Legend of the chosen ones: Beyond Destiny

Chapter 130: The Long Night - Part One

Half an hour ago, Cliff City, Dragon Sea District.

The last trace of twilight had died away in the darkness of night, and a thunderous roar burst forth from the overpass.

In the violent shaking, large amounts of debris collapsed, plummeting, smashing into the sea, stirring up murky colors.

The flames burned fiercely, fanned by the raging wind.

Amidst the chaos, the burning Fierce Flame parted on both sides, revealing the silhouette emerging from the center of the explosion. The white suit remained spotless, except for the slightly graying long hair that rustled wildly in the fierce wind.

"Brother Yaoxing!"

The originally panicked subordinates lit up, relieved or cheering, but only a very few of them looked serious—the boss's movements were kept absolutely secret to avoid assassination, and the decision to visit Lei Wuye at the hospital tonight was made on a whim. Only a handful knew about it, so why did this still happen?

A few cold gazes swept back and forth through the crowd, their suspicions and indifference undisguised when their eyes met.

Until Lei Yaoxing casually tossed the shadow dragged out from the center of the explosion onto the ground.

Charred by the fire and the blast, he was already shattered, barely clinging to life, and his original features were almost unrecognizable.

But at this moment, the young man showed no gratitude. Instead, he struggled to raise his neck and opened his mouth towards Lei Yaoxing.

Ptui!

His spit, mixed with blood, landed on Lei Yaoxing's leather shoe, making his gaze grow colder.

"Xiaoye, I treated you fairly. After your father died, I raised you, educated you, fought with you, and turned over the company to your hands..."

Lei Yaoxing sighed lightly, "Here, everyone has the right to be a traitor, except you."

"I don't?"

Xiaoye coughed violently, laughed hoarsely, his voice sharp as a night owl's, "Eleven years ago, that ship on the high seas, how did it flip? Do I need to remind you?!

How did my dad die, do you dare to tell me!"

Lei Yaoxing remained silent.

From the deathly stillness, he watched the mocking face with an indifferent gaze, shaking his head in regret after a while, "Wolf cubs... can never be tamed."

From within Xiaoye's ruined body, spiritual energy burst forth, and his limbs exploded. Yet his body suddenly leaped up from the ground. His fractured left arm raised, channeling over a decade of hatred, and the sharp bone shards stabbed towards Lei Yaoxing's throat.

Unfortunately, it proved futile.

Lei Yaoxing merely waved his hand lazily, and Xiaoye's body froze mid-air as if encased in ice. Then, in the searing wind, it disintegrated into myriads of threads, a surge of blood erupting.

As if in an instant, he suffered a thousand cuts, the rebel ground to dust thoroughly.

In the lingering silence of death, no one dared to speak.

Everyone bowed their heads in silence, not even daring to make a sound as they breathed.

"Why... have I fallen to this point?"

In the sultry wind, Lei Yaoxing gazed at the flames before him, and then at the neon lights flickering in the distant city.

So unfamiliar.

He had already gained the absolute upper hand in the struggles of Cliff City's underworld, all opponents, even with expensive foreign help, were but chickens and dogs.

He was so sure of victory...

But suddenly, he felt from his marrow a creeping weakness.

The twists of recent days, the life-and-death struggles before his eyes, betrayals, alliances, mergers, and purges... all unpredictable, like cobwebs falling from darkness, slowly settling upon him thread by thread.

Now, against all reason, he felt overwhelmed.

Things should not have come to this.

His godfather had been gradually handing over power to him in recent years, everyone should rightfully venerate him as their leader, and he should rightfully stand at the very pinnacle of this barren wilderness... but from the moment his godfather started deteriorating with illness, did everything begin to spiral out of control?

The rules that should have continued were shattered.

The iron laws that should have been observed were disregarded by everyone.

And now, seeking the reasons behind this chaos, tangled amidst myriad threads, all seemed to circle back to one name.

A puppet used for laundering money, an assistant randomly picked by Lei Wuye, an unanticipated stumbling block, a player who had lost the right to compete, a chess master everyone had forgotten.

"Chen Xingzhou, is it you?"

In that moment, Lei Yaoxing murmured, his dark pupils turning towards the distant Cliff City, "Where is he now?"

"Jici Hospital."

The elder, who had remained calm throughout, replied, "They say he was rescued successfully but hasn't regained consciousness yet."

"He's still alive..."

Lei Yaoxing clapped his hands, as if in admiration, "Such good fortune."

But then, the elder heard Lei Yaoxing's command, "Take some men and finish him off, his brother too. Don't leave anyone related to him alive, not a single one."

"But..."

The gaunt elder paused, instinctively wanting to protest.

Too many doubts.

Chen Xingzhou was no longer a threat, the action would take place in Chongguang Church's hospital, it was against the rules, and after killing him, who would ever trust your word again?

"Fuck the buts!!!"

From within his raging fury, Lei Yaoxing turned, his pupils reflecting the firelight, crimson.

Yet, he could not help but smile.

Like finally breaking free from his chains...

In the moment of decision, he felt an incredible lightness throughout his body, even the oncoming wind felt so gentle.
