wanted an acupuncture, feeling the curse he had felt restricted him in stage four, lingering longer than it should have. After the acupuncture, he felt his body feel as light as a photon. His mind was emptier than a void in space. His muscles felt loose, as if he didn't have any bones or flesh to begin with.

And since then, he felt lighter and overall much more efficient in his sparring. He was much faster as well, as if he had the potential to be faster, but couldn't, but now that the acupuncture was done, his legs felt like a lock had been picked, releasing the goods in it.

As Nova darted forward, Marcus was visibly stunned by how fast Nova was moving. It was nowhere near his speed, but for a B-rank Adventurer, this level of speed was unheard of.

Nova feinted to the right, summoning his daggers, and then feinted to the right again, which confused Marcus, and as Nova closed the distance, Marcus didn't see him. He looked everywhere, but couldn't see him.

Then, he heard a faint ripple of sound tearing through the fabric of spacetime near him, which gave him the indication that Nova was going to strike. As his eyes finally saw Nova, he dodged instantly. Nova then launched a barrage of attacks, daggers, hands, legs, and everything else he could utilize to create as much chaos as possible.

Marcus avoided and dodged all the attacks, but was impressed by how fast he had gotten. The other who were training more peacefully watched as the sparring unfolded. They were in awe. They were flabbergasted by the speed that Nova was reaching, something they didn't expect.

Instead of training, they watched as bystanders, not making an inch of noise. Elesch's astonishment turned into a faint smile tugging at her lips as she remarked how talented Nova was, even though he was just a mortal. Then thought about how talented his and Freya's child would be when it's born.

As the sparring continued, time trickled down, and for the past two hours, Nova relentlessly tried to get through Marcus's first layer of defense, but wasn't even able to land a single scratch. He wasn't even able to slightly touch him, let alone put a scratch on him.

As Nova sliced down with his daggers, Marcus stopped him midair and calmly told him, "It's time for the final stage. And remember, do not engage in battle meaninglessly, it will only cost you."

Nova nodded, sheathing his daggers, as he wiped some sweat from his temple. He quickly used a restroom, as everyone left to go to the ground floor, where the rest of the guild was present. As the metallic doors opened, screams filled the entire guild, with party sparklers and other sparks flying everywhere.

Everyone congratulated the four as the elevator went up, then after five minutes, Nova emerged. He saw all the sparklers and his teammates waiting for him, as the time now was 8:54 AM.

Everyone cheered them on, and the five entered the portal to go to the spectator box for stage five, the final stage. Nova was slightly nervous, but Elesch grabbed his hand and nodded towards him. She pulled him through, as on the other side, there was nothing but the color white.

Then they saw the other four guilds: Australian, South Korean, Russian, and finally the Indian. There were five guilds with forty members, Adventurers present. The Australian guild looked at them funny, as the Russian ignored them and had their sights on the South Korean Guild, who looked nicely at the American Guild, with the Indian Guild ignoring them all.

Then the annocument went off, the metallic voice static at first, but slowly starting to make sense: "Welcome, Adventurers, to the Final Convergence. This is the final stage of the Tournament, where five guilds will enter a city-sized living arena that constantly collapses and reshapes itself. There will be monsters, A-rank and up. And unlike earlier rounds, there are no sage zones, no flags, no nothing. Just chaos and mayhem as you traverse through this last stage. I hope you all the best of luck, and may the best guild be the last guild standing."
