Ebony's Fable

Chapter 419: Hex’s Property

"I got it. Level range 1100 to 1230. Neatherfae…" Azeloth disrupted his time of admiring fresh expressions on his wife's face.

It was still bearable that the Toddiums seemed to think humans were ugly but he still tried to get her to have her mask on outdoors. Even more so with danger surrounding them.

"Why is that bad?" Xin started to get chilly and set her wings alight. She nudged him weakly while he fitted the mask on her.

"If the range we got was 999 to 1010, we're still in survivable territory; there is likely only one or maybe even no Saint-ranked monster throughout the Worldcore. But with a Worldcore sit in ranges above 1100, that means Saint-ranked monsters may be born occasionally, perhaps at a rate of 1 to 2 Saints every decade. Worldcores at Legendary rank usually have an apex predator or two and these will hunt down any new Saints but the general population of Saint ranked monsters would still be higher than we'd like."

"Sounds exciting." She had a bob going, a little infected by Ebony's tunes in her head.

"Miss Scarlet. With our foreign energy, we are a prime delicacy for evolutionary traits."

Scarlet Rhael gulped at the word delicacy "We get to hunt unknown delicacies…." He didn't need to see to imagine her licking her lips.

She'd become more and more of a food lover over time. To the point of forgetting things around her once food was on her mind.

Obsession was a trait all of them had, so it wasn't so bad as they knew how to direct obsession and make use of it, but her gluttony had been escaping her control slightly. Ebony was a little worried the Tapewyrm she said she'd consumed fully was still consuming her.

The descent lasted over an hour with Ebony creating a crater where he landed, his wife flapping hard enough to stay afloat and make a gentle landing while the two Toddiums continued to hover above ground. They used their suits' abilities for a bit more before removing their helmets, leg and hand covering. Their webbed feet and hands secreted slime all over the ground before they relaxed their tight shoulders a little.

Patting Dusk into the ground he reported, "No threat within 600 kilometres."

"Kilometres… conversion found. Our sensors don't go that far out but sir, there are a couple of level 1000 Emperors within our sensors' range of 228 kilometres." Aethel the younger brother, countered.

"Wait here, I'll get us dinner. You can prepare. Azeloth and Aethel, I'm trusting you with my wife's safety."

"Sir, wait!"

"Ma'am we have to stick together." Azaloth hurried to convince their employers.

"Do you see what we're standing on?" She replied.

"….snow?"

"Ice. He's in his element. Now cut that tree down and chop some firewood for me." She didn't feel all that worried.

The tree her intuition pointed to suddenly broke in half in the middle.

Rime Xin blinked twice when she saw her husband's figure cannonball through the thick tree. Her face heated up a little. "Stop fooling around!"

"...They are also a lot stronger than me." He didn't complain about the fact that they'd just emptied their mana pools against the Void Tardigrade's sneeze like attack, or actual sneeze.

"Hurry up before I get you myself." She knew he was making excuses for having fun. It'd been an hour since their fall, mana wasn't an immediate issue anymore.

"Mmm."

"What are you waiting for? Get to chopping." Xin hurried the Toddiums along. Perhaps she was too hard on him, they did just get fully drained of mana moments ago.

"Ye-yes ma'am!" Aethel stood at attention.

"Sheesh she reminds me of ol' mama." Azeloth's tongue licked out like a snake.

"What did you say?"

"I said you're a loving wife, ma'am!"

"That wasn't what you said, and I don't like liars, but…no lie detected. Go on, we got to get a fire going before the main dish arrives." Xin hummed again when her Intuition told her that her husband was distracted by shiny new alien techniques.

Despite all the clarity, she knew how he could appear distracted rather easily. New spells, new techniques are some of the easiest ways to get him to overdo mental simulations in his head.

When she felt her husband's emotions go bored all of a sudden his opponent's fates were already decided after he heard her stomach growl earlier.

He was taking his own sweet time but that gave her the chance to prepare her cook station.

She tried her best to be polite about it, but she still came off strong when asking the Toddium brothers to go away from her cook station, even with Black in charge. The slime they were producing was putting her off.

With the stewed bull kidneys almost ready, she considered more dishes that could recover energy. Her energy.

This trip was a good break for her since she couldn't bear to get too close to her husband outdoors or she'll explode with shyness but after 3 days, it was becoming unbearable.

The luxury ship they were on was picked by her husband thanks to their built-in training room that allowed them to continue Conditioning even on long trips. That gave her a place to exert and burn her energy.

She didn't know if it was her grandmother's words about all daily frustrations being funneled into lust after her nuptial night or that she had already discovered she was naughty before her wedding.

Now that she had finally tasted the stories, she knew that all the older ladies, her friend Mallory and the rabbit beastmen saleswoman were all lying to her.

