My Demon Friends

Chapter 376 Another One

"Were you guys just playing cards?"

Baozi walked over, holding a small red umbrella. She spotted a pair of poker cards scattered on the table, while Tuanzi was seriously collecting all the face cards, piling them up in front of her.

Baozi's heart melted a bit.

She took small steps over, sat down close to Tuanzi, and spread out the cards in front of her. Quickly, she picked out a queen and placed it in front of Tuanzi.

Tuanzi meowed at her.

"What did Lord Dumpling say?" Baozi immediately looked at Zhou Li.

"She said don't touch them."

"..."

Baozi did not agree with this interpretation. She believed that Tuanzi must be politely thanking her. However, she withdrew her hand anyway, no longer touching the cards on the table, and instead began to meticulously close her umbrella.

Many girls seem to have a bit of obsessive-compulsive disorder when it comes to this—they must smooth out every fold of the umbrella, carefully roll it up, making sure the pleats form a regular spiral in the process, and then store it in its case to call it a job well done.

Baozi was no different.

After putting away her umbrella, she glanced at the glaring sunlight outside and rolled her eyes. "It's kind of hot, isn't it..."

"Is the dorm also hot?" Zhou Li asked.

"The dorm isn't hot." Baozi pondered for a moment, then stealthily sized them up. "You guys must be pretty hot here, right?"

"It's okay as long as we're not directly in the sun."

"If it's hot, why not go buy some ice cream or iced milk tea?"

"I haven't even digested my meal yet."

"Oh..."

Baozi looked away weakly, somewhat disappointed.

Suddenly, she noticed an additional sign-up sheet on the table, already filled out, and she blinked. "Are you open for business already?"

"Yeah, recruited an old friend."

"That's worth celebrating..."

"Not buying."

"Oh..." Baozi lowered her head and glanced at Tuanzi collecting cards. "What were you guys playing just now?"

"Truth or Dare."

"Okay, I'll join in then."

"That makes five of us."

"Oh..."

"We can form teams," Mianmian immediately suggested. "We could have two people on one team, win together and lose together."

"Great!"

"Okay then..."

Just then, Tuanzi had finished collecting the Jacks, Queens, Kings, and the two Jokers, piling them up like treasures in front of her, even lying on them and guarding them with her little paws. However, a mischievous hand reached over and ruthlessly pulled all the cards from under her.

"Stupid Huai Xu! Stupid Huai Xu! Stupid Huai Xu! Someone, arrest Stupid Huai Xu!" Tuanzi was livid.

"BLEH~~"

Tuanzi attempted to snatch the cards back, but her abilities were clearly no match for Huai Xu's. Out of frustration, she began biting Huai Xu, but to no effect; it didn't even faze him. In the end, all Tuanzi could do was watch him shuffle the cards and lower her head in helplessness.

In the critical moment, only Baozi looked toward Tuanzi. Taking the opportunity, she patted her head and said with determination, "Lord Dumpling, don't be afraid. I'll rescue you soon!"

Tuanzi just murmured weakly, "Liar~"

And then buried her head again, staying silent.

However, as it turned out, Baozi wasn't lying; she soon began her winning streak.

Correspondingly, the two foot-scratching cuties began their streak of bad luck.

Whenever Baozi won, she would almost certainly choose them.

Firstly, because they were on the same team, winning meant they could make two requests. Secondly, because Baozi knew that with Huai Xu present, they would definitely not choose Truth—the two foot-scratching cuties had too many embarrassing secrets.

So, after the first game ended, Tuanzi had a new deck of poker cards, and Baozi was enjoying her iced milk tea.

The second game was ice cream.

The third, the fourth...

It went on until Zhou Li could hardly stand it anymore. He put his cards down with a headache and said, "Your card skills are too good, aren't they?"

"I've practiced," Baozi said calmly.

"Why would a girl like you practice something like this?" Zhou Li was puzzled.

"It's useful."

"Useful for what?"

"Useful for the New Year."

"..."

Zhou Li felt a bit uncomfortable. Although he wouldn't suffer any punishment for losing and could even enjoy a cup of milk tea or some ice cream, there was a problem. The two foot-scratching cuties, trying to appear generous in front of Huai Xu, had volunteered to buy the best varieties. But the main issue was that there was no fun in constantly losing.

Brother Nan, behind him, seemed to sense his emotions and said in a deep voice, "I can beat her..."

Zhou Li didn't hear her.

Cotton Swab and Huai Xu didn't hear her either.

Brother Nan looked around, feeling somewhat sad. "Fine, you're all ignoring me. I'm completely disregarded now, aren't I?"

As she spoke, her chin was still propped on Zhou Li's shoulder, moving with each word, and the warm breath on Zhou Li's neck made him a bit itchy. He hurriedly took a sip of the cold milk tea to suppress the discomfort.

Time marched on steadily through the boredom, and before he knew it, the sun had already started to set.

"YAWN~~"

Zhou Li yawned, stretching.

There was a heavy weight on his back.

As he stretched, the weight on his back lightened slightly; clearly, Brother Nan was accommodating his movements. But as soon as he finished stretching, she promptly lay back on top of him.

Zhou Li admired her for being able to lie on his back all afternoon without changing her posture...

Doesn't that make her uncomfortable?

As mealtime approached, more students appeared on the road. They packed up their cards and began to focus on their business again.

"Hey, Club President, Brother Nan," Chen Yang came over with his meal tray. "How many people have you recruited?"

"..."

Brother Nan's face involuntarily darkened a bit.

Zhou Li quickly gave him a look, trying to stop him from asking such questions—at this time, the presidents of two other clubs were present, and they couldn't let Brother Nan lose face in front of other presidents.

However, Chen Yang was a bit of a simpleton and continued to ask Brother Nan, "Recruited dozens already, right? I was thinking of joining your club, but then I thought, I play games all day and rarely even go to the basketball club, so forget it."

Brother Nan glanced at him. "Solo tonight, father-son match."

Chen Yang immediately shuddered.

Brother Nan might not be skilled, but Chen Yang wasn't much better. Coupled with a Barbarian King who lands critical hits with every strike, how many could stand against that? Moreover, before the solo, Brother Nan would clarify the rules. A so-called 'father-son match' meant if she won, you called her 'Daddy'; if she lost, she called you 'Son'. You had to agree before starting. Brother Nan was someone who played by the rules and would never renege on a deal.

Of course, you couldn't refuse either.

Just then, Huai Xu poked Zhou Li's arm, his gaze fixed unwaveringly to the left.

Zhou Li followed his gaze.

Instantly, his pupils contracted slightly.

He saw a short and plump girl walking down the road, swiveling her head left and right, curiously observing the clubs by the roadside. She looked like she was in a very good mood.

However, on her shoulder was perched a very strange little creature, chatting with her.

Zhou Li exchanged a silent glance with Huai Xu.

Through their eye contact, Huai Xu conveyed his thoughts very clearly: Should we recruit this girl to keep you company? That way you'd have another of your kind.

After a moment of thought, Zhou Li picked up Tuanzi, who was playing with the cards. "I think I see a junior from high school. I'm going to check it out, ask around, and see if we can add another member to our club."

Brother Nan simply nodded, letting him go, but didn't move.

She didn't need even a moment of thought to know what was going on.
