Relic Obtained
============================
In fact, the battle itself had no real twists or turns. A high-level peak mecha was clearly outmatched when facing trusted aides who were also high-level.
Actually, if it wanted to escape, the two of them wouldn't have been able to stop it.
However, their purpose from the beginning wasn't to accomplish anything—just to make a scene and then die, that was all.
If Jiang Cheng had changed anything, it was merely to change the location of their chaos, making the scale even larger, nothing more.
"Boom!"
Another massive cannon blast roared toward the mecha.
The mecha initially intended to dodge, and the jets on its back flared hard with thrust.
But the mechanic in the air just smiled, pinching the void with a gesture.
Midair, the shell suddenly exploded, and the mecha had no way to escape the immense blast radius, taking a direct hit to the back and getting blasted backward by the shockwave.
"Bang! Zzzt, zzzt—"
With the explosion's impact, two arcs of electricity snaked from the jet device, which was now completely wrecked.
Seeing that the enemy's most crucial mobility component had been destroyed, turning it into a sitting target, the two mechanics grinned and pressed the attack.
Finding himself without space to retreat or dodge any further, the mecha deployed all of its own weapons.
From the palms, arms, legs, chest, and even the top of the head, gun barrels or cannon muzzles suddenly protruded.
"Not good!"
The two mechanics in the air lost their composure in an instant.
"He's going to destroy the entire association! Stop him!" the leading mechanic shouted.
Although only the two of them could possibly stop the mecha at this moment, it wasn't clear why he shouted so loudly.
Nevertheless, his warning let Lyle know what the mecha intended to do.
Lyle's expression changed and he was about to rush forward to block that massive mecha.
But before he could make a move, a fair little hand pressed down on him.
Turning his head, he saw it was Jiang Cheng who was holding him back.
"Jiang Cheng, what are you doing?"
Lyle frowned.
"Even if not to protect the remaining people in the building, you should at least let me go protect the relic we need, right?"
"Of course,"
Jiang Cheng replied with a cheerful smile.
"But do you really think an organization that manages such a huge area would be that easy to blow up?"
Hearing this, Lyle froze, suddenly realizing.
So concerned about the relic he needed for his trial, he had momentarily failed to consider this aspect.
Perhaps deep inside, he still worried that if he didn't complete his trial exactly as foretold, he would never find those he sought.
Here, Lyle stopped, but the fight on the other side didn't pause just because someone halted.
Amid roaring gunfire, every cannon barrel on the mecha unleashed a massive storm of fire, bombarding the surrounding buildings.
"Boom!"
With an enormous explosion, the association's two tall towers withstood the attack, not collapsing even under the barrage.
The reason for this was the mystical formation engraved upon the buildings.
Magical patterns and traces emerged across the entire surface, forming a massive array upon which faint gears seemed to turn.
The waves of cannon fire battering against the barrier formed by the array didn't cause much stir.
Thus, the artillery hammered down relentlessly, but the seemingly fragile formation still couldn't be easily destroyed.
By now, the two mechanics, briefly stunned before, had charged in.
A crimson glow burst from the exoskeleton armor on their arms, and immense power drove them to bring down their chainsaw swords with tremendous force.
The mecha remained silent, ceasing its attacks and looking at the approaching mechanics.
For reasons unknown, a chill rose up in the hearts of the two mechanics.
Ever since becoming advanced mechanics—trusted aides to the association president—they hadn't felt this sensation in a long time.
"Not good—!"
As one mechanic shouted again, the mecha cast a final calm glance into the distance.
"Boom!"
The entire mecha blew itself apart, immense force scattering huge chunks of steel in all directions.
The two mechanics who had just charged in were skewered like candied fruit on sticks by the shower of enormous steel plates, pinned to the ground.
The massive self-detonation left a web of cracks crawling across the protective barrier.
Dying, the two mechanics cast one last look at the shield.
Thankfully—it was still intact, not completely destroyed. Otherwise, their families would be in danger.
"Ping!"
A light, crisp sound drew their fading consciousness to its origin.
A white-haired girl in a nun's habit stood there, lips curled in a wicked smile, and brought a magically charged fingertip down on the protective barrier.
"Crack!"
The barrier shattered on cue, not a trace of magic remaining.
Their final thought before death—they finally understood why everyone in the city said this generation's Saintess was the most wicked.
Looking at her now, she truly lived up to her reputation.
Honestly, even in death, she gave them no peace.
"Ha,"
Jiang Cheng laughed as she drew her finger back, a drop of blood—brought forth by divine magic—rolling down her fingertip.
"Finally done."
She shrugged. With that barrier gone, many of her plans would henceforth be easier to accomplish.
For example, right now, searching for the relic that led to the Spirit Realm with Lyle.
With this in mind, Jiang Cheng strode into the Mechanist Association.
Lyle looked at the devastation around him, then at Jiang Cheng striding into the association building without a care, and sighed before following after her.
After winding through the place behind Jiang Cheng, the two finally reached their destination.
Seeing the sign posted above the door, Lyle's pupils shrank.
The sign above the door clearly read: "Association President's Office."
"What are you afraid of?"
Jiang Cheng chuckled at Lyle's reaction and walked in.
In front of Lyle, he watched as Jiang Cheng, as if she had done this hundreds of times before, quickly unlocked the code lock on the drawer.
She got it right the first time, using neither technology nor magic—just calmly entering the code.
She knows even these kinds of things? As expected, there's still so much she's hiding from me.
Thinking this, Lyle sighed.
Opening the drawer, there was a small box right in the center.
The box was not large, but exquisitely crafted. Jiang Cheng took out the box and inspected its contents.
Inside was a crystal-clear bead, rose-pink, with swirling smoky clouds suspended within—truly beautiful.
"Mmm~ That's exactly what I'm looking for,"
Jiang Cheng smiled, then grabbed Lyle and spun to race out of the building.
Seriously, even if their identities weren't at odds with the Mechanist Association, it would be far too suspicious for them to suddenly appear right where the alarm just went off.
"Where are we going?"
Running along at Jiang Cheng's side, Lyle asked.
"Of course to find our friend Ferran, since we've perfectly completed the mission,"
Jiang Cheng replied with a grin.
