Of course, Sheva, who was on the other side of the world, didn't know what Arfan thought about him. However, the boy had already checked the Internet today, and he found out that the clip containing his interaction with Anna had gone viral back home.
Well, it wasn't just him who saw that, as Anna and Medina were also next to him. Right now, there was an awkward silence among them all, with Sheva squirming uncomfortably while Anna blushing furiously under the sharp scrutiny of Medina.
"So, are you done acting lovey-dovey and feeding us all dog food here?' The woman asked sarcastically.
Sheva choked instantly, while Anna could only bow her head deeper to hide how red her face had turned. Unfortunately, in panic, Sheva said the stupidest thing that he could've done here. "Sister, you cannot just vent out your frustration on us! We are not responsible for your result, you know?!"
"Say that again?!" Medina turned around and glared at him sharply, and that was when Sheva knew he fucked up big time.
"No, nothing, Sister!" Sheva shook his head frantically. He was sweating like a bullet right now, trying his best to avoid her gaze. "Anyway, here, vegan pho. This is what you are ordering, right? Do you want more spring rolls? What about the drink? Coffee? Tea?" Sheva asked rapidly in an attempt to change the topic here.
Medina could only snort amusedly as she saw the boy in front of her crumbling like wet paper. Oh, she herself was not in a bad mood or offended by something. Despite the impression she gave that she was an aloof woman, it was pretty easy to get along with Medina. It was just that her expression sometimes was pretty hard to read, and anyone who didn't know her would only fear the woman for her quiet treatment. As for having a bad mood for a draw result…
Well, she wasn't a rookie anymore.
Medina knew she couldn't win all the games in the world, and it was important to strategize what kind of game she should try to aim for a win, and what kind of game she had to be satisfied with a draw, and the game in the second round was definitely the latter case. It was a reasonable choice, as against a 2600-rated player, any sane player would go for her approach here. Yeah, Medina called out Sheva and Anna for not being sane here, as they went berserk in their second game.
Well, in the end, since they got the victories, Medina had to give them a hat off for their guts. It might stink to be the only one who didn't get a win here, but the woman knew that she would be the one mocking them two if they failed to win with their insanely aggressive approach.
Still, it was funny to see a boy who always looked confident like Sheva, to be wilted under her gaze like this. Of course, she could call it a day and just say that she was alright, but this was the most fun Medina had in a long time, so there was no way she would admit her mood out loud.
"Anyway, let's move on and think about the game tomorrow." Medina shook her head, trying to change the topic here. Since she still had the stone-cold expression, both teenagers were still pretty much afraid of her and just let her do whatever she wanted. "So, the pairing for the third round should be out already, right? Wanna check it out together?"
Both Sheva and Anna stared at each other hesitantly. However, since Medina didn't want to mention the second round anymore, they could only nod in agreement and took out their phone to check the tournament's website.
Aryan Chopra (2611) – (2309) Adrian Sheva
Sheva just nodded silently while he read the name of his next opponent, inwardly recalling any information he got about the Indian GM. Unfortunately, Aryan Chopra was just another 2600-rated player that didn't stand out that much in the tournament, and since this Biel Tournament had quite a lot of high-rated players, noticing Aryan Chopra among them was like trying to find a needle in the middle of a haystack; an impossible task to do.
Sheva scrolled down his phone again, and a few lines below him, the boy found out Anna's name quickly.
Anna Marisa (2335) – (2533) Iniyan P
Well, this was more difficult for him. Sheva had to admit that he came here with an arrogance as huge as a mountain, only having his eyes on the players whose rating was above 2600. He didn't even set his eyes on the ordinary GM like Iniyan Pa at all!
'Yeah, this arrogance will either kill me or just make me stronger.' Sheva muttered to himself. The next second, though, the boy suddenly felt the air around him get colder, and when he turned around, Sheva had to snap his head away as quickly as possible, wanting to avoid the cold gaze from Medina. He didn't know what triggered her negative emotion again, but whatever it was, he didn't want to get near it.
"Um… Sister Medina, what is going on?" Anna, the brave warrior she was, didn't have any reservations about her life and asked cautiously.
In return, though, the woman just showed her phone to the two curious teenagers, and once Sheva read the content of it, he was stunned immediately. Anna herself wasn't much better here, as the girl let out a small gasp before covering her mouth quickly, then glancing at Medina cautiously.
"Yeah, I am screwed here." Medina smiled bitterly, not even hiding her emotion here. "Honestly, I don't know what did I do to deserve this bullshit. Not only did I not know how he could slip against a mere 2500-rated player, but how am I so unlucky to get paired against him?"
Yeah, the source of her despair was her opponent in the next round, as the three of them could read Medina's pairing clearly.
