Seeing An Xiaxia come in, he made no sign of trying to make up for what he had just said. Instead, he rolled his eyes at An Xiaxia in disdain.

This manager had always been a pedantic and lofty character, who kept his distance from the gossips. Hence, he knew nothing about the rumor going around these days.

Sheng Yize crossed his legs and tapped the desk casually with his fingertips, asking lazily, “Why do you want to fire her?”

The manager darted a look at An Xiaxia and cleared his throat. “I heard that He Dongyang pushed An Xiaxia out of that restaurant at the last moment. Without her, He Dongyang would have been able to get out himself and he might even be able to save Wen Qing. Hence, she was the reason those two were killed! An Xiaxia, how can you come back when your seniors are dead?”

He couldn’t have used more vitriolic and heartless words. Obviously, he was trying to show his muscle in front of this new president, proving that he wasn’t someone Sheng Yize could mess around with!

An Xiaxia shifted a little, her face growing paler.

“And there’s more. How could you say it was an earthquake in the video? It was almost taken down as a deliberately spread rumor! We didn’t hire you to disgrace the company!” The manager went on criticizing her before changing to a condescending tone. “Since you’re still young, I’m willing to give you another chance. You’re not staying in this city, though. Go work in the countryside branch and temper yourself there!”

Sheng Yize watched casually on the side and didn’t rush to stick up for An Xiaxia.

He was waiting for the woman to plead for his help.

One word from him and the situation could be turned around, saving her day.

However, An Xiaxia didn’t even look at him this whole time, as if the two of them didn’t know each other.

“Mr. Zhao, there’s something I need to tell you.” An Xiaxia brushed her hair away from her face and smiled. “May I ask from what standpoint are you giving me all this criticism?”

She had always come to work with a ponytail, black-rimmed glasses, and no makeup at all. Today, she wore her hair down and had put on a little makeup to give some color to her sickly pale face, which made her look like a different person. That smile alone was stunning enough.

The manager swallowed and thought to himself, “Maybe I should let An Xiaxia keep her job. There’s always a chance that… hoho…”

“As your boss, of course! Why, do you have a problem with that?”

An Xiaxia nodded, then picked up a cup of coffee and splashed it all over the manager’s greasy face.

“First of all, I handed in my resignation letter a week ago, so I’m no longer your employee. Secondly, I was there when my seniors died and I know more than you how painful it was. What I can do now is to live a full life, for myself and for both their sakes. Thirdly, after the incident, I came up with the report as quickly as I could. Even if it wasn’t that accurate, it still helped save a lot of lives. What did you do apart from acting like a smartass afterwards?” An Xiaxia smiled mildly as she said, “Last but not least, you’re a stupid asshole!”

She gave the so-called manager the finger, then marched out of the building proudly.

The onlookers were practically lionizing An Xiaxia now. God knew how much bullshit they had taken from this manager. What An Xiaxia had done just then was awesome!

The manager stood there, utterly dumbfounded. Sheng Yize gracefully rose to his feet with the poise of a perfect gentleman. “Mr. Zhao, I forgot to tell you something.”

“Huh?” The manager looked bemused.

“An Xiaxia is my wife,” Sheng Yize said with a smile. He then casually walked out of the room with his hands behind his back.

Mr. Zhao froze on the spot.
