Chapter 72: We Came In Peace

Leonis pointed his finger to the east. "In fact, we live on a continent connected by a great bridge to your continent."

Keno turned his gaze to the east, trying to see anything on the horizon, but all he could see was the darkness of the night and the towering buildings rising majestically as the sky washed them with rainwater. He looked at Leonis without blinking. "So where are the Zurix?"

Leonis pointed to the north. "They inhabit a continent over there."

Keno scratched his head in confusion. "So how were they able to get in here with this shield surrounding our continent?"

Leonis looked at the shield in the sky. "This shield is not fortified from the center. There is a large gap in it."

Keno stared intently at the sky. "Do you mean we are not protected from the sky?"

"Yes, I told you before that there was a malfunction in the towers. The dome was not completed, and there is a gap at the top large enough for some of them to enter. But they cannot enter in large numbers yet unless a breach occurs from the front, as happened three years ago when they invaded your city and destroyed it, as you see now. But fortunately for you, you were able to drive them out and save what could be saved, but it was too late. Your last refuge was shattered."

Keno remembered what had happened to New Atlantis before his eyes and the destruction that had befallen it. He was the first of the eight to emerge from the tower five years ago and had seen with his own eyes what had happened. In fact, he had played a major role in the mistake that had occurred and still felt the pain and regret killing him whenever he remembered his mistake.

Keno looked at him with a sad gaze radiating remorse. Leonis said, pointing to the west, "It seems that the humans have moved to the west and are encamped there. All your forces and a large army of humans are concentrated there. They left this part because of the raids that were falling on them from the sky since the first invasion. But despite all this, only a small number of the Zurix have entered to scout your weaknesses, your positions, and how to eliminate you permanently. We learned later that after they had fully identified your strengths and weaknesses, they began to prepare a huge army that would enter from the sky to destroy everything. You will not be able to escape with your few weapons and forces against this massive, overwhelming army and this destructive power. Even we will not be able to stand against them alone."

Keno was apprehensive about what he heard, and he felt his metal limbs creak. "So what are we to do?" he said in a gloomy tone. "Are we to escape from our planet so as not to become extinct, only to come here and become extinct? This is the last city of humanity. And it must remain, no matter what happens."

Leonis looked at him and made another foolish, artificial smile. "And that is why I came to you. We will extend a helping hand to you. Together, we will destroy the Zurix forever and come out into the sun after being trapped underground for years, fleeing destruction. And together, we will be able to create real feelings for ourselves, to coexist in peace and not repeat the mistake we made with our creators before, the consequences of which affected your planet, our planet, and the lives of everyone."

"And how will you do that?" Keno said with skepticism and suspicion, a feeling of unease washing over him. "How will you help us?"

Leonis stared at Keno for a long time as if thinking, then said, "That depends on you. I want you to carry out this mission and leave the rest to me."

"And what is this mission?" Keno asked.

Keno stared at Leonis for a long time, thinking about the plan he had given him to destroy the Zurix permanently and make the planet live in peace through the Lunix and humans. "But this plan is very risky," he said in a bewildered tone. "What if the Zurix sneak in at once and ambush us? What if they eliminated the rest of humans and put a ground here? It is risky."

Leonis replied with his usual electronic coolness, "That won't happen, because I will contact our resistance army and make them advance toward the shield. So don't worry, no one will be able to penetrate our army and get close. They will recalculate a thousand times before they take a step, and they may not even try to approach you at all after we unite our forces. And I know that we will coexist with humans in peace, because we are peaceful and have artificial emotions that prevent us from killing, stealing, and other bad things."

Keno thought for a moment and felt a mixture of emotions stirring within him, suffocating him, tying him down, and stopping his usual sober thinking. He ignored it and said, "So you will inform your resistance army to advance here while we execute the plan to open a path for them to cross inside? It sounds like a good plan, but I have one request to make it easier."

"And what is it?"

Keno sighed deeply, then said, "We will look for the rest of the humans with special abilities like me."

Leonis replied as he looked at the sun that had emerged from behind the clouds. The rain had stopped, the lightning had subsided, and a rainbow shone in the sky. "Alright, we will look for them. But my indicators show that there are only two other people in this city, and they are close to the path we will be taking."

"What do you mean?" Keno replied with emotion. "Are you saying that the rest of them have been killed?"
