Zombie Bodyguard

Chapter 1281: Blood Clan Laboratory

From start to finish, Lin Tian only watched as Langde killed Morman, and did not intervene. It wasn't until Morman died and turned into a dried corpse that Lin Tian felt the mental connection sever.

This meant that Morman was completely dead, and Lin Tian could no longer bring him back to life. Since Morman had also received a drop of his zombie blood, there was a psychic connection. Now that the connection was completely lost, it showed that Morman was truly dead.

"You two wanderers, you are my new servants now. Drag him out and bury him, then meet me in the underground laboratory in an hour." Langde didn't even look at Lin Tian and the others, turning around and leaving the castle hall.

After Elder Langde left, Rossi said, "Brother Tian, what should we do now? Do we really have to be his servants?"

"Being anything is just an identity. Now we can get through without making up excuses, isn't that even better?" Lin Tian replied with a faint smile.

Before coming to the castle, he thought he would have to make up a bunch of excuses to gain Elder Sinmore's trust. But now, it turned out that this elder didn't even take notice of him, saving Lin Tian a lot of mental effort.

"Don't think too much about it. Let's drag him out and bury him first." Lin Tian pointed to the dried corpse on the ground and said.

Rossi nodded, grabbed the dried corpse with one hand, and walked out of the castle with Lin Tian. Surrounding the castle were mountains and forests. In the woods outside the castle, Lin Tian unexpectedly found a cemetery.

The cemetery was simply enclosed with wooden stakes, containing about a dozen rectangular graves, but the tombstones bore no inscriptions.

The night wind blew, making it feel as if mysterious chanting came from the cemetery, like the souls were whispering. Living so close to such a place near the castle, wouldn't ordinary people be constantly on edge every night?

"Sigh..."

A sigh came from behind one of the tombstones, causing Lin Tian and Rossi to exchange puzzled glances. Could there still be a resurrected vampire?

"Who is it?" Lin Tian frowned and asked. Such a scene might scare ordinary people, but he felt nothing. Even if a vampire resurrected, or if there were truly ghosts, he would still drag them out and give them a good beating.

"It's me, the old man." A shadow appeared from behind the tombstone, and it turned out to be an old man, his hair white and face wrinkled.

"Are you of Sinmore's Blood Clan?" Lin Tian asked again.

The old man walked over, saying faintly, "If I weren't, could I still be standing here properly?"

"In the middle of the night, why aren't you staying in the castle, coming to the cemetery instead?" Rossi questioned.

The old man glanced at the dried corpse in Rossi's hand, grinning as he said, "Why you are here, I'm here for the same reason."

"You're burying someone?" Lin Tian squinted and asked.

"Isn't it obvious? I am the castle's butler. If I weren't burying someone, why would I be here?" the old man replied righteously.

So he was the butler. Lin Tian's mind turned with this revelation as he asked again, "The dead Blood Clan members, where do they come from?"

"Of course, they come from the elder's laboratory. This is already the fifth one. Oh no, including the one in your hands, it's the sixth one this week," the butler said, his tone cold and regretful.

"Could the elder be a sadist, needing to kill kin every day?" Lin Tian retorted.

The old butler walked in front of Rossi, intending to take Morman's dried corpse. Rossi resisted slightly, but Lin Tian gestured for him to let go. The old butler picked up the dried corpse, placed it in an empty grave, covered it with a coffin lid, and erected a blank tombstone for Morman.

After burying the dried corpse, the old butler looked at Lin Tian and Rossi for a while before shaking his head and leaving without a word.

"As a vampire, Morman was timid and afraid of death. Such a person has no loyalty. Even if he didn't die today, I wouldn't have kept him," Lin Tian said coldly.

Although he had used zombie blood to control Morman, Morman was different from Rossi. Lin Tian had never intended to keep him.

"Brother Tian, Elder Langde wants me to go to the laboratory. Could it be to use us for experiments?" Rossi asked.

Lin Tian nodded and said, "Very likely. Langde is an eccentric. If he didn't trust us, he wouldn't kill us outright. Instead, he'd use us for experiments, which suits his style. But it doesn't matter; I have my ways to handle it."

Taking another glance at the cemetery, Lin Tian and Rossi left the eerie place. The night wind blew again, and behind them came intermittent, vague whispers, as if grievances were being voiced.

Back at the castle, after another half hour, it was about the time Langde had designated. Lin Tian asked a guard about the location of the entrance to the underground laboratory.

The entrance was actually inside the castle, though one needed to take a detour. In a room at the back of the castle, there was a corner with a passage to the underground lab. The passage was not closed, with lights faintly shining and strange sounds emanating from within.

"Since you're here, come down," Langde's voice echoed from the passage. As an elder of the Blood Clan, it was not surprising he knew someone was approaching.

Lin Tian did not hesitate, stepping into the underground passage. The passage had no turns, leading straight to a spacious basement.

Upon seeing this basement, Lin Tian had an illusion that he had walked into a high school chemistry lab. No, the experimental equipment here was more complete than in any school lab.

Various apparatuses glowed with light; some Lin Tian had never seen before. Shelves held numerous glass bottles and containers, some empty, others filled with oddly colored liquids.

Even some large glass containers were filled with strange items, like animal corpses that could not be easily identified.

Langde was at a workstation, where a complete set of distillation equipment was laid out. A heater was heating liquids, bubbling and releasing steam.

At the end of the distillation setup was a glass bottle meant to collect the distilled matter, a pale red liquid.

What made Lin Tian frown was the mobile operating table behind Langde, with a person—more precisely, a vampire—tied to it.

This vampire's sharp fangs were visible in his mouth, and black veins appeared around his eye sockets. However, his eyes were filled with fear, contrasting sharply with the elegant and noble image usually associated with vampires.

"Wanderers, you saw what happened in Sorlin Castle, right?" Langde asked while conducting his experiment, not turning his head.

"Yes," Lin Tian replied truthfully.

"Good. I've just improved the potion formula. Later, I want you to observe and tell me if the effects differ from those seen on Clark," Elder Langde instructed calmly. Though his tone lacked command, his words left no room for refusal.

A Blood Clan Elder is a truly high-ranking vampire, one who has long held power and doesn't need to feign authority. Any Blood Clan member who dared defy him could be killed on the spot.
