Grand Voyage: I Start My Journey With A Ghost Ship!

chapter 71

Yang Yi followed the trail of bloody footprints until he reached the massive ship. The prints disappeared about two meters from the hull.In front of him wasn’t a broken deck or open cabin, but the slanted underside of the ship’s hull.“Did it climb up somehow…?” Yang Yi guessed. He stepped back a few paces, removed his blindfold, and tried to use the Third Eye to see what was inside the ship. One of the windows was particularly strange—it wasn’t covered by weeds or vines, as if it had been deliberately cleaned.Just then, Yang Yi caught a flicker of movement in his left peripheral vision—a shadow rushing straight toward him.It moved almost soundlessly, feet brushing the grass without a whisper. By the time an ordinary person would’ve heard it, it would already be too late to dodge. But Yang Yi was special—his Third Eye captured the shadow’s movement. He immediately spun around, aimed, and pulled the trigger of his flintlock.Click! The gun misfired.Without hesitation, Yang Yi threw a hand axe.It was a low-grade throwing weapon he’d found earlier—nothing fancy, but light and practical. The flying axe struck true, hitting the shadow’s knee with a crisp clang. But it did little damage—the axe bounced off the creature’s bristle-like fur, unable to cut through. The shadow didn’t even falter; instead, it accelerated, closing in fast. Its appearance was horrifying—its body was covered in wounds, pierced with arrows, gunshot holes, and deep gashes; skin peeled back to reveal raw flesh, and a broken spear jutted from its back. The dark gray fur left no doubt—this was the missing werewolf. And the fact that it could still move despite such injuries wasn’t because of vitality…but because it no longer needed life. The wounds were festering, crawling with maggots, and stank of decay. This… was a moving corpse.[Abnormal entity detected. Sanity -5]Yang Yi reacted instantly.Seeing the axe was useless, he switched weapons—to the Sea Serpent’s Fang and his iron-plated wooden shield. There was no chance of escaping something this fast.So he’d face it head-on—activate Sea Serpent’s Fang: Flame Jet!He didn’t use the flintlock’s cannon mode—he was saving that for the other monster that might be around.Calculating the distance, Yang Yi triggered the skill. A fan-shaped burst of flame erupted from the short sword.Like a jet of burning fuel, the flames engulfed everything within a three-meter radius and a 110-degree arc—including the werewolf. Its bristle-like fur, though resistant to blades, couldn’t withstand the heat—it ignited instantly, turning the creature into a ball of fire. But it didn’t flinch, didn’t feel pain—its claws came crashing down.Crack!Splinters flew. The iron-plated shield shattered completely under the blow. The impact flung Yang Yi backward into the ship’s hull; his left arm went numb, losing all sensation.Even his sleeve was torn open, revealing chainmail underneath.Without that armor, he’d have been shredded. Not far away, the werewolf—now a burning torch—was collapsing.Though it feared no pain or fire, the flames still ate into its body, charring the flesh and filling the air with the stench of burnt meat.Yang Yi seized the moment, switched to his flintlock, and fired again. The shot hit dead-on—right through its knee. With no fur left to protect it, the joint shattered, and the creature stumbled, crashing to the ground.Yang Yi didn’t stop. He hurled the Sea Serpent’s Fang like a spear—it pierced the werewolf’s left eye, sinking up to the hilt.Heat surged through the blade, cooking the creature’s brain. It went rigid, then fell completely still.Yang ◈ Nоvеlіgһт ◈ (Continue reading) Yi didn’t celebrate. Instead, he raised his Third Eye again, scanning the surroundings before ducking into a nearby grove. After several tense seconds, when the massive ship remained silent, he put his blindfold back on.By then, the werewolf’s body was completely charred, smoke curling up from it as it turned to ash.The earlier flames had spread to the nearby grass.Fortunately, the soil was damp and there were no trees nearby—otherwise, the whole island might’ve caught fire.Yang Yi approached the scorched corpse, drew a long-handled axe from his stomach pouch, and swung at the werewolf’s neck.Clang! The first strike rang out like metal on metal—its bones were unbelievably hard.He gritted his teeth and struck three more times before finally severing the blackened head. After smothering the flames with soil and letting it cool, Yang Yi retrieved his short sword—and spotted a silver bullet lodged between the werewolf’s teeth.“...White Rose?”The sight of it immediately reminded him of the white revolver he’d once seen, said to fire silver bullets that inhibited regeneration and banished evil.He also gained the creature’s data:[Name: Gray Werewolf (Corpse Mutation)][Description: A gray werewolf corpse reanimated through necromancy. Covered in hardened dark-gray fur. Attacks all living beings except its summoner. Can be used in the Monster Capsule Machine.]“Corpse mutation… summoner.”Yang Yi caught the key words. That meant something out there had used necromancy to revive this werewolf. There had to be another enemy. He stored the still-steaming, hideous wolf head in his stomach pouch—planning to use it later in the capsule machine. It was too burnt for dissection anyway, and he wasn’t about to tell Suna—she’d just scold him for not leaving a complete corpse. As for the body—it was nearly reduced to ash.Yang Yi didn’t rush to board the ship yet. He stayed hidden, drank a bottle of holy water, and recovered his condition.Only after the fire died down did he emerge again.Strangely, there was still no movement from the massive ship. That likely meant the other enemy wasn’t inside. He checked the time—four hours until nightfall. Enough. Two hours to explore, two hours to return—plenty of time. His condition was decent too. After drinking holy water, his stamina had recovered a bit, HP over 85%.Except for the spent Sea Serpent’s Fang skill, his resources were mostly intact.Decision made, Yang Yi approached the ship and used his spiderweb gloves to climb aboard. He aimed for a good entry point—like that deliberately cleaned window.A few minutes later, he reached it. He tossed a long-legged sardine inside first—no reaction. Then he leaned closer to look.“...Something’s off.”The ship had clearly suffered a wreck before drifting here. The interior should’ve been in total disarray. But this room—there were chairs and tables neatly arranged, shelves still standing, only shifted sideways because the floor had become a wall.A thick layer of dust covered everything. That suggested survivors might once have lived aboard when it first washed ashore. He didn’t jump in right away. Instead, he switched to his left-eye view. The interior was dim—he needed the Third Eye to see clearly. Then he saw them—an entire row of jars.Glass jars.Yang Yi recognized them instantly; he’d seen plenty like that in Suna’s lab.Inside each jar floated a human head—five in total, lined up neatly on a freshly cleaned shelf.
