Chapter 1015: Until We’re Both Hoary-Haired (11)
An Xiaxia picked it up.
Director Yue’s anxious voice came from the other end. “Master Stone, do you have a minute?”
“Um… please call me Xiaxia.” An Xiaxia was a little embarrassed. This Director Yue was way too polite…
“I’m calling because, well, the script is done and filming is on schedule. It’s just… just…” He paused there, which intrigued An Xiaxia greatly. “Just what?”
“The lead roles are working just fine, but there’s this important supporting role, and we contacted a popular young actor at first. However, there’s a clash in his schedule and he turned us down. There were two other suitable candidates, but the actors also declined because of the subject matter…”
An Xiaxia was all the more confused. Why was he telling her about the casting?
“Well, keep looking, I guess? How about contacting some less well-known but good actors? Or maybe alter the character a bit?” Those were the best suggestions she could think of.
Director Yue didn’t sound as anxious all of a sudden. He danced around the subject under discussion and wouldn’t give a straight answer.
An Xiaxia was worried sick. “Gosh, Director Yue! You’re killing me here! Just tell me! Don’t leave your sentence half-finished!”
Director Yue cleared his throat and said, “Actually, I think your husband is perfect for that role…”
He hadn’t recognized Sheng Yize the last time, and only realized that he was the captain of Starry Night after his assistant reminded him.
When the problem with the supporting role surfaced, the first actor Director Yue thought of that had both the looks and the acting skills was Sheng Yize!
“Well… it’s been many years since he left that line of work, I don’t think he’ll do it…”
“I can make sure that he’s paid well!” Director Yue offered generously, then realized how silly that sounded. “Can you, maybe… ask his opinion for me, please?”
An Xiaxia looked up and told Sheng Yize about it.
Sheng Yize didn’t even lift his eyelids. “I see.”
An Xiaxia knew very well that the “I see” meant that he had acknowledged it, but would never accept the role.
“I’m sorry, Director Yue. I think you should try someone else…”
“Wait!” Director Yue wouldn’t give up. “Please put Sheng Yize on the line. I’d like to talk to him myself.”
That was a reasonable request, so An Xiaxia passed the phone to Sheng Yize.
Sheng Yize exchanged some pleasantries with the director, sounding disinterested.
However, he gripped the phone tighter at something Director Yue said.
“This is your wife’s work. Don’t you want it to be perfect? It’s really an excellent character; you can have a look at the book. Moreover, I think it was based on a character you played in a TV show some time ago.”
Director Yue hung up after that. He didn’t press, but left the decision to Sheng Yize.
That made Sheng Yize ponder. After An Xiaxia fell asleep, he found the book online.
He was a very fast reader and finished the whole book in a little over an hour.
That supporting role was called Jiye.
He had black hair, wore black from head to toe, and was an unparalleled swordsman.
It was indeed very familiar.
It was… a character he had played once.
It was Yehuan from “The Tale of the Banished Immortal.”
Sheng Yize smiled, as handsome as ever.
“Do you really want to see me act?” he whispered.
An Xiaxia was drifting in and out of sleep and replied in a sleepy voice, “Sure. Pepsi can see you on TV, then…”
“Aren’t you afraid that I may go make babies with other women?” Sheng Yize teased her.
“Hm… you’re not going anywhere.”
“That’s very confident of you…” Sheng Yize murmured. He then smiled. “But you’re absolutely right.”
