Looking at the invitation in his elder brother's hand, Xiao Lian curiously asked, "Brother, why are you going to the auction? Don't tell me you're bored enough to start collecting antiques too?"
"Of course not, I'm going to the auction for one thing only," Lin Yifan answered.
"What thing?" Xiao Lian continued to inquire with curiosity.
"The Healing Wound Flower!" Lin Yifan replied.
"The Healing Wound Flower? Yifan, what do you need that for?" Yi Chen's brows were furrowed tight, sensing that something must have happened to Lin Yifan.
He had heard of the Healing Wound Flower, which could heal one's internal injuries, especially those in the intestines. Practically every cultivator wanted to obtain one or two of these flowers; thus, he guessed that Lin Yifan might have encountered trouble.
"Of course, I have my uses for it," Lin Yifan replied, not revealing much. The less he exposed about possessing the Intestine-Piercing Pill, the better.
However, judging from Yi Chen's reaction, Lin Yifan felt that Yi Chen probably knew something.
"Brother, why would you casually bring home such a flower? Is there something special about it?" Xiao Lian was still puzzled.
"Don't ask so many questions, just eat your meal obediently," Lin Yifan said, not wanting to divulge too much and not wanting his sister to get involved in the matters of cultivation.
Xiao Lian always felt that her brother was mysterious, as if he was hiding something from them; however, she didn't press further, knowing that even if she did ask, her elder brother wouldn't give her a real answer.
After dinner, Lin Yifan and Yi Chen drove Su Qingqing and Xiao Lian back to the villa before heading to the top of the mountain together.
The villa was Xiao Lian's idea—she said it was in case her big brother ended up with a flock of wives and concubines and needed a big house to accommodate them. In truth, she wanted it for herself.
But that was fine, too; the cost of the villa was something Lin Yifan could afford.
Arriving at a mountaintop, Lin Yifan and Yi Chen got out of the car and walked together, gazing at the bright city lights below.
After a while, Yi Chen finally broke the silence, "Yifan, are you hurt?"
"Yes!" Lin Yifan replied; since Yi Chen had already guessed, there was no point in hiding it any longer.
"Who's the bastard who did this?" Yi Chen asked angrily.
Lin Yifan had always treated him like a brother; now that his brother was injured, he was truly angry and wanted to help Lin Yifan get revenge. But if even Lin Yifan couldn't handle the person, how could he?
Listening to the angry tone, Lin Yifan felt somewhat pleased; a brother like this was indeed worth having. However, there were some things he still could not reveal, as it might involve the landlord Granny. At this stage, he didn't want to anger the mysterious senior figure with an unknown realm, so he responded, "I accidentally injured myself during a breakthrough the night before last."
"Just as I had suspected!" Yi Chen realized.
Lin Yifan had broken through only a few days ago, and now he suddenly needed the Healing Wound Flower. Naturally, Yi Chen connected the two incidents.
Yi Chen's words allowed Lin Yifan to breathe a sigh of relief; he had thought that Yi Chen knew about the Intestine-Piercing Poison in his possession.
"It seems the effects of the Healing Wound Flower are not limited to one."
Having kept the truth from Yi Chen, he cut to the chase and asked, "Brother Yi Chen, do you know of the existence of the Voodoo Sect?"
"Why do you ask?" Yi Chen immediately became alert; the Voodoo Sect was the number one enemy of the Cultivation World in the Central Plains! They were the target of many Sects, and everyone sought to eliminate them.
"This time, I think I encountered someone from the Voodoo Sect," Lin Yifan replied. In order to extract more information about the Voodoo Sect, he could only say that.
"No way, are you saying this kidnapping case was done by someone from the Voodoo Sect?" Yi Chen asked in surprise.
"I can't exclude that possibility," Lin Yifan answered.
"Then what are they after?" Yi Chen inquired, puzzled.
"I don't know about that; can you tell me, what kind of existence does the Voodoo Sect hold in our Cultivation World?" Lin Yifan asked.
"The Voodoo Sect was founded by one of the nine True Masters, the Witchcraft True Master, who is notorious for his evilness; thus, the Voodoo Sect has always been on the opposite side of the major Sects in the Cultivation World, despised by everyone, and whom everyone sought to destroy," Yi Chen replied.
"Why is that? What makes the Voodoo Sect evil?" Lin Yifan continued to ask curiously.
"Do you know what principle the Voodoo Sect follows? Their principle is to destroy everything and achieve self-interest. Their existence is for the sole purpose of destroying the world!" Yi Chen said angrily.
"Um..." Lin Yifan was somewhat speechless. Why did this seem different from what he knew?
In the "Witchcraft Secret Manual," he had seen that the Witchcraft True Master turned against the other eight True Masters over something, and then created the Voodoo Sect in order to gain enough power to oppose them. As for principles about destroying the world or monstrous acts that eliminate humanity, he had seen none; at most, there were records of killing numerous disciples of orthodox Sects and capturing many for experiments, which seemed more like settling scores and avenging wrongs, rather than doing anything to ordinary people.
So, either Yi Chen had been brainwashed, or the "Witchcraft Secret Manual" was incorrect. However, the Witchcraft True Master had no reason to be wrong; because the Manual was his journal, written according to his feelings at the time, and should be authentic.
"Brother Yi Chen, don't get worked up; from what I know, the Voodoo Sect was annihilated by the eight major Cultivation Sects a hundred years ago. I just want to know whether this evil Sect still exists or not?" Lin Yifan voiced his doubts.
"I don't know either. However, I remember my Master once said that the Witchcraft True Master was killed by the combined forces of the eight True Masters back then. So, with the Sect Leader dead, there should be no remnants left," Yi Chen answered.
He had not been born at the time of the incident; hence, he was unaware of many details. All the information about the Voodoo Sect he had came from what he overheard from other disciples. His Master, however, had always instilled in him that the Voodoo Sect was an utterly evil Sect that everyone sought to destroy.
"It seems Yi Chen has truly been brainwashed," Lin Yifan thought to himself.
The Witchcraft True Master had never actually died, and yet the eight True Masters declared him dead, a great deception to everyone. Whether the purpose was to save face or to hide something else, he did not know.
After talking for so long, Yi Chen suddenly realized something and asked, "Yifan, you said you encountered someone from the Voodoo Sect, right? Why are you asking me whether the Voodoo Sect still exists?"
"I only vaguely saw a skull mark and thought it belonged to someone from the Voodoo Sect," Lin Yifan answered.
