The roar of the shadow wyrm echoed through Zarpha, shaking the foundations of the city. Its massive body coiled and lashed, crushing anything in its path.
Blackened scales glimmered with shadow energy, and its glowing eyes were like molten orbs, casting an eerie light over the battlefield.
Adrian stood on the wall, his fiery chains sparking with defiance. "We take it down now, or the city is lost!" he shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos.
With stern but resolute expressions, the goddesses gathered around him. The wyrm's roar was met with the fierce battle cries of Zarpha's defenders, though fear lingered in their voices.
"Let's do this," Medea replied, her dark flames growing brighter.
"We've got this," Lilith added, her whip unfurling.
Hera, atop Solis, threw her spear. It spun in the air, its golden glow burning through the shadows.
"Go!"
Hestia and Medea were the first to strike. Twin infernos erupted from their hands—Medea's destructive black flames and Hestia's brilliant blue fire. The two streams of fire spiraled together, slamming into the wyrm's flanks with explosive force.
The flames licked against its enchanted scales but failed to breach them.
The wyrm contorted, its form rippling like a tidal wave, and unleashed a devastating tailswing. The blow scattered soldiers and sent debris flying as the walls groaned under the strain.
"It's resisting even our strongest flames!" Medea hissed, frustration flashing in her crimson eyes.
"We'll keep trying!" Hestia replied, her blue flames reigniting with renewed intensity.
On the wyrm's opposite flank, Lilith leapt into action.
Her crimson whip cracked through the air, coiling around the wyrm's massive tail. With a fierce pull, she anchored the creature, her heels digging into the stone of the wall.
"Hold still, you overgrown worm!" she growled, her arms straining as she tried to restrain the beast.
Abyss seized the moment.
Her violet blade glinted in the dim light as she darted beneath the wyrm's thrashing tail. She slid along the ground with inhuman speed, aiming for its vulnerable underbelly.
Her blade struck true, piercing between the gaps in its scales. The wyrm roared in pain, its massive body writhing as Abyss drove her blade deeper. Black ichor oozed from the wound, steaming as it hit the ground.
"Got it!" Abyss shouted triumphantly
But the wyrm was not yet defeated.
With a burst of strength, it pulled free from Lilith's whip, sending her stumbling backward. Its tail slammed into the wall, the impact shaking the structure.
Ava's shield buckled, her magic barely able to withstand the onslaught. "I can't hold it!" she cried out, her expression strained.
The wyrm unleashed a guttural hiss, and a thick, poisonous shadow mist erupted from its maw. The dark fog spread rapidly, enveloping the battlefield.
Soldiers and goddesses alike were forced to retreat, coughing as the noxious cloud burned their lungs.
"Fall back!" Adrian shouted, covering his mouth with his arm as he guided the goddesses to safety.
From the safety of a nearby battlement, Adrian surveyed the scene. The wyrm's tail lashed violently, sending chunks of stone and splintered wood into the air. The mist clung to the ground, a toxic barrier that made it nearly impossible to approach.
"We can't get close while that mist is there," Ava said, her voice muffled behind her golden shield. She stood protectively in front of a group of soldiers, deflecting the wyrm's attacks from afar.
Adrian's mind raced. He glanced at the wyrm's glowing eyes, their intensity dimming slightly as the beast thrashed in pain. That was it—the glowing eyes were the key.
"We blind it," Adrian said, his tone resolute. "If it can't see, it'll be vulnerable."
"And how exactly do we do that?" Hera asked, her golden spear ready. Solis circled above, screeching in agitation as the wyrm thrashed below.
Adrian turned to Ava and Eris. "Ava, I need you to block its sight with your light magic. Eris, find the right angle and strike with precision. If we can destroy its eyes, the others can finish it off."
Eris smirked, her emerald daggers glinting. "I like the sound of that."
"Everyone else, keep it distracted," Adrian commanded. "Medea, Hestia—focus on its flanks. Lilith, keep that tail pinned. Hera, coordinate the soldiers and keep them clear of the mist."
The goddesses nodded, their resolve steeling.
Ava raised her staff high, the golden crystal at its tip pulsing with radiant light. She conjured a series of glowing orbs that hovered in the air before hurtling toward the wyrm's face. The orbs exploded in bursts of brilliance, temporarily blinding the creature.
