Apocalyptic Wasteland Simulator

Chapter 154: Framing! Chen Pingchuan's Malicious Intent

Chen Pingchuan slowly spread open his palm. In an instant, two access cards shaped like nameplates, as if carved from crystal, appeared out of thin air in his hand.

This scene was witnessed by Nightingale, who was standing beside him. Her delicate body trembled, her beautiful eyes widened, and a look of astonishment washed over her face.

Nightingale had to admit to herself that the Chen Pingchuan before her was like a mysterious treasure of a boy. He was deeply captivating, and from time to time, he would display some superhuman abilities, causing her to doubt his identity. Chen Pingchuan could not possibly be just an ordinary high school student from the City of No Night.

It was common knowledge that even the most powerful Genetic Warrior in the Great Ming Empire could only possess three exclusive, extraordinary talents. These talents were awakened by catalysts at three different points in one's life.

The first type of talent is innate. Not everyone is born with one, as it is purely up to fate.

The second opportunity arises when a Level 3 Genetic Warrior is promoted to a Level 4 Power User. If they awaken an extraordinary talent then, they become a Gene-Enabler. The probability of awakening a talent at this stage, while not insignificant, is only ten percent.

When a Gene-Enabler reaches the peak of Level 6 and prepares to advance to Level 7, the Genetic Warrior can once again make a choice. They can either enhance an existing talent—like how my Annihilation Black Ball could be upgraded into a more powerful Annihilation Black Hole—or they can choose to undergo another mutation to produce a new talent.

This ability to materialize objects from thin air can't be another one of his new talents, can it? But he seems to have just barely reached the level of a Third-level Power User. Could he have awakened it early? I suppose that would be normal, given how special he is. It can't be true, what I saw in that memory... that he's a messenger of the gods, can it?

There was no need for Chen Pingchuan to explain his strange talents; Nightingale had already concocted numerous justifications for him in her mind.

What was Chen Pingchuan doing at that moment? He was carefully studying how to unlock the door to the Crystal Stone Warehouse, knowing that countless simulation values were waiting for him inside. He had no time to observe the shifting expressions on Nightingale's face.

Chen Pingchuan fiddled with the card for a long time, still unable to figure out how to use the key. He tried swiping it over the lock's recognition window and even tried tapping randomly on the surface with his hand, but the white-glowing scanner remained motionless, offering no response.

Surely the unlocking method isn't something as low-tech as just inserting the card, right?

Chen Pingchuan mumbled to himself as he pressed the first keycard against the small frame of the recognition window. "Well, what do you know? It fits perfectly."

RUMBLE...

The massive, heavy metal door slowly slid open. As the warehouse's motion-sensor lights activated one by one, everything inside was revealed to Chen Pingchuan. He was instantly stunned by the overwhelming sight and stood frozen for a second.

Although Chen Pingchuan had mentally prepared himself before entering, when the mountain-like pile of Energy Crystals came into view, he still couldn't control the thrill surging within him. It felt as if his heart had stopped for several seconds.

I finally get why, in my past life, some people who won a five-million-dollar lottery would just keel over and die on the spot. This is just too thrilling!

Chen Pingchuan forced his gaze away from the mountain of crystals, suppressed his excitement, and turned his head. He happened to see Nightingale leaning forward, peering curiously into the warehouse.

For a moment, Chen Pingchuan didn't know what to do. Should he continue to deceive Nightingale by claiming he had the ability to absorb Energy Crystals to strengthen himself, or should he come clean and tell her he had a cheat ability?

Lying is not an option. When a close relationship is filled with too many lies, they're bound to be exposed one day. But laying my cards on the table isn't an option either. Never reveal your secrets to anyone—that's a cardinal rule every transmigrator knows. I'm sorry. Don't blame me... blame yourself for knowing too much.

After playing out this bit of internal drama, Chen Pingchuan turned and walked over to Nightingale. He stared solemnly into her eyes until she grew uncomfortable and had to lower her head, avoiding his fiery gaze.

A faint smile touched Chen Pingchuan's lips. "Next, there is one last, extremely arduous and dangerous task. I don't know if you can complete it."

Nightingale looked up, somewhat puzzled, and met his eyes directly. "I can!" she replied firmly.

Nightingale didn't know what task Chen Pingchuan was about to give her, but this wondrous feeling of waiting to be commanded, of only needing to follow orders, was a stark contrast to the mental and physical exhaustion of commanding her own subordinates. It made her feel comfortable and relaxed, and she savored it.

"Do you remember the humiliation from that memory?"

Chen Pingchuan's question made Nightingale's face change drastically. She instinctively gritted her teeth, her lips trembling slightly. "I will never forget it as long as I live!"

Upon hearing this, Chen Pingchuan was delighted. Excellent. That scumbag has to die!

"Alright. Go and gather your subordinates now. While Li Laoqi's guard is down, seize control of the mine.

"Tonight is the perfect opportunity to take him down. Before his reinforcements arrive, we will annihilate these traitors in one fell swoop.

"The benefit of this is that with such an achievement, your team will have something to report when you return to the City of No Night. You don't need to investigate the origins of those mysterious figures; just have your subordinates capture Li Laoqi and report the matter.

"As for the ore in this warehouse, just say that Li Laoqi transferred it away long ago, handing it over to a cyborg nicknamed Special Envoy Xue."

Chen Pingchuan's tone was perfectly calm as he framed the man, showing no trace of awkwardness, as if it were second nature.

At that moment, a gleam flickered in Nightingale's beautiful eyes as she marveled to herself. The man I've chosen is truly extraordinary; even his methods are unorthodox.

One could only say that a woman caught in the vortex of emotion is a fool. At this point, no matter what Chen Pingchuan did, Nightingale would subconsciously idealize it. Her voice was gentle, and the adoration on her face was almost bursting forth.

"What does 'cyborg' mean?"

Chen Pingchuan answered without hesitation, "Cyborgs are people who have had mechanical prosthetics implanted into their bodies. That's what I call them. Why? What do you usually call them?"

"Oh, we usually call them Modified People. There are many types, like Mechanical-Modified, Animal-Modified, and Plant-Modified. Basically, any of those weirdos who like to randomly alter their bodies are all referred to as Modified People."

Chen Pingchuan realized that Nightingale was likely just trying to prolong their conversation to spend more time with him. However, he had a pleasant surprise of his own waiting for him. With that, Chen Pingchuan's expression turned serious and his voice grew low.