It was nonsense for them to say female warriors needed a man one evolution above them to have a satisfying nightlife. She couldn't even get out of bed sometimes, and she knew he was still holding back for her.

"Ark Elmpeld. Distant evolution of Elmpoeld." Ebony dragged the stronger creature over by one of its three scaled tails. Scarlet saw the creature's anatomy and roughly understood how it fought and what conditions caused it to evolve like so, informing her about the conditions nearby and what type of dangers there are.

Instinctually and also from her Profession.

Being 12 metres long and almost as wide, there should be enough for 4 of them. Miss Wiggles was exempted from dinner as she fell back into hibernation during the descent.

Instead of her dear swords, two large knives were dragged out of her knife case, and her arms waved. As expected, her beloved hunter got the Ark Elmpeld in two pieces with only the head decapitated. The living creature was fresh till she personally slayed it and drained its blood. He was truly a considerate man, keeping the hunt alive even after decapitation.

'No ice within its flesh, so it's winter time and not an ice-bound area.' She learned yet another piece of information about their surroundings.

The paws and claws told her about the land not always being covered in ice. The presence of 6 lungs told her about the air and the quality of air. The short legs….didn't have to tell her that the gravity here was utterly ridiculous.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

"We can handle the dissect-" The taller Toddium offered.

Her husband placed his palms up to quieten the distractions, it was her turn to fall into focus.

The new biology didn't stump her as her kitchen cleavers swam under and across scales and skin. The internal flesh and musculature were nothing alien, the fat was viscous.

Taking 3 minutes to study the creature and its weakness while she separated its parts, she felt the gazes of growing fright from their bodyguards.

They were level 902 and 897 Emperors with expensive gear so they had some confidence against Grade 4 Emperors, while maybe having a good chance of success against a Grade 5 at a cost. That general grading made them elite for people within the Hex Region who hadn't reached level 1000.

'These two organs…I've never seen or read about them. Earth and metal mana, veins…I see, they work together to produce a metallic compound and it is sent to its scales for additional protection. A survival-focused creature.' Xin analysed the blood she drew from the unknown organs.

Her affinity with earth and metal was only enough to perceive them, maybe to manipulate if she tried hard enough, but it wasn't worth the effort. She didn't exactly have dozens of copies of herself to train hard for her in areas she was not talented at. Besides, blood magic encompassed earth and metal, and she could technically separate them from blood with her current skill.

Although it wasn't exactly Legendary meat that she had during her wedding, she was satisfied with the quality of this fresh ingredient.

Unlike Ebony, who was a step late when it came to sensation of skill limits and Natural Potential itself, she had a far keener sense for them. Thanks to her Intuition.

If Ebony gained 1 unit of Natural Potential from a meal, she would gain closer to 6 thanks to her Physique, and practically all of their hunt's blood was consumed by her.

Although she knew he had a digestion skill to keep up, the volume of food she takes in is still higher. With her blood stock and her mask now having magical vein circuits connected to it to carry her blood and energy, she could eat without getting fat, bleed without bleeding out.

Of course, this was a secret from her husband. Otherwise she would be too embarrassed to say she slightly adjusts the size and shape of her body to be the most appealing version of herself for him. It was hardly a lie since her mask's vein circuits were very limited at the moment, but there was no need to go so far for a small increment in energy capacity.

After prepping the main course, she took out her homemade sauce. She was finally proud to call herself a chef with a personal flavour. It will always be a work in progress but at least she got a definitive base flavour. Spicy, sweet and a tang of sour.

She trusted Ebony with brushing the meat with the sauce while she got the fire ready for roasting. It was a simple way to get a taste of the meat itself before using it for more complicated dishes.

"Do the Toddiums eat meat?" The chef held a tray of stew, vegetables and 3 loaves of freshly baked bread.

"We're not picky. The more food options, the easier it is to survive space." Aethel answered with a lick before taking the tray of food he was offered. "You are very prepared, to even have flour ready…your spatial storage must be vast."

"It's alright, we should still hunt for fresh food any chance we get." There was no such thing as too much food or overpacking, but she couldn't fill 100% of her spatial storage with food, as there were other necessities for survival in foreign places.

Black lost to Red's struggle and let her take over. Her husband's aura rinsed her bloodlust like a waterfall hitting an unmoving rock. Only around him, does she have this kind of clarity with Red. Otherwise, the professional bodyguards would have already been sliced up or roasted.

"While we're here, I'm in charge." Red tied Black up with Intent. "Oh, and take all your damned lust back."

Black cried out in horror, it was going to be suffocating.

Watching her own body change, she stomped out the naivety that Black had before she sauntered over and sat beside her husband. "Say ah." She pushed herself as close as possible, looking at his unperturbed expression but sensing his disbelief at how unashamed she was since she liked keeping their intimacy private.

"How is it? Delicious?" She caught herself smiling, 'he likes my eyes so much more this way.'

