Back in the day, players would do PvP by crossing between the Viajok continent, Doa Bisachs, and the Jeojajok continent—uh… whatever it was called. People kept calling it Butterfly House or Moth House so often that I honestly can’t remember its actual name anymore.Anyway, when you crossed into the enemy faction’s land, you’d be hit with debuffs according to racial traits and your stats would drop—but the fame rewards were high, so if you were confident in your gear and control, you'd go in regardless of your level to enjoy the battle. We’d raze villages to the ground, storm major cities with swarms of players, and sometimes even occupy leveling fields to completely block enemy players from grinding. That kind of chaos eventually led to fewer new players joining, and so the contested zone called Atelierna got released earlier than originally scheduled… Still, there was a kind of romantic thrill to those days. There are still a few players who cross into enemy territory to troll newbies or take screenshots alone and admire the scenery—but they’re rare. Nowadays, Butterfly House and Moth House are just leftover leveling and quest zones. With server locks and no new player influx, they’re basically abandoned. It’s a bit of a shame. PvPing while moving across continents with different environments was a unique experience. Lost in a flickering memory, I moved my character after loading into the zone. Gang Jaegyung’s screen showed that he’d loaded in too and was already leaving the town.We decided on a meeting point—near the water, close to the housing district. To reach the Viajok housing district, Gang Jaegyung would have to cross over into our territory, which meant heading toward a major body of water—lake, river, or ocean. According to the setting, Butterfly House and Moth House share the same land vertically, with identical terrain layouts and waterways. Unless you dig through the literal ground, the only way across is underwater. You’d think flying would work—but the border between the two is blocked off by water, so even if you fly, you have to swim at some point. And since you can’t fly with wet wings, you’d be stuck if there’s no land to stand on nearby. Definitely not a good option. The nearest body of water is the big lake right outside the town… but that one’s laced with poison to keep enemy factions out. Step into it and you’ll get hit with a deadly poison debuff—one slip and you’re toast. So instead, we opted for a cleaner river, even if it meant a bit more walking.Gang Jaegyung got there first and dove straight in. The screen faded briefly, then after loading, showed Retaking a Class floating in the crystal-clear water. He swam upward through the current quickly.I arrived at the riverbank and parked my character, watching his screen. Back in the day, you’d sometimes run into Jeojajok mid-crossing like this. Since combat wasn’t possible underwater, players would either pass each other awkwardly or chase the other down and kill them as soon as they resurfaced. If you were being chased and knew you couldn’t win, you’d just stay underwater indefinitely. Some people would wiggle their characters side to side and type “7979…” or “52” in chat—cute messages that occasionally got them spared. As I was lost in those old memories, Gang Jaegyung’s voice came from beside me.“Ko-young, do you like swimming?”“Swimming?”He must’ve gotten curious watching his character swim. Swimming, huh. It’s been ages. It is refreshing in the heat, but crowded pools stress me out, so I naturally started avoiding them. If anything, I prefer splashing around in shallow waters at the coast more than actual swimming.“It’s whatever. Do you like it?”“I guess… kind of the same.”Right, Huskies apparently don’t love water either…I snorted quietly at the thought, and that’s when Gang Jaegyung said playfully:“Cats don’t like water either, though.”I caught the teasing in his tone immediately. With a half-laugh, I threw my arm around his shoulder and yanked him into a headlock. As he laughed and squealed, I smacked his round head a few times.“Nyeong-nyeong punch!”Every time my hand landed on his skull, little tok tok tok sounds were followed by his exaggerated whining. I hadn’t even tightened the headlock—he could’ve escaped any time. He probably said the cat thing knowing exactly what was coming.Once I’d smacked him enough, I gave him a proper flick to the forehead as a finishing blow and let him go. His hair was a mess, his face flushed red, and he was panting through a grin.“All I said was that cats don’t like water, and you go this hard on me.”“Yeah? And I just felt like punching you. That’s all.”He pouted immediately.“You’re so mean. All I did was talk about you.”“Yeah, yeah. Keep moving.”I gave his shoulder a casual pat. He glanced at me with twitching lips, then # Nоvеlight # quickly turned back to the screen and started moving his character again. As Retaking a Class rose toward the surface, the water around him darkened. It was reminiscent of the deep sea—but sparkles drifted through the water like stars, making it feel more like the night sky. Or maybe the night sea. I vaguely remembered reading that the deep-sea theme was designed specifically to reduce fear for players who felt anxious underwater.Soon the color of the water lightened, and his character broke the surface—he’d made it to our land.He rotated the camera, scanning for where the shore was—and there I was, standing on the beach waiting for him. Seeing that, Gang Jaegyung moved his character toward me.As the water got shallower, Retaking a Class shook off the water from his wings and body, then ran toward me across the wet shore.“Follow me.”I hit M to open the map and led the way.In fields outside of towns, NPCs only spawn at set locations, so as long as we avoided those, there was no issue walking with Gang Jaegyung. And most of those NPCs were weak anyway—barely more durable than paper. The real problem was the town. We had to get through it to reach the housing zone.Worse, this was a high-level quest town—its guard NPCs were tough. No matter how good Gang Jaegyung’s gear was, cutting through every NPC here would be impossible. Even stealth skills wouldn’t help—guards and sentries could spot stealthed players immediately. But that didn’t mean there was no way. I wouldn’t have brought him without a plan. It just took a little more time and effort.“Go this way.”I led Gang Jaegyung toward the outskirts of town. The area was surrounded on two sides by mountains, which made it hard to pass through—but it also meant there were fewer guards watching. All the NPCs were facing inward, so as long as he ducked behind crates and buildings, he could move step by step.Of course, the buildings weren’t seamlessly connected, so there were still plenty of exposed areas. If he crossed at the wrong angle, he’d end up in plain view of an NPC.That’s where I came in.I hid him behind a hut, then walked over to an NPC facing that direction. I hit the interaction key—F.[- Doman: Ah, welcome, Holy Knight! It’s been a while since you visited our village. Is there something you need?]There sure is. Smuggling a Jeojajok. As soon as the NPC started talking, I waved to Gang Jaegyung. He slipped around to where the crates were stacked high. First move—success.Once he was clear, I canceled the interaction. The NPC cheerfully said, “Let me know if you need anything!” and I immediately approached the next one. Gang Jaegyung moved again and hid, and as soon as he was safe, I repeated the process. We were steadily making our way through the maze of NPCs when a roaming guard NPC appeared. These guys had much wider fields of vision—and you couldn’t talk to them.Instead, in line with their patrol behavior, they’d turn their heads toward sounds—especially skill sounds. To keep him from spotting Gang Jaegyung, I stood at the edge and spammed skills. Sure enough, the guard turned toward me and walked forward. With that, he passed by without spotting Gang Jaegyung hiding behind the building.“Alright, let’s go.”Roaming guard—cleared.I resumed chatting with the NPCs, and eventually got Gang Jaegyung all the way to the other entrance of the village near the housing area. Finally, I distracted the two entrance guards at the gate, and Gang Jaegyung sprinted out and ran far ahead.“We made it!”He whispered like someone who had just completed a stealth mission in real life. I was pretty satisfied too—so I gave his head a few approving pats.
