Legend of the chosen ones: Beyond Destiny

Chapter 181 Down Payment

In the midst of shaking mountains, a large amount of mud and rubble tumbled down from the mountaintop.

Ancient trees fell amidst loud crashes, while surging mudflows cracked the ground open, and a slender yet sharp limb slowly extended from directly ahead in the field of view.

Then came a second, a third, a fourth...

Amid the hissing sounds and pervasive dust, the vast silhouette emerged from in front of the convoy.

It resembled a bizarre stick insect, only magnified thousands of times so that even a single leg was hundreds of meters long. Its body was covered with a shell, its head had tentacles that frantically undulated, and each limb pounded the ground, carving deep ravines.

It seemed as if it were enraged, madly attacking every living thing it saw.

"Disaster Beast?"

Ji Jue leaned out of the car window, holding a pair of binoculars, peering toward the massive creature in the distance. It was a pity Xiao Jiu wasn't here, otherwise, they could have shared the view.

But apart from sharing the view, she wasn't much use for anything else.

As one of Mercury's lovely creations, she hardly looked like she could fight, even failing to snatch a remote control from a small bullock. Ji Jue, wanting to avoid having something gobble her up inside the Earth Cave, did not dare bring her outside. He left her in the workshop, urging Ye Chun to study diligently and work hard on his thesis.

As the focus adjusted in the binoculars, the distant behemoth gradually came into clarity. But actually, the binoculars were nearly unnecessary now, as the furious Disaster Beast approached swiftly with the dance of its limbs!

A strong wind hit their faces, carrying a faint stench.

Its tentacles, functioning like mouthparts, snapped forward, grabbing a half of a truck and tossing it into its mouth, crushing it to bits.

Disaster Beast.

A genuine Disaster Beast!

These days, with rampant natural disasters, people could only cluster in cities, and in the wilderness between cities, aside from frequent earthquakes and storms, perhaps the most terrifying were these out-of-specification monsters.

Sometimes it was an overwhelming tide of beasts with no visible end, and sometimes, it was these disaster creatures that followed the beast tides, never knowing satiety!

People could by sheer luck end up as Chosen Ones, but in the perilous wilderness, influenced either by superior induction or Mutated Pollution, one never knew when such a monstrous thing would pop up.

Ordinary people meeting one had no choice but to run faster and pray it wasn't too hungry that day.

But... this was a military convoy!

Realizing the situation, Ji Jue was unphased. He was even contemplating whether to seize the chaos to scoop some valuable materials since something this massive might possess Superior Blessing or some other precious organs.

But before he could react, he saw it, the metallic gleam burst from the swiftly descending Flying Airship!

In a roar, it descended from the sky!

Not missiles, but something even more threatening than missiles.

—Unmistakable military Power Armor!

Ji Jue's mouth was practically watering.

Genuine Power Armor!

You see, even the oldest, most beaten-up Power Armor, in the military's weapons archive, was classified as Grade A, something Ji Jue couldn't even touch!

As for the currently equipped main models and special units, he couldn't even find them!

With one tap of the return key, alarms immediately activated.

At the moment of deployment, the armors, grouped in six, made up a standard Terrorism Rapid Response Team: two Qiong Qi, two Heavenly Dogs, one White Tiger, and one Chong Ming!

Each three-meter-tall armor, under the flamethrower's blaze, crashed to the ground and then swiftly picked up exaggerated caliber autocannons and began firing, sweeping and slashing flames, instantly leaving deep crevices on the hardened shell, with fluids spurting out.

And under such fearsome recoil, they still managed to dash effortlessly.

And in mid-air, the Chong Ming, which hadn't yet landed, already initiated fire control. In less than half a minute, missiles from the Cliff City garrison base charged forth, striking the Disaster Beast's face, the blast rolling through, storm spreading.

The beast's blood spurted out like a violent rainstorm.

Power, speed, reaction, and firepower, everything was enhanced to unimaginable heights under the influence of the Power Armor. What Ji Jue cared about more was the White Tiger, who stood guarding the front of the convoy the entire time without engaging.

Under the glow of blood and fire, the spiritual fluctuations were unwavering, immovable as a mountain.

It was a pure and flawless collective aura!

That was a Chosen One, cultivated by the military!

Under the overwhelming firepower and siege, the arrogant giant Disaster Beast quickly had its limbs broken, then snapped in the waist, stench spreading.

But its life force was stubbornly infuriating, still struggling ceaselessly, its broken jaws fiercely opening and closing, trying to tear apart everything in front.

Until at last, a skyful of blue-purple electric light appeared!

Amid the subtle, omnipresent electric light, the long-charged Chosen One ascended into the sky and with a wave of his hand, an intense beam of light converged and pierced downward!

The nearly heaven-piercing thunderbolt acted as the final straw to break the camel's back. Within the dissipating hisses, the stench spread along with the fallen Disaster Beast.

Mid-air, the Chosen One looked down upon his achievement, and his lips curled into a disdainful smile.

Just a Disaster Beast, no big deal.

But, from his vantage point, he seemed to see a familiar face, paused for a moment, and upon closer inspection, his smile froze on his face.