She was supposed to be scarier, with her eyes literally leaking the desire to see blood. Her gluttony for blood was heightened significantly. But she was entrancing him, and that made her feel all bubbly inside. Although the emotions quickly funnel to Black instead, they were one and the same.

"Mmm." He chewed and swallowed almost at the same time. "I can feed myself." He didn't immediately open up for the second bite she had already raised to his lips.

"I know you can. Why? Are you shy? Cute." She fired off words in her excited state.

"No."

"Then open wide. And chew more."

Perhaps spending mental energy to accelerate herself and watch him eat in slow motion wasn't the best use of her important stamina, but she'd do it all over again to feel this moment again, as long as she could.

When they were done eating, the Toddiums finally felt the situation ease up and dared to speak up.

"We've managed to contact the ship and share locations, they will be here to pick us up in approximately 3 to 4 weeks. An assault team has been sent moments ago and will reach us in 10 to 12 days should their trip be unhindered."

"What's their damage with the Void Tardigrade?"

"Minimal, it disappeared not long after sneezing and sending us here.

They were not a luxury service for nothing. Space was enormous, and she didn't expect any help in such a short time to be honest. But her reliable man had the power of money and learned how to use it to a degree.

"We have 3 to 4 weeks to play. What say you, hubby? I'm feeling queasy all this time and can't pinpoint where the hostility is coming from. All around us."

"Mmm, I know where we are. The second gen had been here in the far past. No people, only monsters and some aberrant creatures who tried to remove the Worldcore's Essence to gain a Class. This Ark Elmpeld seems to be an evolved form of what the Xengs found. The hostility is coming from the planet itself. I'm just not sure why its location is not known as a Saint-ranked Worldcore."

"About that, our company found out why," Azeloth reported.

"We did?" Aethel blinked twice and licked his bowl clean.

She was glad they were delighted by the taste. Using intuition while seasoning food wasn't exactly easy. It still worked out well.

"This is one of Hex's properties."

"Oh, is that true." Her husband was weird; the group of spirits in her bracelet doesn't just talk to people normally.

They only do their job and connect users with the Eidolon network itself. More surprising was the fact that Hex responds as much as it could.

"….Yes. Your presence was an accident, you shall not be seen as trespassers but as a natural occurrence of unaccounted entry." This time, it even spoke out loud to keep her and the bodyguards in the loop.

"What are you doing with this place?" Red asked, even with her state, she knew better than to mess with not Hex specifically but Eidolon's property.

Still, hostility will be met with hostility regardless of who or how strong her opponent is.

"Merely another one of numerous resource avenues. You are free to hunt for food or even take some natural materials but overdo it and we shall….see it as an attack and robbery."

Hex grew silent immediately after.

"We simply have to hold out till our ride arrives. As long as we're not unlucky, the weeks should breeze past us without any danger." Aethel tried not to question why Hex gave them attention, this was after all Hex's land, so it wasn't too surprising.

Red put the empty tray down gently and leaned into Ebony's ears, his one weak spot. "I'm feeling uncomfortable from the all-around hostility."

"I'll remove it." His replies rarely disappoint her.

"Wait. You do your thing; I need an after-meal workout."

"Wh-what thing? Sir, ma'am, I strongly suggest we sit still and wait. I can go scout the area for a better lay of the land while my brother guards-" Aethel stood up without tossing the wooden utensils around. His motion earned him her lazy glare.

Sensing his fear, she relented and closed her mask's transparency that pushes and sharpens her Intent. Not being able to see her eyes anymore, he was slowly recovering from sensing the resting killing Intent in her eyes.

It was a pity they were not the best amongst their group, if just exchanging eye contact could lock him up for a moment.

The so-called assault force that was sent ahead of their ship was probably led by their team captain, someone they've met once when they boarded the ship. Another Toddium, and now that she learned about them, likely brother of Azeloth and Aethel.

"Relax Aethel, I'm not sure what the average is compared to the old knowledge I have but this Ark Elmpeld is at best a Grade 4 Emperor with exceptionally high strength and bodily defence, closing in on Grade 6 in those areas alone."

"That sounds deadly!"

One of Ebony's clones spawned out of his new staff, and it got to cleaning up around the campfire.

Their trailer and mobile home were taken out, and Dusk was stabbed into the snowy earth.

Xin watched transparent pigeons and wolves shape and form around them, one after the other, ten after the next.

Ebony passed her one fist-sized mana ore of his mana, encased within was a lump of crystal. One of his Will Relay Buffers. A fluffy owl was formed over its body before it latched itself on her shoulder. She immediately recognized it as one of Hoarfrost Glade's owl species.

Caressing its head as if Ebony could feel it, she gave him a peck on the cheek before bursting into flight.

She needed to unleash this unrest somewhere as soon as possible.
