I gave the general quarters alarm as the entire fleet started to move.
I couldn't say this enough but it really was cool to be part of an entire fleet of ships that were moving off to participate in a raid.
Just watching the ships floating alongside you with even bigger ships in the background was awe inspiring to say the least.
"Ready to jump, Daddy!" Renata reported from the pilot's seat.
I nodded, "Synchronise our jump with the flagship. As they said, we will be jumping into enemy territory and they might even be prepared to assault us at the warp location itself, be prepared for combat."
A chorus of 'Aye's resounded throughout the bridge and we maintained our formation as we waited for the signal to jump.
Right as the five minute mark passed, the ships around us started their warping sequence as the flagship started their warp.
I braced myself as our ship also started our warping process at the same time as the Warp Gate initiated our launch to another system.
The space around us stretched and everything went completely dark for a moment before they snapped back into existence, the Warp Gate depositing us in another location.
"Enemy contact!! Weapons free! Fire at will!" The Vice Admiral's voice came from over the comms.
I peeked at the map and it instantly lit up with a ton of red dots across from us that pretty much outnumbered the number of blue dots on our side by three to one.
I did a quick survey of the screens that popped out in front of me showing the composition of the rebel fleet and it seems that while they had the numbers, the biggest ship they had was an E Class Cruiser acting as their flagship.
In other words, they had the numbers but we had the size and firepower.
Still, that was no reason to let our guard down because they still had the station as a defense outpost and the guns on that station could blow up our battleships before they could get close to it.
And besides… In the last civil war, Amber's side won even though they had inferior firepower in terms of ships' guns so who knows how this battle would turn out?
Also… I can see why the Vice Admiral called it a ship buster cannon because there's a giant cannon that was almost half the size of the station sticking out at the top and pointed in our direction.
The only reason why it wasn't being used right now was because we were out of its effective range.
Almost immediately, lasers and kinetic rounds started flying through the space between the two sides while fighters and bombers charged at each other to close the distance.
"Alright girls! Break through to the station!" I ordered before standing up to make the signature pose necessary for my next command.
Oh you know the pose~
The one where the person stands with one hand stretched in front and the other hand on their hips~
"Fire main cannons!!"
Lea responded to my order and the guns on our ship fired at their targets.
I got to watch a C Class Corvette's shields being shattered by our High Intensity Lasers before a laser from another ship sliced through their hull.
Our own shields flared to life as a laser from their side struck against us, rapidly draining our defenses.
Without needing any command from me, Renata engaged our ship's engines and executed evasive manoeuvres, avoiding the rest of the laser to prevent our shield from being drained further.
Lea immediately responded with a shot of our own, our lasers striking against the Artillery Corvette that tried to shoot at us.
Its shields were definitely inferior to ours because it didn't get a chance to move out of the way before their shields shattered, allowing our second shot to beam through their hull and melt a hole in their ship.
A stray kinetic shell then pierced through their side and the middle of the ship was blown up to separate it into two halves.
Tsk… Since we didn't land the final shot, it means that the reward for taking down that ship will be split between us and whoever fired that.
Whatever, we're not here just for the money anyway.
Right then, the Battleships on our side fired their main guns and I got to watch several beams of lasers blasting through the rebel's formations, the ships that were caught in the beam instantly disintegrating away into scrap.
A hole was now open in their formation and us Mercenaries did not waste this chance.
"Renata! Go!" I ordered.
Our ship accelerated towards the opening at the same time as the other Mercs, all of us aiming to push in through the gap to make a dash towards the station.
Our main objective here wasn't to destroy their fleet after all so there was no need for us to stay here and trade shots with them.
If they wanted to chase after us, it would mean splitting themselves up which would only make it easier for the Zwerger navy to pick them off.
As we were charging through, some of the ships on the rebel's side switched their targets to us and rained down fire on us.
The two Mercenary Corvettes in front of me got blown apart and we had to execute evasive manoeuvres to weave past their wreckages.
Lea returned fire as best as she could but a few shots still came crashing against our shields which thankfully managed to hold up against the onslaught of projectiles.
Ries must be working overtime in ensuring our shields stay up in the workshop right now so we have her to thank for that.
A few of the rebel ships broke off and tried to chase after us in an attempt to stop us from reaching the station.
But the moment they showed their backs, the Zwerger navy opened fire on their exposed flanks and backs, blasting most of them apart in an instant.
The few that managed to get through started shooting into our formation but there were just too many Mercs here for them to make a difference as we also returned fire on them, easily blasting them apart before they could even reach us.
Without them being able to close the gap, we quickly blew through the gap and headed straight for the station.
The Mercs with the faster ships were already accelerating towards the structure in anticipation of being the first to board it.
But as they were closing in, turrets suddenly popped out from the sides of the station and fired upon them.
The lead Merc tried to evade them and turn back to safety but several energy projectiles pierced through their ship's engines and it ended up spiralling out of control before exploding in a ball of flame.
Shit, no wonder they didn't even try that hard to stop us because they also added more defenses to the station to deal with boarding parties…
All of us fanned out to make ourselves less of a target as we started to shoot at the turrets, destroying them to open up a path to reach the station.
Several more Mercs flying Heavy Bombers tried to get close to do a bombing run on the turrets but a number of the turrets immediately turned their attention on them.
Three of them were shot down immediately but two of them got through and released some kind of missile which exploded to release a cluster of smaller missiles that sped towards the turrets.
Several explosions occurred one after the other as the turrets were blown up on one side of the station, giving us an opening to push through.
Your sacrifices will not be in vain, fellow Mercs!
We pushed closer to the station now that the firepower of the station had lessened considerably, shrugging off the blows coming from the few turrets remaining before returning fire to finish them off.
Several of the Mercs headed directly towards the hangar bay which was of course being guarded so they had to blow their way through the horde of guards that were trying to stop them from boarding the station.
The other bigger ships went for the station's docking arms and while we could also do that, we opted for the stealth insertion instead.
Instead of entering that way, Renata would fly us close to the station and we would spacewalk our way to a maintenance hatch to slip into the station that way.
Hopefully that will allow us to reach the station's weapon control room faster which would then allow us to turn the station's weapons on the rebels which would net us the most rewards from this operation~
As our ship accelerated towards the station, I got up on my feet and nodded at the girls, "Alright everyone! Get ready for boarding action! Get yourselves equipped and meet at the cargo bay!"
Finally, time to test out my new halberd!