The wyrm let out an enraged roar, thrashing its head from side to side. The mist around it began to dissipate, and Eris seized the opportunity.
Darting through the battlefield with incredible speed, she leapt onto a nearby structure, scaling it in seconds. From her elevated position, she took aim at the wyrm's left eye.
With a flick of her wrist, her dagger sailed through the air, embedding itself into the glowing orb.
The wyrm howled in agony, its body convulsing as black ichor poured from the ruined eye. The beast's movements grew erratic, and it swung its massive head wildly, nearly toppling a section of the wall.
"Eris, now the other eye!" Adrian shouted.
Eris nodded, leaping to another vantage point. But before she could strike, the wyrm reared back, vomiting a torrent of poisonous liquid in her direction. Eris barely managed to evade, tumbling to the ground as the acidic substance dissolved the structure she had been standing on.
"Eris!" Ava shouted, her shield expanding to protect her fallen sister.
"I'm fine," Eris grunted, clutching her side as she stood. "But that thing's getting desperate."
As the wyrm thrashed, its massive tail struck Lilith's whip, snapping the enchanted weapon. The force of the blow sent Lilith sprawling, and the wyrm turned its attention back to the city.
At that moment, the Shadow Court's golem breached the wall.
The colossal figure loomed over the battlefield, its hulking form blotting out the moonlight. Each step shook the ground, and its glowing core pulsed ominously as it marched toward the city center.
Adrian's heart sank. "Damn it," he muttered. "Hera, take the troops and stop that golem! The rest of us will finish the wyrm."
Hera nodded, her golden spear glinting as she rallied the soldiers. "With me!" she shouted, leading a charge toward the advancing behemoth.
Adrian turned back to the wyrm, his fiery chains igniting once more. "We're ending this now!"
Medea and Hestia unleashed a combined blast of flames at the wyrm's side, forcing it to rear back in pain. Ava's golden shields shimmered, protecting the soldiers as they regrouped.
"Eris, finish the other eye!" Adrian commanded.
With a determined nod, Eris darted forward, her remaining dagger aimed for the wyrm's second eye. She leapt onto its head, plunging the blade into the glowing orb. The wyrm let out a deafening roar, its body collapsing as darkness poured from its ruined eyes.
"Now!" Adrian shouted.
Abyss, Medea, and Hestia combined their powers in a devastating final strike. Abyss's violet blade pierced the wyrm's underbelly, while Medea's black flames consumed its tail. Hestia's blue fire erupted from the beast's core, reducing it to smoldering ash.
The wyrm let out one final, mournful cry before its massive form collapsed, shaking the battlefield with the force of its death throes.
Adrian stood, breathing heavily, as the dust settled. "One down," he muttered. "Now the golem."
But as he turned toward the city, a horrifying sight greeted him. The golem had breached the inner wall and was advancing toward Zarpha's heart, its shadowy form towering over the panicked civilians
Adrian swore, his chains igniting. "Hera, stop that thing! Don't let it near the people!"
Hera and Solis charged the golem, her golden spear gleaming as she launched it toward the beast.
The golem swatted the weapon aside, its massive fist slamming into the griffin.
"Hera! Solis!" Adrian called as he watched them spiral in the air before gaining control.
"We're fine, Adrian," Hera called from above.
Returning his gaze to the golem, Adrian froze at the sight before him.
At its feet stood Queen Alannah, clad in light armor and wielding a sword. She confronted the monster head-on, her eyes glowing with determination.
"No," Adrian whispered, his blood running cold. He sprinted toward the breach, his fiery chains flaring as he called out, "Alannah, get back!"
But the queen didn't move. She raised her sword, her voice clear and strong as she shouted, "For Zarpha!"
The golem's massive fist descended toward her, and Adrian's heart froze as the scene unfolded before him.
Queen Alannah slashed at the golem's wrist, the blade slicing deep into its shadowy flesh. She thrust the weapon to its full length with an explosive burst of power.
"Alannah, no!"
The golem let out a loud roar, and the impact of the attack sent the queen flying. Her body crashed against a nearby wall, crumpling to the ground in a heap.
"No..."
