Age of Ascension: Forging an Immortal Realm from Nothing

chapter 67 - Heavenly Thunder! Heed My Command! (1/4)

…[Rotting Swamp Great-Raven]Race: Swamp Behemoth/VoidLevel: 15Talent: ???Bloodline: ???…As usual, the boss's full stats were hidden behind a bunch of annoying question marks. But a Level 15 boss was a Level 15 boss. Translation: it was gonna be a pain in the ass. The golden rule of this whole "newbie trial" nightmare was that every day, the monsters got an upgrade. And considering the giant salamander bastard he fought yesterday, today's boss was probably going to be extra spicy. And yet…The absolute funniest fucking thing was watching this colossal, terrifying bird get utterly flummoxed by a cloud of weaponized farts. It tumbled through the air, flapping its rotten wings like a pigeon that had just flown into a window, before finally getting its bearings."Pfffft—!" "Pfffft—!"A chorus line of stone butts aimed for the sky and let 'er rip. And since the statues' asses were pointed up, their faces—lovingly sculpted in Wu Chi's own image, complete with an expression of sublime, gassy relief—were pointed right at his troops. The Great Qin Vanguards' faces remained as stoic as stone. The new cultivator girls looked like they were about to explode from trying to hold in their laughter, their cheeks puffed out and beet red. Lin Daiyu and Qin Keqing, who had sadly grown accustomed to this nonsense, just gave him a look that perfectly communicated, "Really, dude?"Wu Chi: "…"He was done. So done. Let them judge."Hey, it's about functionality, not aesthetics!" he yelled, probably convincing no one. "Just watch the sky!"The Great-Raven, now surrounded by a protective aura of black fire (presumably to keep the farts out), let out an enraged screech and dive-bombed them. Wu Chi raised a hand."Light 'em up!"BOOM! ZAP! DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA!The sky filled with a beautiful symphony of explosions, lightning, and bullets. The raven, who clearly had more balls than brains, didn't even try to dodge. It just face-tanked the entire barrage, its rotting flesh getting peppered with holes. But it didn't seem to notice or care. It opened its beak to unleash a gout of black fire.At that exact moment, a golden firebird shot out of the [Tower of Fiery Judgment] and head-butted the raven like a feathered missile. Below, the Vanguards unleashed a volley of crossbow bolts, and the cultivator girls, looking super focused, double-tapped their [Wrathful Moon Seals]. The air became a solid wall of multicolored, explode-y death. When the smoke cleared, the Great-Raven was still there, looking like a piece of swiss cheese that had been set on fire, but it was otherwise fine."Swamp creatures…" Wu Chi grumbled. He remembered reading something about them being weirdly hard to kill with normal attacks."Daiyu! Keqing! Your turn to take out the trash!"The two heroes nodded. Lin Daiyu leaped into the air, sword ready, while Qin Keqing floated up, looking like an avenging angel."Six Ding, Six Jia, you're up! Time to do the thunder thing!" she yelled, her voice echoing."HEED MY COMMAND!"She pointed at the bird. And then—CRACK-A-BOOM!A fat, juicy bolt of purple lightning fell out of the sky and zapped the Great-Raven right in its ugly face. The bird, who had been shrugging everything off like a champ, suddenly let out a shriek that sounded suspiciously like "YEEEOOOWCH!"Apparently, divine thunder was its personal kryptonite. It tried to spit a fireball in retaliation, but then—ZAP! A second bolt. Then the third. And the «N.o.v.e.l.i.g.h.t» fourth, fifth, and sixth, a rapid-fire celestial beatdown that turned the sky into a rave. The final bolt was a monster, punching a hole straight through the bird's torso. The spell was a huge mana drain. A lesser spellcaster would've been tapped out, but Qin Keqing, being a total badass, was just a little pale. Meanwhile, Lin Daiyu zipped through the air, casually sliced the raven's pity-fireball in half, and closed in on the smoking, twitching, and probably very regretful bird.
