Legend of the chosen ones: Beyond Destiny

Chapter 180: It's All Just for Show...

Seven days later, at noon, at the military base in Cliff City, the place was buzzing with activity.

One after another, fully loaded trucks roared down the dirt road, kicking up dust, disappearing from sight. Meanwhile, on the vast airport, enormous flying airships took off and landed.

Thus, sinister shadows snaked forward on the ground, sweeping over Ji Jue, chasing the flying airships towards the distance.

"Wow, what a big spectacle."

Ji Jue clicked his tongue in amazement, carrying a box and showing his ID, passing through the security checkpoint in front of the gate.

He then saw the huge square, where many large, yet-to-be-prepared vehicles were still lined up waiting to be loaded, while soldiers fully geared in off-road vehicles wore sunglasses, smoked cigarettes, and critiqued the scene before them.

It seemed that this term's Hai Province garrison really wanted to stir things up.

Achieve everything in one battle?

It sounded ambitious, but was it not incredibly difficult?

The catastrophe in Spring City had already impacted Hai Province for decades.

Before the fall of Spring City, it was considered the heart of Hai Province, almost a capital, and there was no talk of Tide City back then. After the disaster of the sinking ground in Spring City, the entire Hai Province seemed to have its backbone broken, struggling to recover ever since. Only recently, with the help of shipping trade, was it able to look up again, only to face the disaster of the Fire Tide, truly a fate filled with hardship.

Over the years, the pollution from the Earth Cave had been relentless, and it wasn't that no one wanted to clean up the trouble in Spring City and completely eliminate future worries, but every attempt ended in a lot of talk but little action due to the lack of powerful leaders. Major and minor cities bickered over minor gains, and in the end, everyone returned home from meetings with nothing resolved.

As a commoner, Ji Jue naturally couldn't know all the details, but though he didn't understand Spring City, he understood the Federation.

As long as taxes were paid, tasks completed, and quotas met, why would the councilmen of Central City care about the lives of the commoners? Rather than hoping for them, it would be better to hope for this term's Hai Province garrison planning to run for president, to make the Federation great again.

Anyway, it had nothing to do with Ji Jue.

He was just a sidekick, if things went well, of course, it would add a glorious note to his resume, and his otherwise empty material storage would also have more reserves.

Even if it didn't work out, wouldn't he still be following his teacher on the run?

When the sky falls, the tall ones will hold it up.

I, Master Ji, just take care of the car repairs.

After checking his ID, the soldier seemed puzzled to see such a young person mixing in but ultimately said nothing, just pointed out the road and told him not to wander before letting him through.

Just a few steps later, under the sunshade outside the railing, he saw a familiar face.

Someone frantically waving their hands, afraid he wouldn't see.

Xiao An?

Ji Jue was slightly startled. Noticing him, Xiao An also smiled, "Take care, Brother Ji Jue!"

"Alright, alright."

Ji Jue smiled too, warmth filling his heart.

"Take care, 'Brother Ji Jue'!" Tong Hua mockingly parroted beside him.

"Heh."

Ji Jue smiled politely, his fist clenched, ready to share a joke with you later.

"Take care, Brother Ji Jue!"

Behind Tong Hua, a tall figure looked over, lifting the polarized glasses on his nose, wearing a mocking smile.

Ji Jue's expression twitched instantly, "Wen Wen, why join in the fun! And Old Zhang, you too!"

He managed to stop the old man behind him who wanted to repeat the phrase just in time, and Ji Jue no longer cared about the occasion, moving closer to the railing, "What are you guys doing here?"

"Just standard site security, the usual stuff."

Wen Wen gestured towards the center of the city, "Tong Shan just talks, we run around, that kid is getting better at making tones...ah, we grassroots folks can't compare to Master Ji who has soared high. It's been so long since you visited the Northern Mountain District, who knows if you'll still remember old friends in the future."

"Don't make me feel bad."

Ji Jue gave a bitter smile, "I've been busy...really busy, the kind of busy that makes you puke blood. I'll definitely treat you all when I'm back!"

Just last night at four in the morning he had managed some sleep, and now the dark circles were still visible on his face.

After teasing Ji Jue a bit, Wen Wen didn't say much more, instead pointing at the box in his hand, "Leaving Embers with just this little bag? Is that enough?

If you're really so broke, we could chip in and get you a decent travel kit."

"Don't worry, I have all the essentials with me, and besides..."

Ji Jue paused, then whistled behind him.

Immediately, amid rolling smoke and continuous rattling,

in a crescendo of metallic friction, a bizarre vehicle with two huge exhaust pipes strutted in amid many shocked and perplexed gazes, parked right next to Ji Jue, spinning its tail and beep-beeping triumphantly on its horn.

It looked just like an illegally-operated mini truck commonly seen on the streets of Cliff City, its entire body draped in armor so heavy that even military off-road vehicles would envy, with four huge wheels and raised suspension lifting the body almost one meter off the ground. Layers of tubing crawled underneath the armor like vines, a row of floodlights on the front unnecessary during daylight, while at the back, a huge cargo box pushed the limits of road authority tolerance by raising to two and a half meters.

At that moment, two diesel engines were still ferociously spouting black smoke, polluting the air.
