Damn, Mecha!
==============================
As the two of them drew closer to the spot where Lyle had sensed something was off,
Even Jiang Cheng could feel a trace of danger—a faint chill seemed to come from nowhere.
Although Jiang Cheng was not the kind of class that was specialized in raising her own stats and therefore could not sense danger from as far away as Lyle, she was at least a super-tier professional.
Compared to ordinary adventurers who could not perceive an approaching crisis at all, it was still quite easy for her to sense that something was wrong.
In front of them was a dense forest that seemed no different from any other place.
The Hunting Tournament was held within a sectioned-off forest where many corrupted monsters were roaming wild.
So on the surface, this looked like just another small woodland.
If there was anything different about this place, it was that at the center of the forest, there was a small pond.
The pond was not large, but its depth seemed considerable; at a glance, the water was remarkably clear, yet the bottom was completely invisible.
Standing quietly at the edge of the pond, Jiang Cheng crouched down and toyed with a small pebble at the lakeside.
In this desolate forest, the environment was certainly far better than the dust-filled city.
Even the pebbles looked clean and smooth, possessing a certain roundness.
............
Elsewhere, an old man watching the Hunting Tournament let out a cold snort at Jiang Cheng's actions.
"What does she think this is? Has she really come for a date at the Hunting Tournament? And she's playing with water now?"
"Not a trace of adventure spirit!"
Next to him, the assistant observed the old man's demeanor and spoke cautiously,
"But, president, those two are currently the highest-ranked contestants in the tournament."
"Hmph!"
The president snorted, saying nothing more.
Suddenly, someone rushed in, panting and calling out to the president,
"Pres—President!"
"What is it!"
The president frowned, his face stern as he reprimanded,
"So flustered, you can't even keep the composure of a mechanic. What's happened?"
"Pres—President," the newcomer finally caught his breath and said,
"The association headquarters has suddenly sounded an alarm; it's been determined that a forbidden zone has been breached."
"What?!!!"
The president slammed the desk with a bang and stood up urgently.
"Hurry! Which forbidden zone? Take me there now! Damn it, I have to find which damned bastard dared to invade my Mechanist Association!"
But just as he stood up, on the live broadcast screens behind him, scarlet exclamation marks and alarms suddenly flashed up.
"Alert, alert. The Hunting Tournament signal has been lost. Attempting to reconnect... Attempt failed."
"Damn!"
The president slammed the table again.
"What the hell happened?!"
"Pull up the last footage before the signal was lost—scan it carefully," the president said, looking at the screen.
"Reporting, president," after a short while, a line of text appeared on the screen.
"Before the system was disconnected, an unknown powerful extraordinary presence was detected."
"Damn it—it's those guys again," the president's face darkened.
"You few, go back to the headquarters and check which forbidden zone was breached."
The president casually pointed at several trusted aides, then turned to look at the hunting grounds.
"The rest, come with me—I want to see just how long they can cause trouble!"
............
Jiang Cheng noticed the red glow emerging from below the lake, and a smile curved her lips.
She stood up, flicked her hand, and threw the pebble in her hand across the water as if skipping a stone.
Bang! As the pebble flew off at an angle, a gigantic splash shot up; nearly all the water in the lake was stirred up and scattered onto the shore.
"Your strength..."
Lyle was a bit surprised—since when had Jiang Cheng become so strong?
"Divine arts,"
Jiang Cheng shrugged, revealing her recently regenerated, shifting arm.
"Divine arts are omnipotent, you know."
"You..."
Lyle seemed like he wanted to say something, perhaps questioning why Jiang Cheng would use such a painful divine art for such a trivial thing—
But in the end, he did not speak.
Turning away, Jiang Cheng calmly looked at the now-dry lakebed.
Without the previously unfathomable water as a cover, the object below, gleaming with a red light, was revealed:It was a gigantic Mecha with a single scarlet-glowing eye!
Knowing that the live broadcast had been cut off, Jiang Cheng could not be bothered to keep up the act and casually strolled forward.
As she walked, her waterfall-like black hair began to flow and gradually transformed back into its original gray-and-white hue.
Her pale golden eyes looked coldly at the mech below. Jiang Cheng scoffed,
"So, infighting? Since when did the Black Gloves of the gods start sabotaging the activities of their loyal followers?"
The mech did not respond, merely standing silently at the bottom of the lake, its eye flickering with red light.
Rumble—more noises erupted, and from the warped space at the lake's bottom, several more Mechas strode out.
All of these mechs stood eight or nine meters tall; their massive forms exuded an intimidating pressure simply by standing there.
"Ha, what's wrong, cat got your tongue? Did you sense my presence and get scared? Or did you recognize me?"
Jiang Cheng smiled cheerily.
"Looks like it's the former. I forgot you're no longer human."
Though Jiang Cheng knew both reasons were likely, she still taunted them a bit and raised her hand.
In her hand, a powerful energy began to gather, as if she could unleash a tremendous attack at any moment.
"Two choices,"
Jiang Cheng said flatly, and her face bore no trace of her earlier smile, only a cold and threatening indifference.
"First, you can work for me—oh, wait, I forgot you're not human anymore. Be my dogs, do as I command for my plans."
Jiang Cheng's words remained flat and emotionless.
"Second, die here. Your gods will not be paying attention."
The mechas said nothing. After a long pause, they all dropped to one knee.
"Ha! A wise choice,"
Jiang Cheng laughed softly, the gathered menace in her hand dissipating.
"In my hands, even if you still die as your plan dictates, I can at least guarantee the fire you ignite with your own bodies will burn much brighter."
After a long time, the mech at the front knelt on one knee once more, and a sticky, hoarse, and disgusting voice issued out:"Thank you... Your Holiness... the Saintess."
"Haha!"
Jiang Cheng laughed so hard she was almost swaying, "It's only so your deaths might have a bit more value."
With that, Jiang Cheng turned to Lyle.
"You see, he even thanked us."
Lyle was silent for a long while before finally saying, "Don't go too far."
"Alright, alright~"
Jiang Cheng shrugged.
"But I am surprised you didn't stop me this time."
"They..."
Lyle said seriously, "don't have a human aura."
"You're not protecting them just because they lack a human aura?"
Jiang Cheng rolled her eyes.
"No,"
Lyle said a bit urgently, "it's just that they also don't have a trace of goodness about them."
"Alright, alright,"
Jiang Cheng shrugged, "your ability really is something else."
She turned to look at the Mechas.
"Alright, here's your first chance to die."
"You, send two of your group—one go make trouble for the president, another go make trouble at headquarters."
As she spoke, Jiang Cheng narrowed her eyes—Ferran, that particular pawn, still could not die in such a place.
